Would love to see the sketch that follows this- it’s the continuation of his breaking of the 4th wall, and features the brilliant Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman.
Yes, the sketch is hilarious. Not only does he break the 4th wall, but the other actors in the skit don't know that he is about to break the 4th wall, they don't understand it, and they are very upset with him. Truly breaking the 4th wall, and truly hilarious.
"Do I really want to do a monologue?" "I really don't care, son." It's mostly in the delivery. The jokes are good but they must be sold in a certain way.
I miss him, no question was a people with the capacity of change us. I stay in here, Brazil, and don't have humorist so good. I know an arabic humorist, i laugh and I had so much fun, he talked about how Bush was responsible for the American tragedy.
SNL mainstage ...make any performer nervous ...deep breaths ...I remember the play, I was in ...deep breaths, before curtain time ...very exciting ...easy to get addicted to ...the, "Fix" of the stage :)))
Garry maybe tried to bunch a bit too much routine into the monologue, but a few of jokes started to land in the middle. I wish he had made a stronger narrative (about whether to monologue) and less neurotic rambling, but we would have none of GS's work without that neuroses.
I mean at least he is a professional with content. How many times has SNL had a host on that is a one hit wonder or known for 1 single thing they did on television and has to run the whole 5 minutes just talking about Hamilton?
The sweetest guy by all accounts. RIP Gary. You are missed.
"My brother had asthma." This is a rare reference to his brother, Barry, who died of cystic fibrosis when Garry was 10.
She's a flight attendant for FedEx killed me.
"...maybe take a few fast ones, maybe hit a couple back..." Brilliant.
Underrated. He should be mentioned with the Robin Williams, George Carlins, Richard Pryors etc.
George Carlin is responsible for Gary's start. He gave advice reading his 1st script.
You're insane, he's nowhere near their league
He is just so funny no matter what the subject matter! 😂
took the keyboard right outta my mouth
I see Garry, I click.
Amen
"I'm sure!!!"
There's a lost phrase.
Right. I'll bet. :D
A bit of that meta he did on The Gary Shandling Show.
Doing a monologue about what monologue to do
Yeah, but he did just reframe his normal stand up routine.
Yeah it's too meta for words and even rips off his old it's Gary Shandlings show
during the 2nd season of "it's garry shandling show", where he breaks the 4th wall constantly.
It was on the day you push the clocks ahead ; )

Sounds hilarious!

Hey now!
Never seen a monologue quite like that since.
BRILLIANT!
Thinking of Garry on the 5th anniversary of his death. Wish I could have met him.
He was so funny
We were both born on 11/29. Lol!
That suit is so timeless I can't even tell what decade this is 😆
@BC BC that wasn't exactly the time of Clapton but I can see some Devo in that suit LOL
The 80’s and its shoulders! Kkkkkk Evem T-shirts had shoulders like that.
i think he got this fashion tip from arsenio, who probably should have told him to not wear it all day before doing the monologue.
Jay Leno used to wear suits like that on Carson or Letterman in the 80s
Shandlings is pretty lame, Yo
An absolute legend!
By the way, the crowd sucked! …….
"Do I really want to do a monologue?"
"I really don't care, son."
It's mostly in the delivery. The jokes are good but they must be sold in a certain way.
Garry could and did do either. He wrote plenty of jokes that are great on paper.
Yes most definitely the joke sound better on paper
RIP
I only just found out who he was tonight I wish I knew him before he died. RIP Garry
So, watched The Larry Sanders show yet? I love Garry, but I had to stop around season 6 or so. Probably will get back to it, eventually.
where did you watch it? i really wanna watch can you please tell
Erald Ylli there are only 6 seasons of that show. But really good 6 seasons
I know how you feel. I knew about george carlin from the news of his demise.
I loved the Garry Shandling show
I miss him, no question was a people with the capacity of change us.

I know an arabic humorist, i laugh and I had so much fun, he talked about how Bush was responsible for the American tragedy.
When Gary said he was making love, I had to think a moment about what that means.
I cant remember.
"Just look at the dogs in the front yard." Ok mom, thanks.
Thank you Garry
spot on
I love the way he likes to break the fourth wall.
:) Whoa, he was saying "It's a whole thing" back then.
Didn’t know he did SNL.
Shandling is Duchovny's brother
2:17 New girl
Good lord look at those shoulder pads. The 80s were ridiculous.
i miss the 80s
Brazilian is funny but North American is good too.
I like Buddhist culture, I believe in behavior change especially in Mayana Buddhism
HEADLINE: “Shameless Narcissist Gets Comeuppance, Tries Buddhism to Cope. Fails.”
Ha Ha! 350k for a house was like a million dollar house today.
Hail Hydra.
SNL mainstage ...make any performer nervous ...deep breaths ...I remember the play, I was in ...deep breaths, before curtain time ...very exciting ...easy to get addicted to ...the, "Fix" of the stage :)))
Garry Shandling and John de Lancie... were brothers separated at birth.
It's just another "It's the Garry Shandling Show sketch".
GS's 1980s comedy 🎙 & delivery is a lot like Ellen Degeneres.
Only 23K views, just shameful.
if he was funny it might be different
This guy is all about me , me , me ... but what about me ?
And fa , so , la , ti , do ...
For $350K, that "view". lol Awesome.
crowd didn't like it.
The first unmonologue
All my friends are dead.
Hail Hydra!
Dead crowd
Got Milk
Not his best work.
Since when a SNL monologue has to be the best work of a comedian? That would actually be a red flag for any performer ...
Hail Hydra

The Apatow book is great, a great insight into Shandling. You'll see all the neurosis and whatnot.
Lorne Michaels wanted to make Gary host of the Tonight Show originally.
So basically Jerry Seinfeld is a copy of him and Larry David
No. Jerry has different and different style material. And you seem to forget a few years of show scripts.
@@sclogse1 Larry David's scripts you mean?
Man, I don't miss that goofy clothing style.
