Gena Rowlands not winning an Oscar for Best Actress is truly unjust. Her performance ranks among the best in my heart.GOAT. In the movie "A Woman Under the Influence," she delivered one of the most outstanding performances of a sensitive, suspicious, and neurotic female character in cinematic history. It's difficult to perform these qualities without overacting, but she did it perfectly and naturally, conveying raw depressive black emotions. I really admire her, and it's a pity she didn't win the Oscar for her performance. Her performances in both "A Woman Under the Influence" and "Opening Night" deserve two little gold statues...
Easily one of the greatest actors in human history; possibly the greatest actor in human history - but it's impossible to know for sure. Her perfection of conveyance of emotions and realizations - both huge and small: There are no words. We're just incredibly lucky that it's captured on film.
A thoroughly gorgeous woman who possessed far more than physical beauty. Gena Rowlands’ passing created an artistic void that can never be filled, replaced, nor equaled. Rest in Beautiful Peace, Miss Rowlands.
For me Rowlands has no peer. Her eyes always conveyed the film and the character she portrayed. She channeled her performances from some other reality.
Such a beautiful soul inside out and breathtaking beauty and storyteller. I have never been a fan of actors but she was one favorite of mine. True artist, as well as her Husband Mr. Cassavetes. Be with John in Heaven now Beautiful Ms. Rowlands!!!!!
" We have to be witnesses to each other-all of us-but particularly among artists. I know that people understand and respect the concept of loyalty among friends and lovers; peers and comrades. I believe in loyalty toward those who have given so much to our lives without the benefit of social or sexual intercourse-artists who have endowed us with their souls. We must be loyal to them. Show them respect. Spread the word. Be a witness. I'll give you a list, and the first name is that of Gena Rowlands." - Tennessee Williams
"It’s a question of finding things in yourself and developing them to a different level. That’s the only clue I can give to studying. It’s more instinctive than acting. Anyone who has eyes to see can tell almost anything about your life from watching you on film. You just can’t hide it. No matter how much you are into a character. You can just see an actor’s soul on film." - Gena Rowlands
My God what a woman ! What an actress ! The power and strength that came pouring out of her was astounding. As soon as held fixed in those eyes, as soon as held spellbound.
Descanse en paz la maravillosa e incomparable actriz Gena Rowlands, la más grande entre las grandes (en mi opinión), y la más bella. Gracias, Gena, por crear tanta belleza y emoción ❤ Y gracias por el vídeo y la música.
As I watch her I'm mesmerized can't take my eyes off her. My heart follows her as she weaves the person she is paying. The tend not to call female actresses an actor but Gena is an actor in everyday. From the early days when John started writing roles for her and little theatre group they had she was exceptional. Later after his death their son and other children followed. Notebook her son wrote for her outstanding performance. Nothing can beat her in Gloria I say it was first mob film coming out of the 80s before Godfather. What a gangster she was but so vulnerable in her loneliness she became family to boy who's whole family got murdered. She went up against crew she was with.I have watched that movie hundred of times.the movie with Peter Falk where he loves 2 woman coocoo wife and mother. The break out film. Nobody like her.
R.I.P. Virginia Cathryn "Gena" Rowlands Rest in Power with your husband and artistic collaborator John (Cassavetes). You are one of the greatest actors ever. Your contributions to the art of acting, theater and cinema will never be forgotten. I'll be writing something and making a video after I get my thoughts together. This loss really hurts.
A wonderful actress. Saw her on an episode of Columbo TOS with Peter Falk. She and her late husband, actot and director John Cassavetes, were good friends with Peter Falk. They are now together in heaven.
Mr. John thoroughly captured Miss Gena's soulful essence...on film. Hard not to shed tears of joy, marvel and of course deep melancholy whenever I watch their work!
You will never be forgotten. You rock! What a legacy you left. Thank you so very much! ❤. Heaven is the lucky one now. I really appreciate this post of such a Dear Lady!
Beautiful talented loving, just everything we could all aspire to RIP Ms Rowlands, hopefully you will join the love of your life, Thank you for sharing your gifts 💥💕🙏.. “my cup runneth over”
What a Beautiful compilation and tribute to such a talented actress and star. I have always found her to be both Beautiful and fascinating! Looking through these pictures of her, I can see so much resemblance to the also talented and beautiful actress Cate Blanchett.
R.I.P. VIRGINIA CATHRYN "GENA" ROWLANDS (1930-2024) Abridged Gena Rowlands as Mabel Longhetti in "A Woman Under the Influence" (1974), Directed by John Cassavetes, is one of the three greatest acting performances on film that I have ever seen. The filmmaking of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands holds the most special place in my heart and soul as both an audience member and as a filmmaker. Cassavetes has been described as being both an astonishing director of actors, and (an agitating) director of the audience. I would add to that insight that John couldn't have worked, fell in love and spent his life with a better co-director and collaborator than Gena to astound, baffle, frighten, shake, rattle, unnerve, and disturb the audiences of their films. As a performer, Gena is one of the actors on a very short list who showed me the possibilities of an acting performance beyond its conventional forms. Instead of just an actor fulfilling the needs of their character in a scene, it transforms into someone living their mysterious, unique, unpredictable, painful, lonely, tumultuous, intense, but also enduring and hopeful life onscreen. In her greatest performances, like Mabel Longhetti, Gena has that rare quality of creating what I call "spiritual danger" in her acting. It is this quality that makes audiences most uncomfortable. There's a lot of good acting out there for audiences to enjoy. There's a lot of award winning worthy acting out there for audiences to admire. But there are few performances like Gena's in "A Woman Under the Influence" that slip under your skin, that dig deep into your flesh, that pierce you to the very core of your heart's pulse, that stare into your soul with an intense, blinding gaze that can be unbearable. Rest in peace Gena. Your massive contributions to the arts of acting, theater, and cinema will never be forgotten. Your work with John will continue to inspire generations of artists - if they are brave enough and talented enough - to push the boundaries of their art forms in the search for the truth.
I was born in 1988, and I've only been used to seeing Rowlands in supporting roles. I didn't know her collaborations with husband John Cassavetes and their films. Last week, I watched A Woman Under the Influence for the first time, and I was shocked on how brilliant of an actress Gena is. Oh, my god. Her performance in that film is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen from actress in a long time. Such a powerhouse. I just finished watching Opening Night for the first time, and I just fell in love with her. Another incredible performance. She is one of those actresses where you can't tell if she's acting. She's so natural. Wish she was given better quality roles nowadays. Of course she's in her 90's, but within the past 30 years, I wish she was given more staring roles like Meryl Streep. At this point, I put Rowlands on top of one of the best actresses in the business. She's great. Next film of hers, I might watch either Love Streams or Gloria.
Both LS and G are terrific, though I agree that AWUTI is her masterpiece. Please also check her out in Woody Allen’s Another Woman, and, of course, The Notebook.
Dear Mrs Gena Rowlands you are One of the Great Actres in the World, Mom you have the chemi for your Profeshen I Love watching your Move agen and agen,it feels Good the Way you make Move. Mom, you and me have the same day Berthday, God bless you in Everyday your life. Thank you so much
