Hi, that's just plugged straight into a 30 watt Fender Champion practice amp. It has built-in effects. I just added a bit of echo and that's about it. Thanks for viewing.
Awesome thanks for posting this. I dont think Ed gets nearly enough credit for what he did with the trans-trem. He wrote some really different and I think interesting music with this guitar, took his playing a different direction, that was still totally EVH. I am not sure what, why or how... but Eds creativity as an artist really stalled towards the end of the ernie-ball phase. I remember back then thinking... Cool deal with ernie ball (total bad-ass guitar)... but why'd you ditch the Steinberger???
I think age and pain took its toll. A guy who needed a new hip at age 40 had to be going through some extreme discomfort for several years leading up to that. Emotional pain can be a great spark creatively but I've found physical agony just deadens many aspects of your life. When you feel like shit you don't feel like playing anything. You just zone out in front of TV and wait for the meds to kick in. Then he got cancer, beat it, kicked the alcoholism finally, was then hit by diverticulitis, switched to vaping finally, and after facing all those demons the fucking cancer comes roaring back.
Keep it on bro!!!! Thats was awesome man! Lovin them Van halen songs (summer nights, and Get up) Haven't ever seen a Transtrem in use before. Very interesting. must be fun to play! Also lovin them licks with the neck pup!! sweet as job bro! Loving the Oughh too haha!! Sticktrix (forum bro)
Monsters of Rock 88... Ed just busted into summer nights with the exact guitar youre holding and he busted a string. He launched it offstage and he used the 5150 guitar after that. I was pissed because i was so stoked to see the "broom" in action haha
No, that's a plugged straight into a Fender Champion 30 DSP, a practice amp. They were discontinued a few years ago. Great amp for the money. You can find one for around $100-150.
Great platinh! Iobr 5150 album. Do Spirit Steinbergers have the same trem? Was trying to find one on eBay but only saw Spirits unless you want to spend over 3k
Thanks dood :). Um, usually they are between $2500 and 5000. There was a GL2T-GR that was mooded that went for $1880 couple weeks ago on Ebay Some of the unusual colors will go even higher. A red one went for over 8k last year on Evilbay.
Hi Satch, that is a spare Steinberger faceplate I had that a friend painted evh-ish. You know, I used to break a lot of high E strings but if you slowly stretch them out on the guitar after you put them on they can actually last a long time. Thanks for viewing. :)
Hi Mooncaine, I use thin picks .50-60 gauge usually (if I have them handy) and 9-42 strings for the most part. Thanks very much for your comments and for viewing. :)
Unfortunately, no. The GL Steins like this haven't been made since 1998. MusicYo used to sell Transtrem equipped Steinberger up until recently. Word is, they will no longer sell them. There is 'supposedly' a new Transtrem Steinberger guitar coming out called the Z3T. I wonder though if it will ever see the light of day...
Hello, yes, the TT does function as a regular whammy however, it doesn't have the 'range' of a FR as it does not pivot the same as a FR type trem. After you have played the trem for a while, you begin to get a feel for the position of the bar/trem and memorize those positions when locking/unlocking. I will soon put up a vid with detail explaining these functions hopefully in the near future. Thanks
Awesome dude. Hey I'm thinking about getting a steinberger but not sure what you did to get it up a step1/2 for "summer nights" Was it the Trem bar that kept you a step up? Cheers
"When you're playing this low, the strings are so lose that...well, you pretty much sound like shit." And then you proceed to rip it the fuck up. Awesome XD Great work and thanks for the demo! (even though I'm catching it a few years late!)
Cool, very fun to watch and hear, since I'm a player, too. You make that look so effortless -- when I do that kind of hammering/tapping, I feel like I'm beating my fingers against a chain link fence. What kind of pick do you use, and what gauge strings?
Oh BTW I forgot to ask, I really like your sound, what gear are you playing through for this video? That trans trem is sounding so sick i think I am going to try and get one used and retrofit it to my favorite axe. Cheers, IC
great video dude. is that a cover or paint job on there? i hear the new wood steinbergers arent near as nice as the old school composite ones... do you break many strings pulling it that sharp?
@ahyes1977 Yeah, I never understood why a company that has a successful product that sells for a mint even years later (like the original GL) wouldn't re-release something that had similar features, like a synapse with the TT2. Guess that's why I don't run a business. Anyway, back to the video -- great work... thanks for sharing!
I'd so but a steinbuger right fuckin now if they had a headstock. I just can't get into the feel of the guitar without the weight of the headstock up there. I also don't dig it's headless looks. I do however LOVE the trans trem. I think besides the floyd's debuet, the trans trem is the next single most awsome trem, maby the best trem ever, they work rediclously good. Cheers, IC.
can you make a tutorial for summer nights please, and can you tell me where you got the stienberger with that piant job because i havent been able to find one with that finish.
Can you provide me with the tabs for "summer nights?" They have a tab for standard tuning on a regular guitar, but I wanna learn how to play it like eddie duz. Thanks
this is one of the most bitchin vids on the tube! i dont wanna gush but U KICK ASS! does evh use a steinberger on me wise magic? love summer nights btw.. the only hagar era tune worth a damn....
..well, his daddy isn't Eddie so, you'll never hear about this guy like some of us are sick of hearing of Eddie's kid. (Talented as he may be, this guy has chops too..and his daddy didn't teach him personally for 25 years, so, not famous lol)
Hi Satch, yea, stick with the TT2s. I heard a lot of negative stuff about the TT3. So I decided a while back not to get a ZT3 unless a heard more positive feedback. As of yet I haven't. The TT2s also have more range. Try and pick up a TT2 equipped Stein. About the customer support, I agree. You have to take in account you are dealing with a subsidiary of Gibson, one of the most suck ass companies in the guitar industry. Dino
You really have to have a Steinberger with the original Trans-Trem on it. Don't think you can get the same effect on the crap Spirits. Those guitars are not even close to the original Steinbergers of the 80s. Be ready to spend $5000-6000 on an 80s Steinberger, that's going off the ones I saw on Ebay. Just sayin.
awesome!!! i remember wanting one when i was a teenager in 1987. eddie looked so cool smoking off the headstock!
The "UH!" during summer nights was hilarious XD
Needed more treble in the, "Ugghhh!". Great. Everyone forgets that bit.

Damn dude, that is some sweet playing, and a sick guitar.. Nice
Keep it on bro!!!!

Can you play the rest of Me Wise Magic? I think that is Eddie and Daves best ever
EPIC GUITAR!

god im in love with that guitar now

Thanks. It was plugged into a Fender Champion 30 solid state practice amp. Very cheap $99 10" speaker amp.
Only place to find them is on the used market. Ebay, classifieds, etc

Hi planowho and thanks! I never played a Spirit ( I don't think) but from what I heard they are decent guitars.
when your play this low, well... you sound fucking awesome more like it haha.
Cool, very fun to watch and hear, since I'm a player, too. You make that look so effortless -- when I do that kind of hammering/tapping, I feel like I'm beating my fingers against a chain link fence. What kind of pick do you use, and what gauge strings?
so you can basically use the trem to bend entire chords keeping each note in tune?
Thanks, bud!
LOL greatness.
Yea, I also hear you can solder the ends of the strings and they won't break. I've yet to try it tho...
Nailed it!
Oh BTW I forgot to ask, I really like your sound, what gear are you playing through for this video? That trans trem is sounding so sick i think I am going to try and get one used and retrofit it to my favorite axe. Cheers, IC
Wish u woulda never sold mine.,
Awesome demo dude!
So tell us how does that neck/fingerboard feel as compared to a regular guitar?
great video dude. is that a cover or paint job on there? i hear the new wood steinbergers arent near as nice as the old school composite ones... do you break many strings pulling it that sharp?
awesome playing,i just bought one of those very cheap ktone guitars, steinberger copy, how did you paint yours
What a great video..Very nice job and impressive. I've always wanted to try one of tose Steinbergers...Great job and are you sure you're not Eddie! =)
Oh, I meant to add that I'm using 10-46 strings. Maybe I should take a walk on the light gauge side and remind myself what that feels like again.
could u please tell me what amp and settings you are using to get that tone for summer nights?
Hey Dino, I always like your vids. I'd love to have a GL Stein. What do they cost? about
2K seems to be the norm.
Awesome, man!
Could you tell me what's your setup? Amp-cab-pedals etc?
What kind of rig are you using?? Sounds great.
This is a GL2T. Same model Ed used. Transtrem bridge. Thanks
EMG 81 in bridge, 85 in neck.
You have to have a Trantrem equipped Steinberger. Spirits Don't have the Transtrem. :)
i believe so
I'd so but a steinbuger right fuckin now if they had a headstock. I just can't get into the feel of the guitar without the weight of the headstock up there. I also don't dig it's headless looks. Just what you need Satch.
Get one.
Man that guitar is sweet. I've always wanted one of those GL's but they're just too darn expensive and the cheaper ones are just terrible.
did u custom paint that or did they actually produce those with Ed's Stripes
nice but steinberger's are pretty expensive for me...
nice playing keep it up!
can you make a tutorial for summer nights please, and can you tell me where you got the stienberger with that piant job because i havent been able to find one with that finish.
is that a synapse guitar? i hat ethose, they are heavy for their size, lol!
Summer Nights
damn how do you make those pick slides sound so nasty?
Do they still make Synapses with Trans-Trems anymore?
It's custom painted, thanks.
Can you provide me with the tabs for "summer nights?" They have a tab for standard tuning on a regular guitar, but I wanna learn how to play it like eddie duz. Thanks
@MrBakkify thanks, man!
