Since its founding over 500 years ago the Wiener Sängerknaben (#ViennaBoysChoir), has been a fixed attraction in musical life. A number of important musicians have been connected with the famous choir. Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert, for example, have been members themselves. Not to forget about W.A. Mozart, who composed a lot of music for the choir. On January 27, 2006 - the day of the composer’s 250th anniversary, the Wiener Sängerknaben celebrate Mozart with this concert from the Stephansdom Vienna. The Radio Symphonieorchester Wien plays under the baton of Bertrand de Billy, the soloist is the French soprano Sandrine Piau.

Should any human be able to quite softly touch the surface of the limitless boundaries of the eternal, Mozart almost touched that reality. Lovely to hear Mozart sung in Vienna, by mostly Austrians...brings something special to it.
I think Mozart would be happy.
I actually think he would be much more happy to hear his music spread around the world and performed by many different people. Even though that calls for the ability to read the mind of a dead man... that’s what I think.

I thoroughly enjoyed this concert, but always find it a little disappointing when it is thought necessary to use an adult soprano, when, as shown here, there was a superb boy fully capable of performing the K339 Vespers. Please, when such talent is available, showcase it, for the benefit of the choral tradition. The Coronation Mass was brilliant.
If you’re talking about the boy who was the soloist for the Kyrie in the Coronation Mass, I have to say I strongly disagree! He swallowed his sound or something, bc it never got past his chin. If this is the best boy soprano the Vienna Boys Choir could produce at the time, they must have been really hurting!
I agree. I watched this video in anticipation of the Boy's Choir but the adults were featured more than the boys. This event was mislabled.
Die Wiener Sängerknaben Welche Talente, welche Weltklasse und sie gibt es schon so lange; nie von jemandem erreicht. Und was für ein schönes Konzert mit einem großartigen Orchester und großartigen Solisten!
Natürlich war das ein schönes Konzert!Aber es gibt schon Vergleichbares...so sind die Solisten in der Aufnahme der Tölzer schon sehr bemerkenswert....einfach mal reinhören...Zu entscheiden..welcher Chor der beste ist...ist sehr schwer...Thomaner...Kreuzchor..Windsbach er...Tölzer Regensburger....So finde ich meist den am besten..den ich grade höre...Wage es aber zu sagen...dass die Tölzer Solisten überragend singen....

Lovely singing, lovely playing! It’s funny to see the boys’ noses buried in their scores, though, instead of watching the conductor! I do often feel really sad when such a totally unappreciated genius goes begging in his lifetime, and dies ridiculously young in bad conditions, only to have him so richly appreciated later on.

So, the cathedrals in Europe have become concert halls now - disconcerting.
How sad. Admittedly this concert is beautiful but a concert for money, non the less. Performed in a cathedral built for the purpose of offering the immorial perpetual Holy Sacrifice of Christ. The Sacrifice that gives us Christs nourishing body. How shameful society has become.
The expenses of the musicians church staff heating the church and other things have to be paid for. I imagine any surplus I imagine would go to church funds . B

"Sancta Maria, Mater Dei" could be a bit slower, giving more space to pious sentiments and religious expressions.
This choir with original instruments orchestra would be illuminating. VBC is very staid, conservative. I guess their audiences are too.
The choir were serious on this occasion but at a normal concert they can be very full of fun and get up to all sorts of tricks. B
My only fear is Jesus Christ is behind them???? Is the Blessed Sacrament behind them?? This is sacrilege !!!
