Great video and fault finding again. When I worked on the bench I was alway told ‘visual, voltages, clock’. With a visual fixing 80% of the problems. You’ve just proved it’s still just as valid today.

Indeed it is... and I have much better examples coming out...😉

Great job. Repairing a damaged lamp would be quite demanding, and I don’t think it would be a permanent solution. This can be a real lesson to those who have cracked lamps what will happen soon if they do not repair or replace the lamp! Great video! 👍

      > I don’t think it would be a permanent solution
And moreover - bad crack fix or whatever bad - which has an impact on the specification of the work of an element will be illegal (out of legal [manufacturer's/ country license] approval - so in some cases your insurance association would "have use" - in the event of a controversial accident - of course it depend on country and the type of situation, but its not worthy at all, to make it like - "cheap repair").
So replacing in this case its the best we can do.

Unusual to see you not repairing the unit, but I agree it was the correct decision when a replacement was available so cheaply. No point wasting hours of your time to save 30 quid. Thanks for sharing.

Makes sense to replace, not fix. Thanks for sharing.

Top fix Luis. Was a wise decision indeed to let go of the old cracked busted light unit and get another one. The previous owner of my Mk4 Golf managed to stop water ingress from happening on a cracked rear light using some red 3M reflective tape on it (still going strong) but it would not work on this design as the lens is too clear and the tape would look really awkward.

How do you remove the light cluster in the boot lid...?

Funny how I have nearly all the same problems, cracking, condensation, backup light not working. The ring seems to be working. The other thing is the bulb actually got hot enough to melt the casing that was holding it.

a bit of superglue would have sorted out the crack... hence why it's important to check your car for damage and repair QUICKLY! After that amount of water ingress, replacement was the only logical solution

      Difficult to say...
Check that voltage is reaching the lights, and diagnose it from there...
Poor contacts can cause similar issues...

Hi. Thank you for the video. Did the boot light start working after changing the rear lamp?. I ask because i have a passat station vagon from 2014 and the boot light stopped working. I measured the wires and looks like the ground is gone from the boot light. I changed the boot switch to a new one but still the same. Unfortunately i have no access to wiring diagram to see what is where :-(. 10x for the response and keep up the nice work. Have a great day.

Which light exactly is not working in the boot?
Thank you for watching and for your comment!

@@LMAutoRepairs i have only one square light in the back of the car situated on the interior of the roof. It is lighting the trunk (boot). It should light when i open the trunk. This is not the light of the back passengers. The trunk light is more to the back of the car, over the retractable trunk lid.

      OK...
So, that light is fed from:
12v from relay K130 (terminal 30), relay located in the body control module... by the looks of it...
From a 52 pins plug, and is pin 43 that powers that light...
Ground, comes from the comfort ecu... 18 pins plug (18p-a), pin 15... this goes through a connector on the right hand side of the boot, should be a 10 pin connector, and this wire should go through pin 8...
      Hope that helps...

@@LMAutoRepairs thank you for the response. With your information i think i know the issue. Is the 10 pol connector. Almost all of these cars have issue with the water pipe what feeds the trunk door windows washer. This pipe breaks at the flexible part and the washer fluid goes directly into this 10 pin connector on the right. I see water mark on the car interior lining exactly in the right up corner and it is blueish atain. i guess the contacts got washed and started to oxidize. Will take a look and give a response, maybe it helps others too.
