I used to love the children's programmes on ITV and I always looked forward to coming home from school and watching CITV and occasionally CBBC as well.
Tickety Boo! and Thumbs Up were both broadcast for five weeks throughout July and August 1997 these new pre-school programmes launched on the second week of the summer break in 1997 then was broadcast until the last week of the summer holidays.
I used to love recording the programmes for pre-school children when I was a child that's all I ever taped I never bothered with the full afternoons although sometimes I did often tape them but often it was just the pre-school programmes.
CITV was the ITV network's best children's strands broadcast five days a week from a Monday to Friday and they had many fantastic children's shows from programmes for the little ones at the start of the afternoon to programmes for older children later in the afternoon.
I remember recording the pre-school programmes a lot when I was a child I never really bothered about the full afternoons but I did occasionally tape them however it was mainly the pre-school shows I taped.
Tickety Boo and Thumbs Up only ran for five weeks in July and August 1997 and it only was broadcast in the summer of that year so they were very shortlived programmes.
Tickety Boo! was broadcast on CITV for five weeks over summer 1997 so from Wednesday 30th July to 27th August and the same with Thumbs Up! they had five episodes from Thursday 31st July to 28th August.
Thumbs Up was shown for five weeks over summer 1997 from Thursday 31st July to 28th August then it was replaced by new programmes the following week at the beginning of September.
CITV had a lot of brand-new programmes in the summer of 1997 including Thumbs Up, Tickety Boo! and the Zzzap! Summer Special they must have had lots of other new shows but I don't remember which ones unfortunately
I used to love the first 20 minutes of CITV which featured the pre-school section and I always looked forward to coming home from school and watching the pre-school programmes plus the pre-school song and start-up.
I feel like a little kid when it comes to watching programmes from the summer of 1997 as I watched CITV occasionally back then but I don't remember what I watched at the time, however I do remember seeing some programmes back in July and August of that year which I would really like to see again after a long time.
Thank you so much for uploading this to TH-cam I used to love the programmes which were made for the pre-school audience and I used to love watching them on CITV.
Thank you so much for uploading this video to TH-cam I used to love watching CITV's pre-school programming strand as a child so it is nice to see recordings of the pre-school CITV shows which I haven't seen for many years or which are completely brand-new to me.
Thank you so much for uploading this video to TH-cam I love Thumbs Up as it had brilliant pre-school games for example crawling, bouncing, linking, dressing up and hunting for buried treasure.
A lot of the companies who made network programmes for ITV so to be broadcast nationally used their identity logo which was exactly the same as the ident used for regional programmes except the only difference between the regional and national idents is that the ident used for national programmes had the ITV logo underneath it and that was used for all ITV programmes which were made for national broadcast.
Thumbs Up Host Cheryl Baker Broadcast Action Time in association with Carlton for ITV, 31 July to 28 August 1997 Synopsis Three teams of four-year-olds compete in games with a "learning through play" element. There wasn't that much of a competitive edge to it because the winning team's prize consisted of being the first to open a sack with a huge cuddly toy - which all the contestants got. A quite interesting show because it was probably the first time (and the last) that ITV tried to introduce a game show for a pre-school audience. By the looks of what happened, the idea got a thumbs down (I'll get my coat...) Inventor Trish Kinane
