I agree this does make sense because i too when i was a kd thought rudy was gonna be one of the top players in the league too. He had the superstar talent. Great size, athleticism, skill, he had everything. I was so excited when my raptors traded for him he seemed to be the superstar we needed. Ironically trading him lead to forming our championship core that went on to compete in playoffs for years on end. The issue with rudy is exactly this, he was a selfish player. He got tunnel vision when he played for us. I remember one play where there was fast break with him and demar running up the court. Demar was open up the court but rather then rudy passing the ball he took a shot that missed n could see demar visibly upset. He also had a game where he took 37 shots think scored like 14 dnt remember the exact details then he banned everyone from looking at the stats in the locker room after game. I used to watch Rudy Gay on the Sacramento Kings and wonder why he wasn’t more than what he already was and he was already a walking highlight every game. Then I watch his Toronto/Memphis highlights and I just wanted to see him on a winning team so bad since then. He was in what he called “his worst shooting slump of his career” then he tore his acl. It wasn’t even that noticeable, I thought the team just wasn’t clicking yet.
He had some of the best highlights I’ve ever seen in basketball. Game winners on legit all star defenders faces, silky smooth moves and oh yeah the beautifully nasty posters. Then he had the mean mug to make it look tough 😂
Rudy gay is a very talented Hooper.. funny how he told this story and validated my observations.. I watch Rudy gay live three times and he was trash with all that talent
@@1kingzeusvery true. Rudy gay was PG before PG . Got superstar status while in Toronto . Even played pretty well . But Rudy is more of a closer player. You don’t need him to be on it the whole game. You just need him to finish it. Sometimes coaching plays a factor. Memphis was no nonsense so they got him up outta there since there was no need to replace him. I just think he played during the wrong era. If he came into the league now he would have thrived as a power forward. He preferred to play as a 4 instead of a 3 but he's just not good enough as a wing and a shooter. Was also too small to excel at the 4 during the time he came into the league.
