Hi Paul, Huge thanks for these video's. You made a seemingly impossible task (learn Umbraco) into something easy to understand. Really good series. Thanks.
Is there any naming conventions that Umbraco uses. Such as Document Type Pages ending Model or beginning with an _ So that you don't get confused with Home, Home and Home etc? Think launching into an Article and Article list was harsh. Maybe a simple second page building up to the biggy of Articles. Just a suggestion. I found it a bit mind blowing.
Hi Paul! I'm having a small issue. In the content tab, in the "Home", when you click the 3 dots, your items are in order. Mines are in random order. How can I put them in alphabetical order?
@@CodeSharePaul Thanks for the tip. In Umbraco 8.10 under the home doc type -> permission -> Allowed child node types -> you can drag and drop the items in any order you want.
I use a separate date because using the published date can show unexpected results. What if you unpublish the article and then republish it. How do you change the published date back? What if you just want it to be set to a specific date and never change?
@@CodeSharePaul is it not possible to get the first published date and the last published date? It would be quite useful for some content, to show when it was first published and then when it was edited last.
These have been great so far... keep them up. Quick question, I am new to Umbraco 8. If a client wants to have a blog, event calendar, contact forms on their site... is there modules or plugins in umbraco to get that functionality right away vs building it from scratch? Any thoughts on that? I was kind of leaning to building it from scratch to have maximum flexibility.
In v7 there are packages for most things like this, in v8 there are less. I would encourage you to see what’s already available and if not then customise your own. And perhaps create a package for it.
Hehe, the tip to add a pink fragment icon for a composition was from 'back in the day' before the composition picker 'grouped by folders'... the compositions would be listed amongst the document types, and the pink icon made them stand out and be easier to pick... now they are all grouped in their own folder, it's not such a good tip! but I like you have carried on the tradition :-)
It really helps when you are picking the doc types which can be children. You see it in the video, I could just look for blue icons that are the pages.
Beginning from nothing, no pages no compositions then moving on, so Very helpful, thank you man.
You’re very welcome
I've searched for an Umbraco tutorial everywhere. This is the best one (trust me)
Thanks mate. That’s great to hear

Are you talking about being able to right click and sort?
Paul Seal Yes, I think. Here you can see imgur.com/a/F9TJjK1
I see. Maybe you could go to the home doc type, go to permissions, remove the items and add them again in the right order

Question. Shouldn't the article date work dynamically from the date you publish the page?
