Great tutorial! You could get the same selection much quicker using one radial. Thats what really makes this a quicker method because you are targeting luminance values. Create one radial mask, then erase the darker parts you dont want in the selection. Much quicker.
Maybe try holding down the option key (on Mac) when moving sliders. Will give a far more clear representation of the area being included / excluded.
