1987 Cruise Around the City of Port Phillip. Guitar cover by Geoff Reeves of ‘Tougher Than the Rest’ by Bruce Springsteen released in 87. Footage sourced from the tele movie ‘A Matter of Convenience’ also made in 87 starring Deborah-Lee Furness, John Clarke and Jean Pierre Cassel.
This is awesome. I was living in Acland Street back in '87, and used to frequently patronise the St Kilda Video store, Eutopa Cake shop and Esplanade Hotel, all shown in this video. The nostalgia brought tears to my eyes. Ah, great times, how I'd love to go back there.
So good to see the shots of Acland Street with every parking spot filled and tram rolling right up to the Village Belle. Completely fucked by the council now. Grew up in St Kilda in mid-90's as a teen and then moved into Elwood for many years afterwards. So glad I saw St Kilda in its prime - the suburb where there was something literally for anyone. Cheap, nasty, sleezy and dodgy? No worries. Upmarket but low-key? Easy done. Best thing about it. Let's hope it gets back to these great days of heaving pavements on Fitzroy and Acland Streets on day.
Love it Gezza, around the time Bojangles would've been flying. Great to see my favourite Acland St cake shop, Europa, get a shot in as well. Thanks mate
1987. Great year. I got out of Pentridge in January and was on my way to Europe in February. 36 years ago. Great suburb St Kilda. I dont know what all the old cop shows would have done without it. You would think there was nowhere else to film. Was that Dame Edna going through the bins at 2.56

88 got out of the railways, next day headed to the States and Europe. Cannot beat travelling when young.
