also make sure to remember that even if it says 320kbps does not mean it is, it can have been a lower bit rate but re-encoded to 320.. get something like Spek, the spectrum analyser.. 320.mp3 will reach 20khz.
Great video as ever, for deletes I usually update the comment with a unique word (I use naff), delete from RB then on my Mac search for naff and then select all and delete
Hey Chris! Was just about to write you and ask your opinion about the updated stems in rekordbox! I thought you would’ve done a video about it by now! Glad to see another video from you brother! You taught me a lot !
Latest Nuostems 3.1 video collected stems data across all major DJ stem products which indicates rekordbox 7.04 offers stems quality now about on par with Virtual DJ, DjayPro, Serato and Traktor
you can activate a second "track browser / list view" in recordbox either side by side or tob&bottom so you can drag and drop files from location to playlists etc..
Hey Chris, thank you very much for the video!! very usefull.I am subscribed to Substack, i can find the Library hunter Shortuct but not the Auto-Delete, where can i get it ?
Nice thing about being a programmer first and DJ second is that I can automate a lot of the processes of this. Don't want to pay for those deduplication tools? Write your own. Don't have a mac for the mac shortcut? Write your own. Anyone who deals with computers on a daily bases and has tedious tasks i urge you to at least learn some basic programming/scripting so you can automate your tasks.
I am windows user & i use virtual dj to delete playlist I just drag and drop Rekordbox playlist to vdj sidelist/playlist. select all tracks right click> file operations> delete Done.
I’m also a windows (and IOS) user who enjoys touchscreen devices and wish there were way more free tips and tools for windows based music library management on this channel!
I delete my files this way: first I will tag them in the ID3 metadata with a word that isn’t common or a composed word like “deleteme” or something like that. After that I just search in my music folder for that tag and delete everything. I always check I have the same number of tracks that I want to delete to make sure I’m not deleting something I don’t want to
Hey great video! Do you have a fix for the gazillion music genres that keep populating the genre pulldown menu? I wish mine would be a bit.... lighter. I'm sure you have come across this problem? Thanks for all the good hygene ideas for my collection.
the key thing to understand is a particular genre option will only appear in that list if at least 1 track is tagged it in your library. Easiest method is to set up intelligent playlist which pulls in the 'similar' unwanted genres then batch change them to a common label.
Thanks helpful. For me, I don't want to delete I want to Archive and move tracks out of my library and into a cloud folder. Apparently at some point RB would write back to the music file metadata updates made in RB, but that seems to no longer be the case. I've noted Archive on the Composer field and in some instances, I could search my music files for the Archive and it was great, not happening any longer. Is there a way to write the metadata from RB to files on my computer?
Anything more than a 2% allocation would be redundant and is something that most DJs need to understand the math in. I use a calculator or even better a spreadsheet in order find where the balance in the numbers lie.
Hi Chris, trying to use Library Hunter, after selecting the playlist file, the shortcut is then running for a few minutes before it says "There was a problem running the shortcut", it never even reaches the point of asking which folder to compare it to, any ideas?
imo remove the artist and title tags, just put the whole name of the song in the file name, its the way i do it and its the easiest way to organize in my opinion (also if some songs have symbols or text you cant use in the file name just put write the whole thing in the title, it will overwrite the file name) I also recommend using mp3tag and retag your tracks every time you grab new tracks. also recommend having a single folder for every track you wanna put in rekordbox, its way more convenient and will save you tons of time.
Bonus points if you work out what point in the video I got a cold 🤧
also make sure to remember that even if it says 320kbps does not mean it is, it can have been a lower bit rate but re-encoded to 320.. get something like Spek, the spectrum analyser.. 320.mp3 will reach 20khz.
also pro tip: FakinTheFunk analyses all tracks in your folder and shows which ones have a fake bitrate
You really are my favorite resource for truly amazing ways to manage RBX and create optimizations and efficiencies. Kudos
Thank you for the video Chris. For PC users, i recommend using musicbee that enables deleting files from the playlist directly.
Very useful Chris! Very much needed guide. And thanks for providing the shortcuts!
Hope they help!

Great hack!

why would you do this? just delete them from the rekordbox library, you're just doing the same thing with extra steps.
Deleting track from the rekordbox library doesn't delete the actual file in windows. It just deletes the track from RB database

Unless RB has a validated link to an actual file location I don't believe it would be able to write any metadata to it

Hi thanks for the tips! Although I signed up, I didn't receive a Welcome Email and no links to download your shortcuts
Check your spam - you def should have got it 👍🏼

Shame a lot of BP track genre's are mislabelled and have incorrect bpms.

hmm. Did you tick the option to allow processing of large amounts of data as mentioned in the vid? Also how big is the playlist?
@@ReallyChrisM yes, and 7k songs
@@DJmarshyUK give it a shot with a smaller playlist and see what happens

Mp3tag is solid. And +1 to single folder it makes life a lot easier
