My dream is to become a professional bookbinder. I wanted to start bookbinding school last year but I couldn't find any craftsman willing to take me in during my learning... I still hope one day I will be able to learn these marvelous arts that are bookbinding and artisanal paper printing (I am learning "modern" printing in school now), but till that day arrives, I watch this kind of video that simply makes my heart burn with passion and longing to discover more about this. I am very grateful I found this video, the shop address is now on the top of my list for the day I will go visit Italy :)
That is exquisite! Just like everything in Firenze is! Firenze is 100 % total and complete eye candy! The art, the monuments, the streets, the food, everything they do is extremely artistic down to the smallest detail. They know the meaning of "God is in the detail!" I've been there many times and never get enough of the exquisiteness of this city and all its artisans! Pure magic!
Next Voyage of the Paper Marbling Istanbul Ebru from Istanbul to pass through the Silk Road to Europe is based on the art of the 15th century . Some people using this route for passengers and commerce , the country returning to Istanbul from marbled paper and decorated with marbling should have brought some books with them. This paper in Europe , was named as the Turkish paper over the centuries , to be used as decorating books and valuable papers were purchased from Turkish ebru artist. The slightest alteration of this paper is to be used as valuable documents of each is different because of the marbling paper and on them was not clear.
I make origami roses with this kind if paper, i feel truly amazed at its beauty and hand up the flowers next to a frame holding an unfolded paper, just to see it in its original form
Ebru sanati bize ait olmasina ragmen hic bu derece seri ve guzel desen videosu gormedim. Emegine saglik. Bir sanata sahip cikmak oldugu yerde kalmasi demek degil. Yaymak ve gelistirmekte onemli.
What kind of paint is that, an acrylic or oil? Is it watered down or mixed with alcohol or something? Thanks for the video. Love Firenze, my favorite city in the world.
This art ladies and gentlemen, is easy to learn but is hard to be a master. Also every work looks familiar but are not absolute the same, just like us, like human being.
saludo cordial, que clase de materiales usas para que los oleos no se vayan al fondo y tenga buena adherencia, se puede usar papel amasado reciclado, muchas gracias Dios te bendiga.
I've tried with acrylic paint on tapwater, and oil thinned with turpentine, but it does not work for me. What do I have to do to make mine look like this, and be as firm as this?
I've been trying to figure that out as well. It always looks like the Italian makers are using regular water, but a trick I've read is to mix the water with methylcellulose, which makes the water thicker and makes the paint float on top more readily. The method I saw used acrylic paint watered down.
What makes the paint float on the water? I have tried dripping acrylic and watercolor paints into a tub of water, but the paints sink and do not disperse on top like shown in this video. Do you treat the water with anything?
It is a very beautiful art form, and no end of creativity. I am assuming that it was the gentleman's shop, and would that mean he makes his living from selling these works of art? What type of price are you looking at for the piece in that size created? Thank for the upload, and the setting was just great.
He did not charge me for that piece, because we are friends. I think individual pieces are around 6 Euro. The framing I had done at home was much more expensive. :-)
I don't know about this place but you can search for Ebru Art Classes in your city. If there's a turkish community where you live, there are chances that someone is doing this art.
Visited his shop while in Florence in Sept 2015 and left with many sheets of paper and a leather bound. Journal that he made for us while we waited.
+Matthew Thurlow Great! Did you tell him you'd seen this video?
+Julie Hedlund yes, we told him you and this video were the reason we came to his shop. Thanks for the video, we would have never known to visit.
+Matthew Thurlow So happy to hear that! They are such nice people and do beautiful work!

@4:55, he is checking which side is mordanted. Mordanting or aluming the paper makes it able to fixed the colours to the paper.

Gorgeous and fascinating. I feel very relaxed after watching that.
