It's name even in 1883, was Krakatau. Evidently some educated 'IQ0,' '(what's new?), at the news desk of 'The Times' in London, decided to make the name more 'easily pronounced by their readers. Since then the name 'Krakatoa,' has been in common usage. It's new prominence is called 'Anak Krakatau!
Anak Krakatau periodically erupts in vulcanian explosive eruptions hurling massive blocks about 5 km in to the air.
The 1883 explosive eruption created the present submarine caldera. There is an excellent, well researched book 'The Day the World Exploded Krakatoa,' by Simon Winchester. It contains a lot of information that nany of you seem to not know!
You didn't. The new Krakatau is exactly like the old one in magma chamber, potential, and viscosity. Otherwise the recent eruption of Hunga Tunga Hunga Ha-apai should now also attach an Anak before that name now.

Volcanoes produce sulfur dioxide, a global *coolant.* The larger the eruption, the more likely a "volcanic winter" will result. So if anything, Anak Krakatau should get a sweet tax credit.
@@DianaDeLuna Yeah atmospheric Carbon is plant food and it's bad but Sulfur is good because it ruins global cereal crops we all depend on, also global cooling is 100000X worse then warming. In fact there's no negative effects of a warming planet compared to a cooling one, Adapt2030

There’s no ice or water to cause super heated steam at the crater to create a pyroclastic flow, if lava reached the sea it would create laze.

That was because of an explosive eruption, it effectively detonated wiping the itself off the face of the earth. It wasn’t a pyroclastic flow.

Not very big because I barely heard a thing.
how far away were they did they live?
This event, I think was actually what started the chain of events leading to the collapse of the underwater flank of Anak Krakatau. In the following month the eruptions got to a point it was belching so much lava the whole island was glowing from it. This lateral eruption was the start of the flank movement. 7 weeks later or so, the volcano had added so much mass to the island in so little time it just subsided and this was all ..just gone..
