Hi, thanks for your message. The Dapol/Airfix kits are great fun and ideal for kit-bashing as well. They are good for building up skills in modelling because they are inexpensive and the plastic is reasonably soft and easy to cut. But they are very old moulds so be sure to buy a tube of filler to fix up any gaps and fill the ejector pin marks. Once in a while buy an original Airfix kit from an auction site/model show and you'll see the difference. I have used over 115 Airfix/Dapol kits on this layout so far including every single one from their original catalogue. Some go together better than others. I would recommend starting with the Engine Shed, Service Station, Detached House, Water Tower and Esso Tank Wagon. Have fun! All the best, Guy
Thanks, I appreciate it. I like your experiments with steam engines, interesting and fun. Meccano as Frank Hornby intended it, to be played and experimented with.. ditto for Mamod etc. I got the Mamod stationary engine with the black chimney sometime in my early teens and built a steam operated gantry crane (with Meccano borrowed from school). So much fun. I guess it's stored away in my brother's farm in Tasmania now, since I have lived in France for the past 20 years. I've subscribed and I look forward to more of your projects, Cheers Guy
Very interesting, i have just brought my first set and plan on building a 1960's layout. Im inspired to use old kits like you have.
