Yes! She started her legendary career on Broadway & became a huge star there before going on to conquer all other platforms. She's an EGOT winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) meaning she's won EVERY major award from all the major mediums - TV, music, movies, Broadway! This song is from an album of Broadway songs from the 80s, & was one of the most succesful albums that year, both commercially & critically. It was #1 on the album charts & won several Grammys.

She’s a Broadway, Movie, Pop. Superstar! She won all the awards an artist dream of. She’s a singer, actress, director, songwriter winning Grammy’s, Golden Globe, Oscar’s two time best actress. ALL, Tony’s, Sir Olivier. She’s the biggest star - entertainers entertainer, command the highest grossing concert of all time for a woman, you can check it out. Idolized by Actors and actresses in Hollywood. She’s a living legend, and an icon. Box office Queen. I’ve seen her live in concert twice. And her voice is immaculate. Hands down. I’m young but I lover her as an actress, as a singer and as a performer. The greatest star in her generation. Excellence is what Barbra can give as a talent. Unparalleled!

You are right. Barbra came from the theatre. She only did 2 broadway shows, both were hits, before she transitioned to movies. Barbra achieved every major award in show business by the time she was 27.

I have to say I just love watching your reaction to Barbra when you listen to her sing. I am a 60 year old white man who has loved her my whole life and to see young men of color just now finding out who she is how amazing her voice was brings me much joy. If you want to hear an incredible song she did in 1970 I believe find the song Since I Fell For You. This will blow your mind. Thank you, I’m glad I came across your videos. Be blessed

With Barbara Streisand singing Memory it might well be the most beautiful or greatest song ever sung by one of the greatest singer's ever. For me there have and are some great singers. I agree with you young man no one can match this voice and it is the voice that is the judge. A voice that is like no-other

She starred in one of the biggest Broadway musical hits of the 60's... "Funny Girl". Which is also a movie starring her... rated as one of the greatest movie musicals ever. She had sold out tours all the way through the 80s, her own television specials in the '60s that showcased her amazing talent. She is one of the most acclaimed singers of the past 50 years. A living legend. The Fockers stuff is just something she was talked into doing in her retirement. It's nothing compared to the *extraordinary* career she's had singing. Check out "The Way We Were" by her. Which btw, was also a movie starring her in the '70s with Robert Redford.

She started on Broadway with a small number called „Miss Marmelstein“ from the musical „I can get it for you Wholesale“ at age 19 and she stopped the show! After that she got her own musical named „Funny Girl“ which was a huge success and you should really watch the movie „Funny Girl“ from 1968 - you will enjoy it very much.
She never returned to the theater stage because she does not like doing the same stuff the same way every night. In addition she has major stage fright. But nevertheless, you are right: she IS Broadway ❤️

Streisand is considered one of the greatest singers of all time and one of the biggest stars of all time. She started on broadway in the early 60s. She was nominated for a Tony but didn’t win. She won an Oscar for best leading actress in 1968 for her first movie. She received Emmies for a series of specials she did in the 1960s. She’s one of the best selling singers of all time and has number one albums every decade since the 1960s. And she’s won a bunch of Grammies. She’s one of the first women to direct, act and produce. Streisand paved the way for women like Madonna, Gaga, Swift, Beyoncé etc who called their own shots and blazed their own trails. Next, try Sarah Vaughan singing Maria. Her voice is astounding.

Without a doubt, there have been a lot of good singers in the world. Perhaps too many to mention. And then there is Barbra Streisand. So good a singer that she cannot be included in the list of good singers in the world. She truly is in a list of one. I mean, this lady at the peak of vocal power could not be matched by any one. And I do mean anyone. Her technique, control and vocal range have not been or will ever be matched by any non operatic singer in the world. Barbra Streisand is a talent the likes of which we'll never see again. Period. I feel blessed to have lived in her time. How lucky can you get!!!

Hearing her sign was the biggestof the reason to see the movie for me. In addition she is a great actress. She also wrote, produced, directed, and dang in a movie called Yentyl.

This song is from the Broadway musical "Cats" thus the Broadway flavor you're hearing. Barbra actually started out on Broadway with Funny Girl, which she later starred in on film. It catapulted her to the stratosphere of stardom and she's never looked back. You've only heard the very very tip of the iceberg as Barbra has been at the top of her game through the last 60 years, being the only singer to achieve a #1 album in every decade. You will be blown away if you really get into her discography and acting/directing achievements; a rare talent like her's maybe comes along once in a millennium.

"Memory" is from November 1981 and is from the Broadway show "Cats" which opened in 1982. This is an aria that proves once and for all that she is the finest female non-classical singer EVER (yes, more than Whitney, Aretha, et al). Yup. As good as she sings back in the day Barbra didn't like to do concerts because she had stage anxiety. Tickets to her concerts could run in the thousands in today's dollars. I couldn't afford it.
So one night the radio broadcast her signing live. I couldn't believe it. I pulled off the highway to listen. If Barbra signs, everything else stops.
Sadly she is getting older and her voice isn't as strong. I think she is in her 70s.

This song is from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats, which was on Broadway in USA, so you're very right.
It's a very heartbreaking song in it, probably THE defining sad song in it, sung by an elderly wizened old cat who felt left behind by the world in her old age.
It's my favourite musical, and has some amazing songs in it. You might like some of them too.
Two really good ones are "The Rum Tum Tugger" and "Macavity"

She`s done all kinds of music, starting from jazz , through pop , disco and soul... she has duets with Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, Celine Dion to name but a few. Her acting career spans the 60`s, 70`s etc, up to The Fokkers and she is one of the highest selling female singers of all time, considered by most other singers to be amongst the best . She began as an actress who used her voice to try and get acting jobs but is best known for her unique voice. You really should try to watch videos of her performing instead of these lyric videos because until you see her actually perform you don`t really realize what an amazing phenomenon she is.

From Broadway's genius composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. From the musical "Cats". The place where they have all those "showes" is called a theater
