    After watching the episode of I Love Lucy about l’apache dance, I had to look it up. It makes so much more sense like this then how Fred described it

    I first saw, what we then called."Apache Dancers" on a TV variety show in the mid-50s, and had never forgotten it. It was danced to "Let Me Go, Lover". I probably remember it because my father bought the 45, recorded by Joan Weber, and my sister and I would dance our own version. Badly, but with great enthusiasm.

      I believe they were shocked, delighted and thinking if I did that I;d break every bone in my body. It takes much practice to do this dance to even keep from hurting themselves and.or each other. I think it is fantastic and humorous. Sandra LBradfield

    I read that the Apache started from a street fight outside a night club in Montmartre, and that the dance got its name indirectly from the night club. What I read did not however say the name of the night club. I would guess the night club was named L'Apache, but anyone know for sure? If it was, anyone know why it had that name?

    This upset me so much! Why? Because once this incredibly artistic beautifully performed insanely difficult piece of art head had come to an end by two superb acrobatic performers, all the snobbish crowd appreciation they could muster was a two or three second smattering of Applause with a sniggering of maybe another second or two of vocal cheer. Fuck them. I'd be on my feet for 2 minutes straight, applauding and cheering and and made whistling that I do that could pierce your freaking eardrums. Bravo bravo bravo. I know that not everyone at every performance of every true artistic show, has the capability to appreciate what they just viewed, but come on people what the fuck. That was downright shameful

    • @Treebard
      @Treebard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, and it took them half the dance to even appreciate it by laughing at the funny parts. They just stood there and it hardly seemed to register that they were watching extraordinary dancers doing incredible things.

    • @KeithOtisEdwards
      @KeithOtisEdwards 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It begins with the popular _Csárdás_ by violinist Vittorio Monti. It imitates Gypsy (Romani) music. Then, Brahms _Hungarian Dance No.5_ arranged for fellow and violin is used (it is also a copy of Romani music), but it returns to the _Csárdás_.
      The best recording of Brahms’ _Hungarian Dances_ is by Marat Bisengaliev on violin, on NAXOS CD 8553026. A budget record, but fine sound..

    What song are they dancing to?

    • @KeithOtisEdwards
      @KeithOtisEdwards 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They begin with the *Czárdás* by Vittorio Monti, an Italian violinist (1868-1922). Then,
      at 2:35 they switch to *Hungarian Dance* No. 5 popularized by Brahms.
      It's one of the most popular pieces by Brahms, but he didn't write it.
      He stole it from Gypsy musicians who played at a tavern in the Austrian hills where Brahms hiked.
      You can get a recording of _all_ the *Hungarian Dances* arranged by Brahms, but don't get the crappy orchestral versions
      (none of which were orchestrated by Brahms), instead get the version for solo violin and piano, arranged by Brahms' best friend, Joseph Joachim.
      The best recording of the complete Hungarian Dances is on NAXOS CD 8553026 with Marat Bisengaliev on violin,
      but stupid Amazon has it listed under the name of the pianist, John Lenehan.
      The CD costs
