  • Imagine having a rare, debilitating and fatal disease that’s passed down from generation to generation. It’s called hereditary ATTR amyloidosis. Its symptoms are similar to other conditions and ATTR amyloidosis patients are very often misdiagnosed. But because it’s a genetic disease, family history plays a crucial role. Third cousins, 44-year-old Dawn Gimbel-Myers and 42-year-old Christina Lindsey are impacted through six generations. They’re part of the fifth generation. Both women have a genetically positive diagnosis for the disease. But it is possible to have the genetic mutation and not develop the disease. And they’re doing everything in their power to arm themselves with education. Tune in to meet Dawn and Christina, and learn about symptoms, family connections and treatment options, in this Behind the Mystery: Rare & Genetic segment. The earlier the diagnosis, the better. You don’t want to miss this.

Fortunately they have a drug called Vyndamax to help deal with this situation.

I wish they could have done treatments on my husband. He was diagnosed with Amyloidosis with cardiac involvement in April of 2015. He lost his battle to this Evil monster on February 23, 2016. He requested to go to science which he did. He had said hopefully they can figure out what causes Amly or try to give others longer time with their families..

My mom got into the study late in the game. We found out she had actually been getting the medicine.
My daughter and I also have the gene. I'm so thankful we have a treatment now! Watching her suffer was horrible.

While there is no cure, there are great treatment options for extending life.
