    the wobbling sound at the background is the sound of digitized spiral track. i guess the 3d printer was a cartesian machine so when you represent let's say a circle in discrete cartesian coordinates and unroll it to be linear, you will get a triangle-ish wave with wobbleing frequency. the pitch of the background noise will be highest at 45, 135, 225, 315 degrees and will drop down to zero at 0, 90, 180, 270 degrees. if youd use a polar 3d printer with the same resolution, that certain noise you're hearing right now wouldve been absent.

      no clue what you're talking about but you sound really smart so i'm gonna take your word for it

    • @BankruptGreek
      @BankruptGreek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@JAStudiospivotanimation I don't understand it either but a crude oversimplification would be, you are trying to make a circle from a rectangle printing machine (xyz) and the conversion from a circle to that makes the noise with specific characteristics like specific angles of the disk have the highest pitch noise and others have the lowest.

    • @jesusc2me
      @jesusc2me ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically he’s saying it’s a digitally automated machine using a digital manufacturing process to create music so there’s a bunch of noise since the machines step motion is lower def than the original recording. It’s all being computed as some mess of right angles.
      My big takeaway:
      Didn’t even know polar 3d printers existed

    • @omergezer6368
      @omergezer6368 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looking at the comment I made 5 years ago, I can say I was talking gibberish, sorry. At that time I preferred looking smart over conveying people information. The noise is the result of transforming discrete cartesian coordinates to polar coordinates. It's like rolling a square on it's corners like if it's a wheel. The car is gonna jump at each of four corners. In reality the (nearly)circular track is more like a pixelated circle, and while the needle tracks that circle, it bumps into corners of each pixels. When printed with a polar 3d printer, the track is not pixelated and is a continuous circle.

    I am impressed with the whole concept of a 3D-printed record, particularly since there are so few vinyl pressing plants in the world currently and there is an overwhelming demand for records at the moment which provides a window for 3D-printed records to become more common in the marketplace (provided they sound good).
    With some refinement and improvements, I could envision 3D-printed records becoming more mainstream for people to download an album to print on their own machines at home or to buy 3D-printed records made in front of them at retail kiosks, etc, but the sound has to be much, much better to rival a properly stamped record album.
    The experiment is very impressive indeed, but the sound quality is awful (for now, but it will improve), especially considering that aside from LP's and 45's (as well as EP records), I have 78's from the 30's and 40's that sound better than that 3D-printed record, but it is a very cool idea for sure.

    WOW -an amazing achievement - quite frankly to have sound quality coming out distinctively like that is wonderful from a 3D printed disc :) Obviously 3D printing is rapidly expanding at a huge pace and originally I would have been impressed if it would have printed properly at all, but because it can and that you've actually discovered a very clever method to reproduce the groove sounds you're trying to print from an actual sound file with full RIAA equalisation, I really do look forward to the next phase of the project with the next generation of 3D printers. Ignore the trolls, you're doing great :D

    I wonder what would happen if you printed it on a 2018 printer. The Ender 3 $200 printer can achieve print qualities comparable to the expensive ones of 2013, so I'm curious if the noise that almost sounds like a printer itself is running in the background will disappear.

    You shall not use hill and dale recording if you are gonna play it on a standart record player, if your stylus moves up and down instead of side to side you will need to rewire your pickup for that as it is done to play old Edison disks.
    If making thin grooves is a problem, then you could try making a 78 RPM record, since the stylus to play them is thicker.
    This is a great project indeed, apart from making records, maybe in the future it will be also be able to fix scratches and bumps on records of historical value.

    It looks like the end result came with way too much lower frequency sounds and very little higher frequency sound. If you design a slope where you get rid of the most of lower frequency sound, for example starting by eliminating 90% of 20 hz, 85% of 60hz, 70% of 1 khz, 50% of 8 khz and just going up perfectly until you eliminate 0% of 44 khz and then slightly raise the recording volume of the piece (unless there isn't an issue with volume and distorting noise isn't introduced as a result of the volume increase) then you might get a perfectly high quality sounding recorded 3D piece of record. The end result here is to regulate the lower frequency sound which obviously is way out of proportion than the higher frequency by reducing way more lower frequencies than higher frequencies in an attempt to equalize it reasonably.
