    I was literally wondering "what is that pretty plant to the right?" and your label popped up! Thank you for that!

    Thank you for this great video - I saved some corms last winter but lost some, too. Maybe next year with your tips I'll have better results.
    One thing you didn't mention - when you cut off those big beautiful leaves, they'll last a week or more in a vase - a big vase - inside. Put them in a sunny room if you can. It's a great way to enjoy them for a little longer.

      I so wish I had a room sunny enough to do that!!

    Hello sir! I got a superb colocasia esculenta as a gift plant, and I suspected it could be overwintered (I'm in region 5b). I'm glad I came across your video, which confirmed my hunch about the Colocasia rooting system. Thanks for this step-by-step video! I immediately subbed after watching it. I'll sure watch some more in the future. Your gardening tips will certainly come in handy ... for those "green thumbs " of mine never could be green enough, if you ask me !

    My black ripple colocasia is my baby lol, I’m in zone 7.5 and have an uncle who lives nearby who just cuts his back for winter but I’m thinking I will do this. It has grown some “side tubers” so I’ll want to separate them anyway and I live on a hill w more wind than his deal w although I’m not sure how much the wind would effect the corms underground… I’ve been teeter tottering on what to do for several weeks now, think this might be the safest route?

    I need to wear gloves when I cut leaves and roots of elephant ear plants because the juice makes my hands BURN! I can not believe that you did that without gloves! I am in zone eight and leave mine in the ground - happy about that. Thank you for your videos!

      Interesting. Quite a few garden plants bother some people. I have yet to find one that does except poison ivy and stink nettles

    Thanks for this video! If I accidentally cut into a corm is it ruined and will not overwinter?Thanks in advance for any info!

      If it is just a cut, keep it dry and it should be fine. If cut in half, it may not make it.

    Is this the same method you use for Alocasia Bulbs?

    which USDA plant Zone do you live in? Or what state?

  • @christineskyring7041
    @christineskyring7041 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you doing this to save space in your house? These plants do fine if you just pot them and bring them indoors.

      I garden 9 months of the year - then rest over winter. Also, I don't have a lot of good windows for light.

    I just looked on Google Images and there are photos of both upward facing and downward facing leaves, so what you flashed across the screen isn't really true.

    • @Gardenfundamentals1
      @Gardenfundamentals1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it is true - maybe the photos were mislabeled. Lots of people interchange the names. But if you find a cultivar that does not match the rule - let me know.

    Thank you so much for the video. A question, do these plants require dormancy in the same way deciduous trees do, does it benefit them, or is it just a way of keeping them overwinter?

    • @Gardenfundamentals1
      @Gardenfundamentals1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here it is just a way of keeping them over winter. They naturally grow in warm climates so I doubt they get much of a dormancy - but not sure.
