McCOOK LAKE, South Dakota - Catastrophic infrastructure damage in the area of McCook area along Penrose Drive where several homes have washed out, vehicle were washed way, and the road network collapsed.

As usual prayers have done nothing, year after year after year.
"prayers" are why many of us are in this mess. This is a sectarian divide and conquer thing that has been going on for 2000ish years, and always benefits the rich -- who have definitely caused climate change processes that led to this. Try a little science for a change if you want results, but with science you will actually have to change your ways if you expect real results.

Comparing the 'flood view' to the 'before view' on google earth 'street view' is mind boggling, Penrose Lane sticks north from the north end of McCook Lake and the view is north starting at the second houses on the lane... Very sobering.

Corp of Engineers and Emergency Services shit the bed on this one. This was the result of an intentional diversion of flood waters, but the residents were not warned it was coming and the berms were not constructed in time or properly. These people were not in the flood path until someone put them there.
So, these homes were flooded on purpose?

I have seen damage like this in other countries, but the first time I remember in the USA, this is McCook, SD, wow! That must have happened fast! I hope everyone is ok!
So many times I've taken that road when road cycling , felel bad for all those people's properties.

There is lots of flooding in SD. This right where SD, Iowa, and Nebraska come to a point. All of the SD water is draining here on its way to the Missouri river.
It rained 17 inches in 3 days in worthing, sd. Which is way north of mccook
There's absolutely no reason why anyone should have to suffer through this. The army corps of engineers still hasn't figured out how to regulate the dams.

My word, this is awful. Prayers to the good folk of South Dakota.
It's not just southeastern South Dakota, but also northwest Iowa and southern Minnesota (perhaps more further east, I'm not certain). Canton, SD recorded 19 inches of rain over a 4 day period. All of this water drains south to the Missouri river, so areas like this video are getting all those floodwaters.
Always with the "prayers for the victims" year after year after year. Wake up and get on board to help with climate change, because it's going to get much worse.
Thank goodness they have flood insurance , but they will never have it again , have relocate😮
According to a few articles I read many do not have flood insurance. Much of the McCook Lake area was delisted from the flood zone a few years ago after officials reviewed and updated a flood map. This water came in as a result of human mitigation efforts trying to save North Sioux City.
How would you know "they have flood insurance"?
