I sure do love the music that Steve Earle makes and I have for the last 30 years. But what I really love is that he toned down the CMT aspect of his music and embraced who he became as he aged. The result for us is 40 years of great music. Not many singer - songwriters can say this. The guy is outstanding.`
this is a song written about his grandfather...his father and himself...just like guitar town...love it..rhats what a real troubadour does tell the best stories
Witnessed this LEGEND in June 90's 'Emerald Suite' Europa Hotel Belfast Have seen him every year since.. in Ireland. Heading to Vicar Street Dublin 24 July 2018 Can't wait. Me n Monie gonna have a ball. WooHoo
My grandad was a coal miner. My mother took the Hillbilly Highway to Detroit when she was just 16 or 17 to work at tank plant during WW2. She married a big band musician, my dad.
I've like this man's music and it's hard to see him in the shape he is in during this performance. I mean no disrespect, but you can see it in his eyes..... he was taking a walk on the slippery side of the slope at this point in his life.
I think if i was to listen to all of his songs i'd love em all nd there's only 3 artist whose every song i love nd they're Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and George Strait :)
@headstock48 I would say Justin is a better guitar player (and Steve has said the same) and has a prettier voice, but I think Steve is a better songwriter and his voice is more expressive. But as you say, "best" is a matter of taste. They both have a lot of talent.

Damn good song. They said they don't make them like they used to, well you don't hear this kind of country on the radio these days.

Country is Country that's it.😊
Crank it up and check the drums at 2:46. No band ever made country so cool.

Happens to a lot of people, but he's still cool.
That makes his performance even more impressive as far as I am concerned...❤

@headstock48 Imagine that Justin had every opportunity and a great set of genes at his disposal.
It's a shame his sound guy was in the bathroom during this song they missed the music levels and back up vocals couldn't hear any of them.
Capo on 2?
Looks like right on the wire dividing 1 and 2. That would make it capo on the first fret.
has anyone topped this yet? Nope lol
Definitely cute & great buns.
@@allrightnow3653 he still is a hunk, but an older one.
@@elisabethlewis6084 you are correct. I'm gonna delete my dumb comment
He's a mature hunk...lol

I see steve uses a capo
Toby Keith is a politician. Steve Earle is a musician who occasionally dabbles in silly politics.
Yeah right. Toby is an awesome talent but he's just a right-wing ass-kisser.
TK is a plagiarizing dipshit

Please. buy a new shirt.
shut up
That was years ago when real work was performed by real musicians..fuck your wardrobe changes
HE WAS AND STILL IS A GREAT SINGER AND SONG WRITER.
''influenced by springstine'' sorry, don't see it...thank God
19tractor52 wasn’t influenced by Springsteen. All of his influence came from Townes Van Zandt. He’ll tell you the same.
