      It's a great drink. I've found that if people don't quite like the bitterness, you can pull that back just a bit by subbing the campari for aperol. Nice little twist on it

      One of my all time favorite cocktails! I remember the first time I ordered one at a bar and it was a magical moment. I make them all the time now at home.

      Agreed 100% The bourbon is so much better to my palate than the gin in a negroni

    This is an excellent illustration of how changing one component in a cocktail can create a different drink! I built my bar partially by looking at what I had and seeing if there was a new drink I could make by adding just one or two new ingredients, be it a unique syrup, new liqueur, or base spirit. Frequently I unlocked several new drinks simultaneously!

    • @jellezegers
      @jellezegers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree! Building my array of bottles and therefore my drink library has been such a fun adventure :)

    • @dellh86
      @dellh86 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me, Campari was the big unlocker. I suddenly could make like 4 or 5 new drinks since I already had a decent personal bar put together

    • @teddydanielson4225
      @teddydanielson4225 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dellh86 same! I had gin, bourbon, and rum by the time I got a bottle of Campari. I remember my first boulevardier; it was a magical moment

    • @jellezegers
      @jellezegers ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dellh86 haha campari was quite some bottles ago for me, but definitely a delight! Also it keeps unlocking for tons of bottles I've gotten since

    Just an idea similar to this video: I think it would be awesome if you did a short series where you picked a country or region, i.e one video could be italy or France, and just basically do a crash course in cocktail history for that country, with a similar format to this video. Maybe a little more history, but just throw together 5 or 6 classic cocktails related to the particular region.

    I added a dash of orange Angostura bitters to my margarita recipe. It adds just a little more complexity and can cut the sweet and the sour. With this you could have left the bitters on the bar for the last cocktail. I enjoyed the morphing of one drink into another. Good template for a series.

    Nice trip! What I actually see is the Martini in the centre (the cocktails in the middle - 3 & 4), with the close relatives at the left (1 & 2, where whiskey replaces gin and we still have booze-only drinks), with more distant relatives on the right (5 & 6 are actually Daisies). This journey reminds me of the Cocktail Codex book, which sits next to me while I type this reply, which also teaches us there are (just) 6 fundamental recipes.
    And the fun is you can switch from one to another by replacing 1 or 2 components.
    Coming back to the video - 3-ingredients cocktails served up are my sweet spot, so thank you for the show!
