I went through all my bookshelves two winters ago. I didn't count how many books but I estimated that I'd unhauled over 100 feet of books by stacked height. I let kids and grandkids take what they wanted, also a few friends went through them. I donated a big box to the library sale. And the rest I put into bags and cycled them into the back seat of my car. Then, ever since last summer, every time I happened to be in a different part of our nearby city, I'd go through the free little libraries. The last round of boxes I visited was just a few weeks ago, an errand got cancelled, and I had an entire afternoon free to go searching. It was one of my most successful trips and I finished off the last bag. The problem now is finding room for all the NEW-to-me books I've brought home. But it's SO MUCH FUN! And like you mentioned several times, it's risk free. If it turns out a book doesn't work out, you just put it back in the pile to swap again. I've noticed definite differences in book boxes depending on the neighborhood. Surprisingly, I have the least luck in the most expensive neighborhoods where it seems most of the reading is bodice rippers, westerns, Nicolas Sparks... Suburban areas are a mixed - some have lots of children's books (although I've found some very cool kids books), some have a variety of popular new books. The best neighborhood are the artsy, gardening, collegiate, upscale counter culture neighborhoods where I find the best obscure titles. (sorry for making my comment so long)
Congrats on your sponsorship, Girl!! Ngl, it’s bittersweet whenever a favorite channel grows big enough for sponsorship but I’m SO stoked for you!! You deserve it and earned it!! ❤️📚❤️📚
Thanks for give us the oportunity to see that little library's, we don't have them here in Uruguay 🇺🇾, you inspire me to make one in my front house. I really love your videos August!!
Your videos make my day and always seem to come at the most stressful times in my week. Thank you for sharing your unique perspective and your bookish interests with all of us
I laughed at your terror of Comic Sans, but I agree that eerily quiet suburb was creepy even if it had a good book selection. My habit is to trade a book at every stop, and I just keep trading until I am happy with all the books I get. I dig the idea of swapping the books around to spread the chance a book will find a reader. Sometimes I go with the genres in a LFL, but sometimes I think there needs to be more variety, so I will change things up.
This video was so cozy. Almost makes me miss living in the Midwest. I have that cool copy of The Lion The Whitch and The Wardrobe at my parents house in Minnesota!
I’d love to be lucky enough to find a Book of the Month book in the libraries that I visit regularly. No such luck….yet. I would have -so- taken the American Girl book! I’ve got an obsession with them. Especially the old-school covers.
The Scent Keeper has been on my radar for awhile now. I hope you enjoyed it! I'm in a middle-grade reading mood this year and I'm going back and reading all the ones I missed as a kid! Love the beautiful copies you found! (Side note- that old 70's cover of Lion Witch and the Wardrobe was TOTALLY the one I read in the 80's in school!)
I really enjoyed The Scent Keeper! There was such sensory detail and that’s one of my favorite things in books. And of course waterside settings. Another of my favorites!
I absolutely adore that you are doing this! We live in the same city, so I love seeing you explore all of the little libraries that I can visit as well!! Lots of love to you
I love this video, great finds! 😀 I found some beautiful old books and nice editions of classics in the free libraries, too. I love my little collection of those vintage books and notes in them 😍
I think the one where the owners came home wouldn't have minded seeing someone utilize the cute little free library... It feels good to see people taking and putting in.... I was putting in some books for one by me and I have a good view of it from my apartment. I always watch to see if any takes but as of late people keep knocking it down. sadly
Hi!! You tube suggested me your channel😁. There are very little free libreries here in Argentina. And some people leave broken books, totally don't understand them hahaha..thinking on starting one myself. Congrats on your sponsorship
YES do it again. Our city has few and far between of these little free libraries. I once found a totally emply one/....filled it, then the next day drove by & it was totally EMPTY~~ Someone must have had a used book store & wiped this one out for their store. I was angry. You certainly are lucky with all those around you. Jealous.
Very interesting that the second copy of the Lion the witch and the wardrobe says its book 1 in the chronicles of Narnia... but the magicians nephew is book 1. I wonder if the magicians nephew was a prequel written afterward and the series has since been rejigged to make LWW the second in the series. Im going to have to google this
If anyone cares, I was right. The magicians nephew was the 6th out of 7 written and has been moved to book 1 based on history of Narnia/sequence of events.
This was so lovely! So many great little free libraries! Siân ❤️ (oh I think you should have taken that lion the witch and the wardrobe psychedelic version!)
Okay also I have that same exact edition of the Narnia series! I work at an indie bookstore and boss gave me them for Christmas :-) I love the cover art!!!
I'm planning on getting rid a Nicolas Sparks book to a semi neighboring town's free little library. I know that there are at least 4 in my hometown 1 of them being literally being within walking distance.
Ahhhh I’ve been wanting to do this for a month now and just haven’t gotten around to it (truth is I want to build my own street library!), but you’ve given me so much inspiration now to do it 💛
Many of us want to erect a LFL and watch your video to see how they are decorated. So please show the LFL's setting, front, back and sides to see how they are painted, types of doors, hardware, which hardware rusts and which doesn't, add ons like benches, flower boxes, dog treat boxes.....we don't even really CARE what is in the boxes, just how they are constructed, whether they are weatherproof, etc. One you visited even had LED strip lighting and it would have helped a LOT to see where they put that, where they put the battery pack, etc. Thanks!
My brilliant friend is an amazing book! I've read three out of four. I'm kinda sad that you got rid of Persepollis, but happy for the person who is to take it. I love the idea of the free library but I kinda think that it wouldn't work in my country. I feel like people would take books without leaving book, take books that are in good condition to sell them or take all the good books and leave a lot of communist literature from the Yugoslavian era, that nobody wants. 😅
hi, cozy rosy reads! I want to share one book with you. "Kayan Kollyn- the Spiral of the Ellmott and Messenger of the Secret." a great fiction book of adventure, mystery, ART, ancient CRAFFARTT, and science. once you read it you really love it. the story speaks about all dimensions of life. awaiting the video on this book! and this video will definitely increase your subscribers, god bless you. and, we like your content! thanks for the recommendation.
