There are so many interesting topics I want to talk about in photography, glad to hear it resonates with you. I never travel as light as I want to, striving for a minimal photo kit this year!
Ohh you went for it! Man, there’s something about that 50 f1.2. The high res of the A7CR can look quite filmic, I think they did a great job with the processor on that camera. Congrats on the purchase, looking forward to seeing your shots
The beautiful thing about your videos is, that you could basically put them in a playlist and have an A-Z story because you always upload pointing to the next plot. Personally, I started with photography last August when I went to Taiwan for my exchange. Having a 40mm and 85mm prime might sometimes feel overwhelming. On some days I say, either one or none. It helps me to think about how to composite images without escapism in my mind, telling me: "Oh you still have another lens to use". Only works if you can play fair with yourself and not beat yourself up: "This shot would have worked with the other lens!".
Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such thoughtful feedback. Always interested to hear about others shooting experience, it’s actually why I started the channel! I like to shoot on 50mm/85mm on the first leg of the photo walk, then head back the way I came shooting 35mm. Forces myself to have a different perspective of the same scenes. Thanks for watching, more content to come!
Thank you Stephen! I am testing out their new canteener bags, a different type of workflow too. I love the 3.5L size for a day trip out. More content to come!
I use the 3.5L or the 7L Pilots daily. If I carry only my M10, 28 and 50mm lenses I use the 3.5L. If I throw the Q into the mix I carry the 7L and just love them. Looking at the 18L backpack now. Thanks
Just found your channel. I also have a full time job and use painting and photography as my mental heath outlets. This video hit home for me. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing Rodney - I am finding a lot of likeminded photographers who shoot for themselves from this channel. Keep shooting and thanks for watching! More content to come, this week’s video is coming soon.
I did 2 weeks in Japan last year and I had my Nikon D5300 and I used a 18-200 and London with a D750 and 28-80. Covered everything I needed. Perfect sharpness, no but I got every shot I wanted. To me that is worth more that one prime and sharpness. I can go back but will never relive that same point in time. My .02 cover all your bases with some sort of zoom. Cant wait to travel again, especially Japan again.
Two bodies and two zooms - It’s like you’re shooting a wedding! I wish I was a zoom shooter, it would make packing a lot easier. Tried the 24-70 GM ii, didn’t get along with it. Think the 16-35 might be more my speed. Thanks for watching hope you can make it to Japan again soon!
On a recent trip to Denmark I took just the Tamron 20-40mm f2.8 and was quite happy with not needing more lenses. Definitely recommend trying it out for staying quick and light. At most maybe adding an 85mm if you want more subject isolation.
Yes I tried the tamron 20-40mm! It’s a great lens, super sharp for photos. I had some issues with video autofocus compared to first party Sony lenses but still a great option
Excellent video … thanks! I have the X100V and shoot mostly landscapes … thinking about acquiring my first camera bag. Leaning towards the Wotancraft 7L for the tripod straps on the bottom but the 3.5 looks good too! 📷🙂
The 7L is my favourite bag out of the bunch, is just so versatile for everyday use and travel. I have affiliate links for Wotancraft in the video description, let them I know sent you their way to support the channel!
Again, another nice video. Keep up the good work. I am excited for the Fujivideo. I was a Sonyshooter, but I dont have enough time to sort and edit the photos anymore. So I got myself a Fujifilm xt 30 II. I enjoy the colos of the jpags a lot and it is all about the „taking the picture“. I have it in my hipbag all the time, it is great.
Very true. Made a recent trip to Japan with a 16-35mm f/4 PZ, Sigma 35mm f2, 50mm f2 manual focus prime, Ricoh GR3 + 3X. I ended up using my good old reliable combo, the 16-35 and 35mm f2 the most. Eventually I only took the 35mm f/2 in case of low light but used a Ricoh GR3 and a rental 3X as my main cameras. I missed bringing my brand new Tamron 70-180 but I guess I will use it some other trip. There's too much gear and fumbling every day, paralyzed by choice every morning. Less is more. I'm going to try the Sigma 35 and 65mm pair next trip.
This is so great. I’ve also had lens panic when traveling and ended up with an entire carry on full of gear. Have you tried the Sigma f/2 contemporary lenses? They’re designed to produce this really creamy bokeh and I’m really digging them. Thanks for sharing your work.
Hello thanks for sharing! Yes I tried the 35mm f2 and 65mm f2 - loved the form factor and the images, but sold them to get the 50mm f1.4 GM - it’s my favourite lens so worth the trade off! I do miss the smaller size though
I considered those bags from that company but just didn’t like how small that top cover is on their designs. I bought a Think Tank Retrospect 5 twelve years ago and have tried probably tried 10 bags since then and just keep using that old bag instead to this day for a light setup. I’ve since bought a Think Tank sling about a year ago for a slightly heavier setup and it’s been great. But the last month I’ve kept amazon busy and want a small camera backpack for two cameras with lenses attached a Nikon ZF with 26mm 2.8and and OM5 with 17mm 1.2 equivalent 35mm. And a 75mm 1.8 equivalent 150mm equivalent m4/3 lens. A Fuji instax wide printer. Fuji instax wide camera. One flash. Two sets of batteries, carrying 3 each for the two systems. Portable battery charger. And that’s about it. We’ve been doing a lot more traveling around our state of Florida lately and a small backpack makes sense. Again it seems after so many tries with different companies Think Tank wins with the Retrospective 15 and that fantastic retro bag that doesn’t look like a camera bag.
the title of your video made it feel like you're reading my mind. traveling soon and can't figure out which lenses to bring. seems like most people say they always switch lenses waaay less than they think they will
Which ones are you thinking of bringing and where are you travelling too? I think pack as many lenses as you like but just bring one or two out each day. I ended up switching lenses only back at the hotel. Thanks for watching!
@@BokehTherapy tokyo and fujisan areas. I shoot aps-c and have the sigma 10-18, 18-50 and 56. was also thinking about purchasing the sigma 23mm while I was there because it's cheaper than home. because of aps-c they are pretty small, so yeah I should just limit what I bring out each day depending on where I'm going. the wide angle is pretty new to me though and I wanted to experiment with it in a big city.
The sigma APS-C lenses are all really small so everything should fit. Maybe take two lenses out each day so you don’t have too much choice? A wide and a Tele (prime or zoom) should cover it. Sounds like a great trip
@@BokehTherapy I had brought with me two primes (50 mm and 35mm) but I ended up only shooting landscapes so I was only using my 20-60 lens. It was certainly nicer only having the one lens
I’m going to Tokyo next month. Literally a lifetime dream vacation. I’m bringing a canon RP, 70-200mm f2.8 and the other lens is going to be the 80mm f2.0 I think
Yes Tokyo! That’s a lot of telephoto options, your photos will look really distinct from everyone else’s in a good way. Do you have any wide or standard lenses for everyday shooting?
My gear too! Better not to edit photos while on the move, though... especially on trains, since you could make yourself a mark (see Manny Ortiz recent video on how he got robbed)
One lens attached to body in one big compartment, other two lenses in the other compartment. The central divider folds over to create another small lens compartment, or you can use something like a tenba wrap to protect your lenses. I think I show how I pack the bag in the video (albeit at 2x speed)
I use the 7L wotancraft and agree it is the best street bag I have ever used (and I used them all😂). I carry A7CR , 24 2.5G, 50 2.5 G plus 90 Sigma I contemporary. All fits with ease . One lens on camera and two spare each side of central compartment. Love it
I am a sucker for a good 50mm - the 50mm f1.4 GM is my favourite lens of all time. The 35mm GM is more versatile though, especially when travelling with family or with friends in crowded areas. Image quality is about the same for both, which is to say excellent. Which do you prefer?
They match really well so I would say yes - for street and travel 35 and 50 cover most of your bases especially if you pair it with newer gen Sony bodies

I thought I was here for a simple bag review and you ended up providing so much more - thanks Jack! 🙏🏻
Thanks for watching!
This is more a review of how to compartmentalize our life than a camera bag. Brilliant.
Thanks for watching!
This was pure therapy for me. You are incredibly insightful and amazing at communicating concepts.

@@BokehTherapy I found the "this is japan" part sooo comforting.

@@BokehTherapy I think its as close as you can get to medium format, the 50 1.2 and 135 make a mighty combination!
Yes I still need to try the 135mm! I am saving my pennies for the 85mm GM refresh, hopefully later this year
It is Japan. And having lived there for several years it taught me to appreciate them all the more. Ve thankful.
Yes it is, I am heading back again soon!
Your presence in your video is winning, cause you are there, man. Thank you
I appreciate all the feedback - thank you! Inspires me to keep making videos, next one is on the Fujifilm X100V

What can you fit in it? I have an a7r5 and sony 20-70 or tamron 28-200mm. Do you know if it will fit. Looking for a 1-lens type of bag. Thanks.
For the A7R5 and one lens (20-70) I’d say go for the 7L, 10L if you want laptop storage too?
love this video, the images are amazing, love the photos you've posted!
