I just followed your suggestion and tried to lookup my own ip. Shodan's reply: Error: No information available for that IP. Despite the fact that i have exposed services.....

Linux Terminal: ifconfig

Scott Reynolds - if they are behind a home router, that will only give them a Private Class A, B, or C IP address, similar to 192.168.?.? etc..
If it a company with a routable block of IP addresses, then yes, that will give them an IP address that will work with Shodan.
