    I'm from Michigan, lived in Cedar Rapids two years ago and now in Marengo, Iowa. At the time I thought the storm was intense over here. To all of those suffering, you are in my thoughts and prayers ❤

    May God BLESS Cedar Rapids and all of those in the path of the Dorecho. May we come together and help each other. Ask your neighbor if they need anything, a ride to the store, a bag of ice, a place to charge their phone. BE KIND AND HELPFUL! I went four days without electricity, no phone and no perishable food. People have reached out and helped me and I will be forever grateful. I still need help but others are in a worse situation. Where are our homeless right now? Is anyone helping them?

      I live in Marion, which may have been hit harder than Cedar Rapids. I bought a ten pound bag of ice on Thursday, but I only needed half of it as I was lucky enough to get my power back. This seems stupid to post on here, but if someone can use that ice, I’ll get it to you.

    I live in Cedar Rapids Iowa and had 85% of all the trees on my property either uprooted or broke in half and fell over one evergreen tree that came down was so tall that it covered my entire front yard which is about 300 ft it also brought down power and cable lines and nearly ripped the meter off the side of the house I had to drive nearly 45 minutes out of town just to get my Verizon to even connect to TH-cam doesn't sound like we're going to get power back for several days and it's like this all over Iowa Cedar Rapids Hiawatha Marion all pretty much destroyed

    • @bkittenface3637
      @bkittenface3637 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m selling my down trees to help pay to get off the power grid completely. I’m sorry you lost such a big tree, hope you can at least sell the timber prices are good right now.

    • @kimberlyscabiniowa1199
      @kimberlyscabiniowa1199 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am so sorry for your losses. You are alive and you are BLESSED! We have sunshine for the days to come and will help with the recovery. People will come and help you, hang tight. At least you have a vehicle and can charge your phone. I have no transportation to get to the store and food is running out. CR is totally destroyed, looks like a war zone, but they have set up food sights and phone charging stations. IF YOU HAVE TRANSPORTATION. Plus half the people in CR still have no electricity so have no idea of the available resources. You only have ten days to submit applications for financial help so get on it. Think positively and take baby steps. This situation is temporary. We will all survive and get through it. There is a place you can go to ask for help with cleanup, etc. Go to facebook and enter: Iowa Derecho Storm Rescue to let volunteers there know you need help. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

      @@bkittenface3637 I don't know where you're at, but timber has to be pretty worthless in the Cedar Rapids IA area right now. I mean you can literally drive down *any* street and take as much as you want for free.

      There are food banks setting up throughout the city, with bottled water, milk and ice. The Cellular Center is a phone charging station if you need that. You can call United Way at 211 for help with food too.

    Devastating and heartbreaking and so underreported. This caused 90,000 square miles of damage affecting 20 million people. In Iowa alone the extreme wind corridor (100 mph -140 mph) covered an area of 2,000 square miles affecting 300,000 people and forever changing numerous cities along it's path. For a weather event this historic and significant this got nowhere near the national coverage that Katrina, 9/11, Joplin, The Camp Fire, or the Japan Tsunami got. These people and extreme rare events like this deserve just as much attention as the others regardless of where any happened. Thoughts, prayers, vibes, wishes, and support goes out to all affected by this event, and especially for those still trying to recover 15 months on.

    For anyone in need of volunteers to help with big and small projects or any need at all, go to the facebook page: Iowa Derecho Storm Rescue. A local man, Raymond Siddell has set this page up to connect volunteers and people with needs to work together. When you become overwhelmed with this all, just remember our situation in TEMPORARY!! We will get through this and people are coming from all over to assist us. May you all stay safe and take care of each other.
