D&D Ambience - The Underdark

- The Underdark was the vast network of underground caverns and tunnels underneath the surface of Abeir-Toril. It was home to a host of evil beings driven deep into the caverns at the end of the age of demons.
The Underdark was not one giant cavern under Faerûn, but rather, many huge networks of caverns and caves. As a result, it was not always possible to travel from one end of the Underdark to the other. The Underdark was divided into several domains that were similar to continents of the world above. While it was possible to travel from one place to another within a domain, separate domains tended to have very few passages linking them.

this is perfect! i had originally planned on playing kinda creepy music but then realized my notes start the session off with "the underdark is eerily quiet." so this video works a lot better!
2 minutes in and I already know i'm putting this on a playlist. My party's just about to start Out of the Abyss. This will be perfect.

Ever since my gm brought us down into the underdark and the Dread Tunnels I have been deathly afraid of going anywhere near there again, both in and out of character. Keep in mind that essentually I was the only player there, the one other person being a temporary player while most all the characters were ghosted. In our game the Dread tunnels are connected to Nhilus the god of maddnes (ddont know if thats cannon) so seeing just how much this impacted me my gm has made it so my character has piqued nhiluses interest or something and if there was anything that Merain is truly afraid of it would be Nhilus and his influence.
This is so good for the Underdark, I play a Svirneblin so I spend A LOT of time down there with my party. We're currently working on taking down the Aboleth Sovereign. Scary stuff. We're almost down into Glass Pool.
I may not play DnD, but I must thank you for ambient videos like this! I'm an artist, and It's been so hard to find ambiance for worldbuilding. This fits perfectly!
Reading the first chapters of the first book in the Legend of Drizzt Do'Urden as I listen. Amidst these dark echoes and the howling of winds from the heat fissures my mind furnishes it with the bloody clashing of elves, the crackling of lightning bolts and the muffled screams of the murdered under dark sorcery.
As a drow main i came
I play Pathfinder, their equivalent is just called "The Darklands" but in the games I run I have homebrewed (?) it to be a specific name, no that name is not "Underdark" in case anyone is wondering. I have an NPC traveling with the party that way I feel like I'm actually playing instead of just running the game. The campaign takes place entirely in these vast and numerous caverns.
The darkness surrounds you. The darkness shrouds everything. Movement is apparent and the movement is dangerous. All around the walls are crushing, looming as if to threaten collapse. But this is the home, the dark, the warmth. This is still home, and you know you can't leave.
This is THE BEST source of ambience music for D&D. I just wish they were under 90 min long, so I could add to my discord playlist T_T

Hey, just found your channel today, and I gotta say thanks so much for the content that you provide! I can't wait to use some of these in a home campaign I've been running for about a year now, hopefully it will keep everyone on track and in character, and set the tone just right for the mess they've found themselves in.

Anyone who makes it through the Underdark must receive a permanent immunity to mind-effects like insanity. And there should be some deep crystal, Dark Heart, that no one knows what it does or even how to price it but extremely rare. And an enchanted blade of some sort.
My players have been tasked to go over to a neighboring nation to further out why the monarch has suddenly fallen silent and chaos is erupting all over that continent. Little do they know the city has been pretty much been collapsed into, the equivalent of the Underdark, the Hollow and should they then complete the explorations and everything that entails then I’m granting them immunity to all mind related effects and they all basically get the Haunted background effect from the horrors they’ve experienced

For the record, the Underdark is *not* originally from the Forgotten Realms. It began in Greyhawk, like so many other things in D&D that FR has tried to claim as its own. The Underdark properly belongs in every campaign setting.

Technically it began in Mystara in the pre-Greyhawk years but yes, Realms likes to think it started everything.

recently my party decided that the underdark would be a dandy place to venture into, there is nothing i could do to stop them and they got captured by drows very quickly ofc, the ambience paired with this music is really neat though so they have that at least while they are being dismembered by various creatures. (the party is level 9 and the suggested level for underdark for 5e is 12-14).

First campaign I was every in, first game even, was in the Underdark. It took the DM a whole year to kill my character, and that was purely by character's choice!

How fitting that essentially a Lolth soundscape would be requested on a soundscape for the home turf for the Drow.

theres any number of converters that will download the video or audio for you. just google youtube downloader. any of the first 5-10 links will work.
You work your way around the tunnels but each step is infected with anxiety. At any moment some demon could be ready to jump out or even just sitting there silently, waiting to take you to their chamber where they will extract you for life force as long as they can. Months, years for some... It all depends on how strong your mind is, or perhaps how tempered your heart.
