Brutal sounding car, one of my favorites. The only RS6 we’ve ever gotten in the states. I’d love the Avant, but the Sedan is the only option I have. Fantastic to drive, I’ll never forget the time I drove one.
Guys, this is a serious question. Can anyone answer me why these old V8s sound so different from the new ones? The C7 gen even with straight pipes doesn't sound anything as thrilling as that. This old V8 has more rumble in it, some deeper and lower tone than the new ones. Why is that?
Bro easy answer, co2 emmisions have constuctors restricting the exhausts, engines, ect thats why. Straight piped means the backboxes are just taken out but infront of that you still have like maybe 4 cats, resonators, filters and who knows what alse. The best era is gone my friend, welcome to the 21 century. It's only gonna get worse.

I did ask around a bit in the shop where they did my exhaust and they noticed it too and said it's easily distinguishable straight from the exhaust manifold, w/o any piping. So my bet is on the valve number and bore-stroke ratio. The old V8s were with 5 Valves per cylinder 40 in total and the newer ones are with 4 per cyl or 32 in total. Also the older engines used lower bore and higher stroke numbers which for sure would affect the sound. That will also explain why even my ancient 2.7 TT V6 sounds lower pitched and more mature (which it actually is considering the age) than the new one on the RS4. Again 1 more valve per cylinder the longer stroke. I know it's all about emission and economy but i think on the performance models they should go berserk on engine design and make a thirsty powerful engine that delivers not only monstrous power but also earth shattering rumble.
@@QuantumS1ngularity A lot of it is probably correct but again about the engine they can't go all out anymore I guess, also less valves ect is all about the emmisions, older cars are just so much better in every way, if youy have the money to buy a new rs6 like you have why not buy the older rs6, the v10 or maybe even b7 rs4 and supercharge it, go beserk on it yourself, if they won't do it do it yourself you know. a supercharged b7 rs4 with 620ich hp would be sick to and I appreciate such a car more the the new shit they come out with. Got like you said better sound, more soul to it, more satisfaction driving it. If I had your money i'd do that in an instant.
There are multiple factors but it all boils down to this: the more refined an engine gets, the less raw it sounds. Rules and regulations mean these days engines and drivetrains are all about efficiency and refinement. Hence you lose the brutalness of the sound.
