This is a great video! I started training at 39 with AA...the most senior trainee in my class was 67! I flew for 21 years and retired 3 years ago after USAir came in and basically dismantled what was left of the AA brand. With it went AA scheduling/work rules that made me go from loving my job to dreading it. At that point it was no longer something I enjoyed- The last straw for me was being pushed back onto a rotating RSRV system after being off for years. I miss the job I had, not the one I left... That being said, if you have a passion for this industry and are healthy , age is not a barrier. Better to go for it and know vs never trying and always wondering 🙂
Wow! That really stinks that you had to leave. I know some of our bases are SO senior that 15 year attendants still sit reserve occasionally. I totally agree! gotta take the plunge!

You have inspired me to change careers and I’m 56! Thank you so much! Class is stressful but also interesting and fun! I’m doing well in class and am excited for graduation day! I just wanted to say thank you for this video. I was looking at crash pad videos and this was in the suggestions. I am 45 years old and currently going through the interview process. I had a group video interview with one of the "big 3", got my no thank you. I have a face to face in a couple of weeks with another of the "big 3". I have considered applying for one of the "low cost" carriers, but the Glassdoor reviews are terrible, however - I live in Dallas and they will be hiring and opening a Dallas base next year. If your airline opens their apps, it would be one of my top choices. My daughter who is 25 is also going through the process too.
You're welcome! I hope it was helpful and encouraging! Good luck and hang on there. A no today doesn't mean a no forever. Keep trying if it's really what you want!!

Ahhhh! I'm so happy to find your video! I'm 56 and have wondered if I'm too old. If an airline would hire me. I have worked as a content writer and content manager for the past several years, but I also worked as a server at a restaurant, and was a car share driver for a few years. In 2009-2012 I was a manager at a retail store. So hearing that having hospitality experience and customer service experience is more important is so great to hear! Thank you for making this video!!
@@MoxieMartha Thank you for your response and encouragement!! I've applied to a few regional airlines, not my first choice, but none of the larger airlines are hiring right now unless someone is bilingual in Hindi, Hebrew, Italian and a few others. Would you recommend starting at a regional or waiting for larger airlines when they are hiring? Thanks! And
Just watched this blog and appreciate the detail you provided! I’m 64 and wrapping up a sales career which included much travel. I’m considering applying for the Flight Attendant position, so your feedback was very encouraging. I’m in great health and the airline industry has always intrigued me. Looking forward to the next stage in my life! Thank you for sharing and safe travels!
Hi! New subscriber here. Airplanes have always fascinated me but I had never thought about that i could actually WORK on one until one of my brothers went through training a few years ago to become an airline mechanic. So I started looking at the FA career about the time this pandemic hit. I quickly learned that I have too much debt to make it on a beginner FA salary. Long story short, I’ll be 42 this summer. In early 2000’s I have put in over 13 years of EMS experience and I truly miss working with people one on one. So until that FA career door opens, it’s full throttle to becoming debt free so I can enjoy my retirement career without financial stress.
Hi everyone I'm sorry for my typos my keys are not functioning properly well I hope as long as people get the message that's what counts I'm not a bad speller I just try to help people
Yeah thanks for the response just want to let people out there know that are scared of their age to not be scared of their age. Age is just a number one job that does not discriminate against age is the airline industry. Whether you're 40 50 60 1070 it's not a big deal it's actually good we rely on people that are mature if you're in shaving can handle it it's good at 45 years old today is just a kid he blowing good shape these days some look better than young people in their twenties he doesn't matter it's just a number okay whoever is older and reading this don't be discouraged with your 50 or 60 40 or even 70 apply apply apply they will like you also women getting more attractive with age.
Sorry for my typos I'm talking into my phone I didn't realize it was that bad but as I said the older the better and this is coming from the inside older people are more reliable as opposed to younger people that might not know they want life it might have a boyfriend School other things when you work for airline that airline pretty much owns you and they want your undivided attention takes a dedicated person to be a flight attendant years ago would have been the end thing to hire pretty blonde bombshells but today after realizing the turnover rate and people being sent home from training we see a higher number of people that succeed that are in your 40s and 50s our oldest flight attendant is 85 years old so don't be discouraged. An older women especially get more attractive with age this whole thing about Young pretty flight attendants that's all a optical illusion true beauty is inside true beauty is a woman getting older a man becoming more distinguished looking both inside and out I'm sorry for the weird text I am using I am typing talking into my phone good luck everyone
You covered a lot of good points for people who are contemplating the career. I think I would have enjoyed your job years ago when I was young and maybe right out of college but too old and set in my ways to worry about a career change now!!
I have been looking for encouragement to apply. Came across your video. Thank you. I was a flight attendant in my early 20s for Pan Am. Am in my mid 50's and want to get out of teaching and go back to flying. I see so many comments here that so many did at my age. It's time to go for it!
I am considering a 2nd career as a FA. I’m a retired police officer, and now have a ‘bankers hours’ civilian job (still on the street though) at the PD. I would love to see a comparison video RE the difference- challenges, benefits- between a ‘banker hours’, 40hr/wk job vs. being a flight attendant. Thanks for this helpful video! I am about to be 51yo
This is great! We have a lot of retired law enforcement working with us. Thank you for the idea! I will start working on that. What kinds if things are you interested in, if you can think of anything specific. Also, thanks for watching! ❤️💛💙
Hey there I am on SWA 2399 BDL to TPA. The flight attendants loved me. I got them $25 visa cards and each a box of Godiva Chocolates. You guys are the best
Thank you. I have 25 years in education, and I always joke that I want to be a "substitute flight attendant" when I retire, although that's not even a thing! I am interested in pursuing it as a second career though.
Thank you. I finally found a video regarding age. I'm very active at 56. I'm blessed to have a great financial backup system. Therefore being a flight attendant makes sense for me. I need to work for an airline that has the best investment practice. Also, my older daughter lives in Tokyo, Japan.
Im a recruiter add 46 is young ... we look for anything... age is not a issue in face a 63 year old lady was hired and I see people inn there 50s alot.. we like responsible people who are not tied down
👠 until discrimination lawsuits put a stop to the discriminatory hiring process, an FA had to be young, thin, a nurse, and caucasion (you left that part out). What did half of these requirements have to do with SAFETY ??? - I have no idea! So much diversity these days (and this is awesome)!! Good luck and best wishes to all 🌸.
Thank you for this vlog! I will be 54 when I finally start my journey. How much importance do they put on having a college degree and do many get hired without one? I have a one-year certification behind me and working on an Associates.
Just watched your video. You explained the pros and cons very clear. Age discrimination is illegal, but we all know it happens. There are plenty of middle aged people that can, and want to work. Hope you did something good for your birthday. I met some friends on Tuesday, for a steak, on my birthday. Hit 61, and still working. I look forward to any new topics you come up with. Using an 80's band reference, does anybody walk in LA? Take care! 🤠🙀
Birthday was fun! I Went dancing with friends one night and dinner with family another night. I'd like to stop aging now, please. Happy birthday to you!! 🎂🤸
Thank You for clarifying that the original Flight Attendants were male. When I started in the mid 70's we were still called Airline Stewards and Stewardesses a much classier name for the Occupation than Flight Attendants ( sounds like someone who cleans the Lavs). I would Never put down our Careers, it is such an honor to serve the Traveling Public in both Service and more importantly Safety! Fly Safe
Commuter Clause: First can you only do this so many times? Probably for sure only so many times within a time period. Second I'm guessing it's not held against you as far as maybe points? Third I hope it's a great/has been a great birthday and will be a great year. Four FYI I have a tendency to go back and edit until it says as best as I can exactly what I wanted to say. Don't know how that shows up on your end. Till next time
There is not a 'limit' so to speak. But, you owe the company for whatever they have to pull. So if I get a trip pulled for the commuter clause they can add a trip to my board if needed, or you offer days off to pick up something. I've heard varying stories about how this plays out. I've used it twice but for reserve and was usually able to get there on the next day. I'm not sure why I never vlogged about it. 🤷♀️
I’m 63 ,a retired RN.I think I am too old to be considered for a flight attendant position. This though I’m cognitively intact,6 foot tall, 200 pounds ,and built like a bouncer.
Also I just want to mention I worked for TWA and American I started my career in 1987 I took a one year break and I was hired on with Southwest 4 years ago I'm now 56 years old I got hired easily at 52 I kind of feel like I was actually cut a break LOL
Well congrats for an excellent video and let me say that you definitely don’t look like your age,you still looking young and very pretty,I am 46 and I just was invited to a hiring event in Denver from Frontier,so, we’ll see 🤞🏼.
The first flight attendant was Ellen Church and she flew for the predecessor of United Airlines. At that time, they were hiring women who were nurses to help people feel safer. I'm not sure where you get the idea that the first flight attendants were men.
I always wanted to be a fa.too short! Marriage kids,divorce..finally became a flight attendant! Loved it! My daughter got flight privileges, flew to Hawaii a lot. She was in college! I flew as a fa for 18 yrs plus of retirement age, retired. Fly all over the world free! Rio in August!! Bette Nash retired a few yrs ago but she died a few months ago! 🙏🙏🙏✈️✈️✈️ Bette Nash!!❤❤❤
Thank you for this video. I have been teaching for a while and just turned 55. I'm thinking this might be a good time for a career change after a recent divorce and empty nest.
I am finishing up 36+ years in the Canadian Navy in next 1-1.5 years....looking for a new career at 57. Why not? My kids are grown. I will have a military pension......I would love to take advantage of travel for me and my husband.
QUESTION: If you speak a foreign language, are there airports that you would be more likely be assigned as a home base? (Japanese, Mandarin, Dutch, Italian, Hungarian)
Yes! It depends on what language and what airline. My airline only does Spanish language of destination flights. you would need to research the language of the destination for what you want to do.
I'm only watching half of this tonight as it's sort of late and this old one will need to be in bed before long. Maybe you will be addressing it. I think that if an older person - say 50s or 60s - a person who may not be in the position as long in order to see some of these dividends. They might go into it with different goals in mind other than huge salaries and or even set - not-on-reserve - schedules due to reserve years. Probably things like fulfilling a dream or a chance to do a little traveling would come into play more. That's the trouble with you young people. Good night...
I would work for an airline just for the love of working in the airline industry .I have a pension that I receive as a retired RN ,so finances would not be a problem.
I get that. It's a big step but just know that it's a long process and you'll have time to research and learn a lot before you ever actually start flying. Go for it! Best of luck!!
Thank you so much for this video I was saying to myself how did the airline industry start now you didn’t speak on that but you showed old history pictures which I appreciate it and I wouldn’t even be considered for flight attendant because you said they needed to be unmarried be registered nurses young skinny and pretty so I wouldn’t even be considered but I just got hired for ramp agent cargo agent and I’m going to give them two or three years and then transition almost close to me retiring I’m 35 at the moment I know it’s a short period but I really want to do fight attending and I wanna have something on my résumé that will kind of stick so when I do get picked and given a CJo it’ll help me out but thank you for this video also it scares me to apply for United American or delta because Airlines those in my opinion are the hardest to get with but I’m going to start working on my weight loss so I can be skinny working on practice questions and just doing research so that i’ll be well prepared when it’s time
Qantas Australian Fight Attendant are so old that sometimes I am afraid to ask them for assistance as look like they need assistance! Also they are so bored with the job ? Can’t provide any good service any more
Oof. That's tough. I don't know how that situation could be handled...I assume they go through yearly training to make sure they can do all the things. Hopefully they aren't just passing them through without having the ability to do all the safety procedures.
You can't even spell flight attendant. What's a "fight attendant," a MMA ring girl? 😂 Get over yourself. They aren't bored, just experienced. What do you consider "good service?" You sound like you want a 20-year-old ego-stroking girl to serve your chicken or beef. Get a gf and let us do our job...which is SAFETY and unfortunately at times, first aid and dealing with inflight emergencies.
I applied for a flight attendant position for US Air back in 2003-4 time frame after working 15 years in a supermarket. I wasn't called in for an interview and ended up working in Healthcare. I think you are too nice to be a teacher. Just kidding. ☺
Hi, Thanks for the video. I am 43 years old. Unfortunately I have to decide on quitting my job at a school to go & follow my dream as a FA or staying at 8-5 office job. I asked for 3 weeks unpaid days off to go to FA training but they denied it😒Schools end on June but the training starts next month😒What are your recommendations? It is worth the risk? I’m a single mother of a 21 years old daughter.
Well, that's a lot to consider. Would they give you your job back? Have you considered asking the airline if they would defer until a later date? I've heard some do that. I mean if it is a dream...will you regret not trying now? What if you don't get another offer for awhile? I would consider how you feel about all of these questions in your decision. Training is A LOT but you can absolutely DO IT! Let me know what you decide!!
There is no max age as far as I know. As long as a FA can complete the required tasks and passed recurrent training yearly I think they can work as long as they want.

Go for it!
Awesome!! So many are hiring right now! All the best! Let me know if you have questions.
@@MoxieMartha Thank you! I will definitely reach out with any questions.
Wow! Welcome! That's so cool. I can't wait to get the message that you are in process with an airline! Stay with it and it's totally worth it! 💙
@@MoxieMartha thank you!! 🙂
Hi everyone I'm sorry for my typos my keys are not functioning properly well I hope as long as people get the message that's what counts I'm not a bad speller I just try to help people
No worries!! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks. I’m 67 and still flying my 6-8 days a month
You're welcome?
Love seeing pretty mature flight attendants.
Cool!
It's a big change for sure. I totally understand it's not for everyone.
If my knees didn't hurt I probably would try it.
I have been looking for encouragement to apply. Came across your video. Thank you. I was a flight attendant in my early 20s for Pan Am. Am in my mid 50's and want to get out of teaching and go back to flying. I see so many comments here that so many did at my age. It's time to go for it!
Yay! Go for it!!
I remember when I listened to this video one year ago and..... In August 2023 I became a flight attendant at the age od 42😊
That's so great! I love to hear it! Who did you end up working for??

Yay!! Good luck! Let us know how it goes!!
Dont think your to old the main thing is that you enjoy it
💯! So true!

Wow! Please fly on my flights! I bet they were stoked!! 💙💛💗
Thanks for this information. 😊
You're welcome!!
Thank you. I have 25 years in education, and I always joke that I want to be a "substitute flight attendant" when I retire, although that's not even a thing! I am interested in pursuing it as a second career though.
Yes! It a great retirement career!
Thank you. I finally found a video regarding age. I'm very active at 56. I'm blessed to have a great financial backup system. Therefore being a flight attendant makes sense for me. I need to work for an airline that has the best investment practice. Also, my older daughter lives in Tokyo, Japan.
Awesome!! It sounds like you are set up to get flying!! Best of luck!
Thank you!!! I was very nervous about this. I have and F2F on Wednesday.

Oh wow! Was she still working?? That's impressive if so.

Still discrimination happening... But we continue to fight it.
Thank you for this vlog! I will be 54 when I finally start my journey. How much importance do they put on having a college degree and do many get hired without one? I have a one-year certification behind me and working on an Associates.
No!! They care more about life experience and customer service background. Congratulations!! 🎇

Awesome! I'm so glad you found it helpful. 💙

Thank you for this Blog. You have an amazing weekend. Ciao. 2022.
Same to you! Thanks for watching!
Fly Safe
Thank you!! 'Attendant' does sound a litle like bathroom monitors. I feel like that some days. lol Thank you!!
Commuter Clause:
First can you only do this so many times?
I thought you were about 40 when I started watching this video. I was really surprised when you said you were 46 when you started!!!
Ha! Thanks!!
I’m 63 ,a retired RN.I think I am too old to be considered for a flight attendant position. This though I’m cognitively intact,6 foot tall, 200 pounds ,and built like a bouncer.
My classmate was 61 in class!
I had someone older in my class, GO FOR IT...worst that can happen is they say no and you move on to the next airline.
Also I just want to mention I worked for TWA and American I started my career in 1987 I took a one year break and I was hired on with Southwest 4 years ago I'm now 56 years old I got hired easily at 52 I kind of feel like I was actually cut a break LOL
Nice!!
Happy belated birthday!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 I bet you can guess where I am!
Eeee! How's it going? Hang in there! can't wait to see you!!

Thank you so much!! Good luck!!
The first flight attendant was Ellen Church and she flew for the predecessor of United Airlines. At that time, they were hiring women who were nurses to help people feel safer. I'm not sure where you get the idea that the first flight attendants were men.

Singapore, Emirates, Air Philippines all 20-30 years old. All others I see older flight attendants.
They may still require an age limit there. I've not researched international airlines.
I love seeing you my friend
Happy day!! 🤸
I am finishing up 36+ years in the Canadian Navy in next 1-1.5 years....looking for a new career at 57. Why not? My kids are grown. I will have a military pension......I would love to take advantage of travel for me and my husband.
Oh absolutely!! There is a hiring lull right now but I think your timing might be perfect!!
I dont think so
I’m so mad at myself, I chickened out of interview with Southwest…..got scared about leaving my stable job
Totally understand. Maybe save for awhile so if you want to go for it again you have a little cushion. Hugs! 🤗
Very true...I won't have to awesome 401k I'd like but I'm trying. 😂 Thanks for calling me young...I think? 🤗
I would work for an airline just for the love of working in the airline industry .I have a pension that I receive as a retired RN ,so finances would not be a problem.
That's where I'm at. This is just a retirement plan. 🤗
How cool are you , god bless , much love

I get that. It's a big step but just know that it's a long process and you'll have time to research and learn a lot before you ever actually start flying. Go for it! Best of luck!!

Woo! Cheers!
Thank you so much for this video I was saying to myself how did the airline industry start now you didn’t speak on that but you showed old history pictures which I appreciate it and I wouldn’t even be considered for flight attendant because you said they needed to be unmarried be registered nurses young skinny and pretty so I wouldn’t even be considered but I just got hired for ramp agent cargo agent and I’m going to give them two or three years and then transition almost close to me retiring I’m 35 at the moment I know it’s a short period but I really want to do fight attending and I wanna have something on my résumé that will kind of stick so when I do get picked and given a CJo it’ll help me out but thank you for this video also it scares me to apply for United American or delta because Airlines those in my opinion are the hardest to get with but I’m going to start working on my weight loss so I can be skinny working on practice questions and just doing research so that i’ll be well prepared when it’s time
That's a great plan!! I know several internal employees who just switched. Best of luck on your path!!
@@MoxieMartha Thank you so much I appreciate it
Qantas Australian Fight Attendant are so old that sometimes I am afraid to ask them for assistance as look like they need assistance!
Hi, There nice to meet you!
Hi! Welcome!
I applied for a flight attendant position for US Air back in 2003-4 time frame after working 15 years in a supermarket. I wasn't called in for an interview and ended up working in Healthcare.
I think you are too nice to be a teacher. Just kidding. ☺
I loved teaching. The parents ruined it. 😂😂
@@MoxieMartha Thanks👍🏽🙏🏽💖
If you have experiences as FA, would Airlines likely to hire you even if you are over 50 yrs old?
@@shioriturner9197 Absolutely!! I know many people who started after 50 with NO experience. 🙌🏻
What is maximum age.
There is no max age as far as I know. As long as a FA can complete the required tasks and passed recurrent training yearly I think they can work as long as they want.
not to my country😁at my country max age to experience apply flight attendant is 30 years🤣🤣
