Oil Painting: A Three-Color Demonstration with Helen Van Wyk
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 12 ส.ค. 2024
- Although Helen doesn't recommend painting using only three colors, she created this demonstration to show the power of the three primary colors. The painting is a Bermuda landscape in which Helen paints using only the three primary colors, plus black and white. The result is amazing.

Thank you for posting this. She is one of the best instructors of all time.
This woman changed my life. ❤ Thank you Helen. I hope you are painting in heaven.
I know what you mean. Bob Ross's videos gave me the courage to try oil painting but it was Helen Van Wyk that caused me to fall in love with it. I studied her, read her books & eventually learned enough to start teaching oil painting. I only gave it up due to health problems. Other than my family, it was the most enjoyable thing I was ever a part of.
please keep posting these
Wonderful to see Helen again.
She painted in the loose way that I enjoy. Thank you for years of really nice lessons.
I thought I had seen all of her tutorials but I had not seen this one before now.
Thank you for sharing it.😊
Thanks for watching!
I adore this woman 😘 I learned so much watching her back in the day! Wish I could buy her dvds if any are available?
If you have a connctuon with a public library or university with interlibrary loan capabilities, they could secure her videos for you on DVD. I watched many hours of her tutorials this way.
Surely, they meant painting instruction DVD's?
They are, but they're really expensive. You can get them from pbs or her website
Actually, our website helenvanwyk.com, has been out of her books and DVDs for many many years.
She is was the best brilliant teacher …. Please more and more of her 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! I wish I could have watched her back in the day
She had about 12 or 13 seasons of maybe 10 - 12 videos per season. They're probably still available somewhere. They used to be aired on PBS.
Большое спасибо. Светлая память Хелен. Талантливый художник и учитель
What a wonderful teacher only just found her now inspired me to get back painting Aileen from Ireland
Helen's lessons are timeless and inspiring. It’s great to hear that you’re getting back into painting. Here's wishing you many creative moments ahead.
She's such a delight. So knowledgeable and so personable.
Thanks for the comment and support, it is appreciated.
Thank you for posting her wonderful work!
I still love watching her paint, watched her way back in late 80-90s. ❤
Between Helen Van Wyck & Dianne Mize I have learned more than from a lot of my art professors in college.
They both are natural teachers and their talents are immense.
Helen you are a wonder and you are missed. 💜💜
I just think she is fantastic and van gogh would have seen her talent. They were both dutch and died too young. Heaven needed them. I bet they are up there directing art still
She was wonderful artist and teacher. Very grateful for the opportunity of wachting her now!

May I suggest another amazing painting teacher here, her name is Dianne Mize. Please check out her amazing teachings of not only painting but so much more about art.
She has mentioned Helen before in her teachings.
She’s a fountain of knowledge just like Helen.

😂😂😂 I was waiting for Stewart to pop out at any second😂
Meraviglioso ❤ complimenti
Thank you
You're welcome and thank you for supporting the channel. It is appreciated.
More cowbell!
What? Needs an explanation.

I wonder if someone behind the scenes took her big beautiful palette? She was a feminist and the men were mean to her back then. Anyway, I still love watching Helen paint. 🥰
During one of her videos she showed several of those palettes hanging like art. Each one looked as if she was about to start a painting. The paint colors were laid out in the order she always used but the paint was already dried. I suppose it was just another form of art. I know I'd love to have one of her pallets.😊
You can see the palette briefly on the counter behind her lying flat at the very beginning. I'm very curious about what you said as I had never heard that she experienced that before! How sad! Where did you hear that?
Hallo, Helen Van Wyk, please, say me, what is it for a foil in the beginning?
Sadly, Helen passed away in 1994 so she can't answer you directly. Helen used those foils to highlight this lesson's use of just 3 colors ( plus black and white ). The foils, when all applied, filter all color and as each is removed additional colors are exposed until all are removed to reveal full color. Hopefully someone knowledgeable concerning color proofs can give a detailed explanation.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
So I moved to Massachusetts! 😂😂😂
This says it was posted 8 hrs ago (suggesting that it's a recently made video). Helen VanWyk has been dead for years.
Yes, sadly you are correct. Helen died in 1994. We all miss her deeply.
@@HelenVanWyk Is it possible to buy DVDs of this series?
@@HelenVanWykThank you for posting. These videos are a discovery, and I have purchased some of Helen’s out of print art books as a result-very helpful. ❤
You don’t say…😲
Everyone knows Helen! Thankfully they’re sharing her teachings- Helen would want her teaching of painting to continue-
I have all of her books- each one is packed with info- as a land/seascape painter- learned a lot about color- composition- brushstrokes- overall process- from her books-
Helen was masterful with brush in hand- like no other- her brushstrokes and ability to mix colors- is what her message to beginners is-
A painters signature brushstrokes and ability to see and mix colors is what makes their works stand out-
Beginners should have a mindset- as one practices- your signature brushstrokes will come out- that’s an “ah ha “ moment!!!
Experiment with what brushes can do- and how you can maneuver the brush in hand to create shapes- form-
Also- Helen’s small book - on reference- again this one is great- like a Cliff Notes on everything regarding painting-
Have fun- and thank you for posting Helen’s lessons/
Helen’s passion- words of wisdom- knowledge- great lectures - there’s generations that can learn from Helen-
Bravooo !
Helen you are a wonder and you are missed. 💜💜
