  • Kings Peak was a beast. On this hike, I climbed to the top of Utah's highest point in one day. I clocked in just shy of 27 miles with 4,400ft of elevation gain, but this area has a few variations to make the hike longer or shorter.

    Just got back and I was fortunate to run into a lady who told me to take the cutoff but stay low after the initial scramble. Turned out to be good advice and it took me straight to a creek.
    Great video. Kudos for doing it late in the year! Brrrr

    Looks like a good time of the year to do Kings Peak, especially if your looking to avoid the crowds.

    great video. I am planning to camp at dollar lake and do a 3 day 2 night trip to bag this peak and really enjoy the basin soon and it was nice to see what I'm up against!

    My father in law did this hike every year until he was 70. Now my sons and their cousins do it annually, sometimes in a day which is nuts.!. I’ve always wondered what it was like. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for sharing this one! Everyone I know has made this a 2 day similar to Mt of Holy Cross. I much prefer the long slogs with less weight then the overnight adventures. Glad you could share that a long day is doable.

    I ended up summiting this past July while hiking the 105 mile Highline Trail. This entire mountain range is absolutely incredible and I highly recommend checking more of it out. Great video as always!

    I hiked King’s the end of August and really enjoyed it! Your video does an excellent job of capturing the remoteness and beauty of King’s.

    We are all about hiking :) we always take some cordyceps mushroom & rhodiola rosea prior to hiking to open up the lungs and boost energy. Have a great one.

    Man, didn't think this could be done in a day. I remember doing this in scouts and we only made it to the base of the peak because there was a thunderstorm. It took us two days and was supposed to be 3 but we decided to hike back down in the dark. Hopefully going back this year!

    I just found your channel and have really enjoyed a couple of the videos! My wife and I got turned back right at the saddle where you hit the ridge by a thunderstorm a few years back. Need to get back out there and give it another go at some point! We did the 2 overnight camping option and there were tons of great spots to camp in the summer! I like the fall/winter option though.

      Fortunately for me, really not much more to tell. Besides it running in front of me and almost making me crap myself, nothing else to report. I got back to the car and set-up my tent and was EXTREMELY careful with food inside it (more than I usually am) and luckily never saw it again.

    Why do people refer to Kings as a 14er? Isn't the elevation ~13500'?

    Hi, im doing research before I do this hike myself with friends. Are you filming on IPhone? there are several times where you point left and say you are going right and vice versa. Is this just a mistake or is your camera mirrored like most IPhone cameras? If anyone can help I'll be really happy, I cant find any good maps to download to my gps.

      With filming I’m somewhere in the 2-3mph range, the lower the elevation the quicker I typically move.

    At 5:46 you pointed towards a geological feature you called "The Gully". Is that the actual name of what looks like a class 3 or 4 rock slide? I thought it was called "The Toilet Bowl". Am I mistaken, & how easy or difficult to climb is it?
    Thank you.

    • @TheVirtualSherpa
      @TheVirtualSherpa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gully is often used as a "shortcut" to get to that upper basin which is visible later in the video. Toilet Bowl sounds about right. From what I have read, its a loose mess but shouldn't exceed class 2. Having said that, unless its full of snow, I would avoid it like the plague. I sincerely doubt it will save you much time at all and even if it does, the risk of injury is so much higher ascending or descending that.

    • @jastelf8998
      @jastelf8998 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s commonly called “The Chute”. You really can’t go up it. It’s too steep and too loose of rock to climb. You’d just spin your wheels. I went down it once, and it did save some time, but you slide a lot of it and it’s a bit sketchy. If you lost your balance forward, it would be a long way before you stopped. Not all that much of a time saver either. Better to stick to Gunsight.
