    Thank you so much for these episodes! I live watching the early days of soaps! I wasn't born til 1976. When I got older though, I was amazed at the stories, but didn't enjoy til late 80's. At least I came around during the final golden age.

      I was born in 1980 and became hooked (first on AMC in '89) as a kid, but became obsessed with finding old episodes as a teen, something that's become much easier now. It's just too bad that so many from the very first years of OLTL (and AMC) simply don't exist. The Paley TV museum in New York apparently has a colour 1969 episode of One Life with the Carla "passing" story and Gillian Spencer as Vicki/Nicki I need to see lol
      Glad you enjoy!

    I read that when Lilian Heyman was fired she was followed to her car after a day of filming at ABC Studios and was informed by Paul Rauch’s assistant that was her last day of work. What an insult for an original cast member:

    • @EricMontreal22
      @EricMontreal22  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, he really could be cruel. Agnes Nixon no longer had any rights to OLTL (though at some later times she would help consult--like during the Malone era) but she was so upset that she offered to bring Heyman and her character (and I think a couple of other characters?) over to her still new soap Loving. But Heyman wasn't interested, in part because she felt it was a big downgrade (understandably.)

    Holy $hit I never thought I'd see anything before 78 ! Amazing!! I heard everything was destroyed or recorded over. Also I cant believe I've never seen one single scene of victor lord before his character originally died on screen & I'd also love to see the arrival of Dorian. This is amazing though I'd love to see carla grays original story & og viki played by the original. I never knew erika was viki #3 until I got the 30th anniversary book.

      Some colour footage of Carla's story actually exists--a bit was used in a biography feature about Agnes Nixon, but who knows where it is.
      Up until 1971 ABC (which did "wipe" their soap opera video tapes as it was expensive, until midway through 1977 when Agnes Nixon, agreeing to make All My Children an hour made ABC agree to archive ALL their soaps) occasionally episodes would be save via black and white kinescope for particular reasons. I've posted five from 1970 from All My Children, but this is the only One Life to Live I've found, though the Paley Broadcast Museum has at least one more to watch--I'd love to see anything else available. Yeah he was VERY controlling of Vicki--raised her as a boy as he never had a son, and to take over his paper, but otherwise was very loving. It wasn't until the 80s that they wrote about him having a secret room where he had sex with Vicki's friend, etc--and then in the 90s we found out about the incest abuse with Vicki (which was written because by the 1990s we had discovered that multiple personalities almost only occurs from sexual abuse, not just a controlling parent). Which is funny because in 1988 when Vicki went to Heaven she saw her dad and was very happy to see him ol

    Joseph Gallison was a very good looking young Bill Matthews on Another World. Funny how names come to mind after 51 years. I don't think I watched this back in the day but it's good to see Victor Lord as a decent man rather than the monster the writers turned him into in later years. It's one of the great flaws of daytime drama how they rewrite history and destroy the entire premise of the genre, that being entertainment, not depression.

    In the 1980's when they did a Profile on Blacks On Soaps in Ebony Magazine, they talked about how things were slowly changing. This is a prime example of how Black Actors were there to listen to the White Actors problems. Sadie was a very wise lady. In The UK they gave an Honorary Award to Rudolph Walker who has been playing Patrick Trueman on Eastenders since 2001 and he is the longest running Black Soap Opera Actor in the UK.

      I love Trueman. It's true though--Carla had some story after her big reveal, and there were Frank and Nancy on All My Children, but no real soap supercouple until the 80s with Angie and Jesse. Still, I guess baby steps--Agnes Nixon mentioned when she created One Life to Live she was amazed that she could even write black characters--Proctor and Gamble when she wrote soaps for them only allowed them as maids and refused her idea to have a black woman and a white woman be roommates...

His TV Daughter Kat was played by Nia Long and that show had the Midas Touch for Casting African American Actors who would go on to work with Spike Lee, John Singleton and Tyler Perry. Jesse L. Martin, Giancarlo Esposito, Taye Diggs, Sharon Leal, and it's the only Soap Opera that had four Dreamgirl Alumni most notably Jennifer Holliday (The "Original" Effie On Broadway). As for Indian Actors we see them here and there but there's never been a successful Indian Actor/Actress on A US Soap.
