thats the paper you are using. I'd recommend some cardstock. you can get it pretty cheap at Sam's Club or the office store. otherwise, specific marker paper is an option!

If you want to know which one it is, it's the Daler Downey ebony Artist's sketchbook. I thought it would work fine since it's the thiccest paper I've ever owned and I feel so luxurious just using it since I'm so used to printer paper lol. Thanks for the advice though!! I'll be sure to purchase some cardstock. I thought I was just horrible at using them lmao, good to know that's not the case. I currently own some cardstock but it's the cheap kind that has this annoying gloss to it I dont like and smudges whenever I use any medium. I think I'll buy some new ones. Dad when she opens the pencil case on the inside it says I eat pencils ☺️ and the green streamers, when she’s taking them out she calls them green maggots.
I draw in my bed so i use a kneaded eraser so i don't get eraser shavings on my bed, but i also sharpen my pencils of my bed and leave pencil shavings on my bed..
Some tips and stuff I learned so far using pencils: The blending stump is supposed to be used with charcoal. With each B the graphite gets darker and softer. The pencils are used for hatching not blending. The black and white still lifes are very good practise for understanding the tone difference between colours. Anyways I really enjoy your videos I love listening to you while I'm drawing
Blending stumps can be used with pencils too, if the media is blendable u can use the stumps (I've used them with coloured pencils and pastels before). That said, some cheaper pencils won't blend, the lighter the pressure and the softer the lead (graphite) used then the better it blends. Just don't use the blending stump with too much pressure or it will burnish (make it shiny) instead...unless that's what you're going for. Hatching is just another/different method for adding shading to a piece, both techniques have their merits and drawbacks, it just really depends the look you're going for.
Anything Coffee yeah I totally agree you can use the mediums however you want. It's just that I was taught to find my method of hatching and not to smudge the pencil and since then I kinda get frustrated when I see people smudging pencils.

I love textured paper! I find it easier to use with pencils and it works great with paint! I find that plending with acrylic paint easier and when I had to move to a smooth paper it felt as though the pint was just getting absorbed by the paper and blending was so much more difficult. My exam portfolio was of my grandad so textured paper was great for getting skin texture with pencil. It allowed for it to feel real and older as my art teacher said
So in my digital art class, we're doing pop art but here's the twist: we use emojis to create portraits. This is inspired by Yung Jake, his art is so so frickn cool, I definitely recommend checking them out. But I totally think that you should make art using emojis Rin! Anyone else agree?

I freaking love stipple paper. It works awesome for layering oil pastels. The pencils are also great for adding your values when you're working in just graphite/carbon/charcoal. Starting your sketch out with the lighter/harder (H) pencils and then going back and adding the values with those darker/softer (B) pencils. You did an awesome job in working in values. It just takes time to accommodate to new and different media.

Yeah it is a Swan 🦢 the brand is called Stabilo. It’s a German company that focuses on stationery and art supplies, they make pretty good textmarker (my favourite ones are the pastel ones). I just realised how many good art supplies are produced in Germany.
Tbh, I really would've liked to see you go outside your comfort zone and draw a more realistic portrait or still life. The paper and pencils were clearly aimed at more traditional art, mechanical is always gonna come out on top when it comes to more stylised cartoon stuff.

I had no idea there existed water-soluble graphite pencils! The more you live, the more you learn, I guess. '-' I like using pencils to do first sketches precisely because you can't add too much detail with them, so you're not tempted to detail too much before you have a solid, nice base sketch. Then I switch to a 0.5 mechanical pencil as well, haha.
B pencils are softer pencils. I have 8 soft pencils. B,2B,3B,4B,5B,6B,7B and 8B. 8B is the softest one and I prefer working with it. It leaves very strong trail and it feels different than the 7B one (to me/in my opinion)

About the pencils waffles, I got a art box as well (the petite pack) and a different sketchbook came with it. The pencils worked really well on there.

roll them on your palm with gentle movements (good quality ones will be satisfying to watch)

I've watched your video for a few months now and I love them! I need to show your channel to my niece. She's 9, adores drawing and art. I give her big boxes of art supplies to try encourage her as much as possible. Now to start introducing art TH-camrs to give her more arty people to look up to 😊

I like using pencils to do first sketches precisely because you can't add too much detail with them, so you're not tempted to detail too much before you have a solid, nice base sketch. Then I switch to a 0.5 mechanical pencil as well, haha.

B pencils are softer pencils. I have 8 soft pencils. B,2B,3B,4B,5B,6B,7B and 8B. 8B is the softest one and I prefer working with it. It leaves very strong trail and it feels different than the 7B one (to me/in my opinion)
Rin you are such a great you tuber you like to conceit with all of your fans in the comets that It really sweet and I love when you do that because it makes people day and it make it feel like we are family and I love that.
