It's impressive how Barlow can manage her voice, down and low, high and loud...I mean, we know he is a professional, but i can't hear him without feeling the power.
I listen to metal since 1988 and cannot remember such a stellar scream rendition live. Even the greats like Dickinson, Halford and Tate tone it down a bit compared to the studio recording since they have to do the whole show but here it is the opposite. He literally blew away Greely studio performance.
it would have all the american inbred country metal shit bands they already do have xD i am kinda happy americunts dont listen to metal. i woudl hate metal if these posers listened to it
i always try to add a little bit of truth to the mix xD We have this shitty "metal' fest here in columbus called "rock on the range". it started pretty cool with megadeth and misfit type music, but now its litterally country rock , skater/emo shit, and trendies. I wanted to go see bullet for my valentine, but that was the heaviest band there and no way in fuckin hell was i gonna give my money to those other bands who would take 90% the cut from BFMV and me have to wait all day ina crowded joint , 3000 ft back from the stage just to see one slightly heavy but now sold out band xD.. Liek fuckin almost $100 a ticket per day was starting price, it was really trendy so it sold out fast too, to scalpers
@@hulksmashhumans5766 My point exactly, that's all American metal fests are nowadays. Europe has so much more diversity and appreciation that it makes people like us envious.
I agree with you!! I hated most of the bands that played on Ozzfest back in the late 90's- early 2000's. I wish there were bands like Gamma Ray, Helloween, Primal Fear, Masterplan, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, and Iced Earth on Ozzfest all those years. These are true METAL bands to me, not that Numetal crap that did get played on Ozzfest. Ozzy could have been a true hero and brought back real Heavy Metal if had these bands on his festival back then. These bands could have been huge here in the states.

@@Aymungoos They took audio from both days and mixed it together, but they also recorded over a lot of parts in the studio to cover some of the more "live" parts. They've talked about this a lot, but also you can see footage that aired on TV of the same show and it's very different sounding. Not saying they tricked anyone or anything, it's an amazing album, but they did punch a lot of it up in the studio.
Oh damn you, Schaffer... I've been playing to the first 2,5 minutes of this song on my guitar and I've learned to master the intro - but that was the album versions... Coming here to watch the beast live version and I have no chances at the inro :/
If Jon felt that troy couldn't cut the mustard im sure he would have been fired a long time ago. the fact he's still in the band means jon feels hes a worthy guitar player.
+lexmarks567 I never get why he kept Troy on board. he is a fine guitarist, but it's too obvious that he simply cannot play the more technical parts that his predecessors did -It's just so annoying :/
Matt Barlow at the age of 29 (Alive in Athens) already was a Metal God, played in Wacken Open Air, made legendary albums like Burnt Offerings, The Dark Saga and Something Wicked This Way Comes. And the guy talking about Stu range, man, i can tell you. Dante's Inferno Intro played live sucks because he can't manage the low range, and when he goes high (the examples i named before) he uses a lot of falsetto, in a lame form. Sorry, but Stu Block is not the Metal God you think, @jamesbond1231
I can pick as fast as him and yes its a combination of wrist and finger movement. Stormrider was the first album i ever learned front to back, in and out.
@xmetalbassx I bet we'd hate it if Schaeffer tried singing... and let's face it, he's basically a tribute artist to Steve Harris. Maiden fans find this material very comforting and familiar.
IE's weakness has always been their lead guitarists. Troy Seele is OK, but imagine what they could do with someone like Marty Friedman or Jeff Loomis or Michael Romeo.
Well the thing is Jon is the song writer and is basicly Iced Earth like Dave Mustaine is basicly Megadeth, Jon just get helping hands to play his songs, but i see your point though but all just Jon's lead being played by semi pro guitarists.
Nah depends on what songs we're talking about, Ripper certainly owns tracks like 10,000 strong. Barlow owns stuff like Watching Over Me, which imo is one of their best songs. Now as far as people "high" no, as a matter of fact it's not. Barlow's range is lower pitched for power metal. I like his voice he's a great singer with good virato and exellent emotion.
Stu does a decent job on this song, but Matt Barlow does it much better. Iced Earth did Travel In Stygian with Stu on the Incorruptible tour last year.
Believe it or not I've grown to like this song more than Dante's Inferno. Sure one is longer and more technical but this song has way more emotion than the other. Plus it's more of a rager than Dante's Inferno.

No wonder he's Hetfield's son. Figuratively.

I really ❤ Smedley, Lombardo and Lopez from Opeth. Great drummers
Matt is amazing! He sings so accurately and ranges from depths of an abyss, to ear tearing shrieks... What a great vocalist and a soul.
HOLY SHIT MATT BARLOW!
he reminds me of the undertaker for some reason
Who needs coffee in the morning when you can play this song on your way to work.
indeed
I don't drikn caffeeine, I listen to metal

One of, if not the best, singers and bands I have ever heard live.
Then you missing alot :) They are great , but nothing campared next to Iron Maiden , Judas Priest
The riffs in this song are amazing!
Iced Earth is the best!!!
5:35 and onwards is the reason I fucking LOVE Matt Barlow. That buildup and delivery is amazing.
His vocals are so fucking metal. It's the best live perfomance ever.
the right hand work on rhythm guitars is simply amazing - I don't know how many hours I spent trying to achieve this speed - and failing.
Same thing, practicing again and again..............
the drummer is a beast
Dam right that's Brent smedley
So is Schaffer.. practicing this song too often gave me rsi 😂
one of the greatest drummers
painfully underrated underappreciated
Portnoy

That guitar tone is just beautiful :')

my favorite iced earth song Travel in Stygian
Amazing build up, atmosphere and lyrics! Jon’s right hand is killer!
One of the best songs by this band. Still so epic after all these years!
yep, top 5
I know little to nothing about heavy metal but isn't this drummer just fucking INSANE
