    Videos like this inspired me to get a Plexi and I recently got my own 67, a 50 watt Bass spec. Very close to the serial number on the amp in the video. Through a 68 straight cab with Pulsonic G12M’s it sounds so much like this 100 watter.

    Wow. Museum piece. A '67 with the Drake 100w transformers is really rare and special. Eddie Van Halen is looking down smiling 🎸

    The 57 Classics are just dope amazing. I have them in my 50s standard from the factory with the aaa flame top iced tea model. They sound amazing on this amp. Really Really nice set up and settings, PERFECT!❤

    My favourite Marshall! I noticed on the inside chassis shot that there is no bright cap on the volume pot. In 1967 that was the only difference between a SL and a Super Bass, so you're basically using a Super bass (fine amp as well, Paul Kossoff etc). The difference is that the SL (especially fitted with the 5000pf) will have monster gain. Anyhow, great vid!

      Thanks very much! And kudos to you for your Eagle eye on the circuitry. Yes, the amp doesn't have lots of gain, although there is still plenty there. One thing this or any video doesn't put across very well is the awesome, leg shaking power that these things produce when turned up loud. I'm sure I don't need to tell you about that though.

    Legendary sounds and great playing! Awesome job with micing it up as well. Would love to briefly hear the sm57 and the room mic separately to get a reference for my own recordings.

      Thanks! The close mic is in the left speaker and the room mic is in the right speaker, if that helps at all.

    Very very nice. Hold on to that rig. The 20 watt greenbacks will really get great greakup too. Really looks to be in great shape too.

      That was prior to Celestion putting 25w decals over the 20w to meet regulations. There's a story about that, and you can find pictures of them.

    Did you just crank in straight into 4*20w(80w) speakers or did you knock off a bit with an attenuator?

    • @seaofblackcans1775
      @seaofblackcans1775  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For the video we chanced it and went straight into the cab. Playing with fire, I know, but it sounds so much better.

      @@seaofblackcans1775The 20Watt speakers are rated at 25W just like the EVH 20W in his cabs that celestion makes, for him. I asked about those cabs with 4 20 watts made in England Celestions, the EVH ones. The old ones like you have will blow, for sure, and back in the day I have read stories they would take it to the edge and blow them up quite a bit getting to the sweet spot in the at breakup. I have heard the way to get around blowing a speaker at full roar is to run two cabs and set the amp at 8ohms, for 2 cab application. Its alot harder to blow a speaker running 8 at 8 ohms vs runninng full roar into four at 16 ohms.

      @@M4USMC I've sold the amp and the cab now, and the fella who bought the cab has bought a '66 JTM45 to run through the cab, so it should present less of an issue for him. You could say that that cab is an ideal match for a JTM45, and that the reason why celestion started to produce higher rated speakers for use with Super Lead 100s was because the 20 watters couldn't hack the power of those amps. Either way, I regularly gigged with this amp and cab between 1998 and about 2003 and the speakers were in perfect working order when I sold the cab, although I did use a Boss DS2 pedal for distortion and tended not to crank the amp as I never needed that much volume.

    The reason I could see for selling this artifact would be ransom money.
