Is there evidence to suggest that a standard short peripheral intravenous catheter is safe to stay longer than 3 days if inserted under aseptic technique and with the use of a CHG dressing?

      Hi -
According to the FDA, 3M™ Tegaderm™ Chlorhexidine CHG I.V. Securement Dressings are safe and effective for use to cover, protect and secure intravascular catheters and percutaneous devices. They are also indicated to reduce CRBSI and catheter colonization for CVC and arterial catheters. The recommended dressing changes are at least every 7 days and sooner if loose, soiled, damp or bloody. For additional clinical evidence requests, please contact the 3M customer care line at 1-800-228-3957.
