    I used to own one of these vehicles. In the user manual it tells you to take to a workshop to get bulbs replaced! How do they get away with that?
    Surely car manufacturers should be making bulb changes as simple as possible, taking into account that it is a legal requirement to have all fitted lights in working order?
    Governments should be making it illegal for manufacturers to do this.
    I managed to change my headlight bulb but what about folks who are not as technically minded as others?

    How many Renault dealers does it take to change a light bulb?
    1, but you have to take the battery out first! Ridiculous design

    After owning a Scenic II for 10 years and replacing bulbs twice a year, I manged to go from 30 minutes to just 3 minutes without removing anything. Anwyay, good video ;)

    So nice of them you don't have to remove the rear seat. Or reprogram the bumpers.

    Thank you, you just saved me hundreds of dollars! The first time I had to get the headlights replaced the mechanic told me they had to remove the whole front bumper and charged me two hours of labour.

    In my opinion you don't have to remove the battery. Removing the battery doesn't help, anyway the acces to the place where you have to put a bulb is very limitted. I've just right now changed the bulb without removing the battery!

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This was the first time I ever tried to touch my car by myself. I had the back luck the bulb was the left one, and I was afraid when I saw the battery thing. I checked and tried to fit my hands without taking it out, and decided to give it a go. I managed!! It wasn't even as hard as I expected. The step by step video helped. But I suggest you to try without taking the battery out. It is a bit tricky to do it. I had to get both my hands in since the bulb fitting didn't have enough cable to come out. And changing it with low visibility was tricky, but not too hard.

      I managed without, to take batery out, cables are pretty long. It was very easy. 1 min

  • @fu1r4

    Whatever you do, never use any tool on the positive battery when the negative is still connected. You ALWAYS remove the negative cable first and then the positive. When you connect the cables again you first connect the positive and last the negative! Look at 4:16 how close you are to create a short circuit.
    When will people learn to do it right ... 🤔
    If you don't know why, you should leave it to someone that know how to do it right!

    Just for the records to buy the right bulb beforehand, to have a good set of tools, and to know more about the fumbling in the dark: Take with you: a small flashlight, a small mirror, a medium size flat screwdriver, an 8mm spanner for the battery cover, new bulbs (see type below) and a glove, a small, clean cloth to wipe off the bulb from fingerprints, just in case. A smartphone with camera is a neat tool as well to see in the dark and take pictures before and after. It also can serve as a flashlight.
    First: remove the battery cover. It has two 8mm screws in the rear part, remove with a 8mm spanner small or ratchet. Then there is a clip between battery cover and front bumper - remove as well with a screw driver or pliers. Then take off the battery cover. Then remove the battery vent hose (clipped to the battery insulation cladding) and put aside. The battery can stay in the car if you have some extra care and/or small hands.
    *Low beam* - type *H7* (halogen lamps) or HID lamps (someone else: please add the correct type). To replace the H7: remove the inner rubber weather cover. It can stay in place in the top part. Then use the mirror and light to remember the position, eventually take a picture with a smartphone camera. Then reach down with your hand, remember the seating position of the lamp and socket, rotate the socket slightly (about 20 degrees) to get out the H7 bulb together with the socket, then separate the H7 bulb from the socket with a flat screwdriver (remember the correct position of the H7 in relation to the socket), remove the bulb, replace with the new H7 bulb, push new bulb in firmly, set in place, then rotate backwards about 20 degrees to reset the bulb. Put back the rubber weather cover, battery vent hose, battery cover.
    *High beam* - type *H1* . Remove battery cover, battery vent hose, outer rubber weather cover, remove the electrical connector from the bulb, push down the clamp and release to get out the H1 lamp, remember position. Then put back together.
    *Turn indicators:* you need *yellow PY21W* lamps. Grab the black fin/handle, remember position of the fin/handle, rotate slighty (needs some ellbow grease), pull out, replace bulb, put in, rotate back until it sets properly. Needs small hands.

    Be carefull when disconnecting the battery. Always disconnect the negative first! When disconnecting the positive first there is a risk that you touch metal parts in your car that are connected to the negative --> massive short circuit trough the key in your hand!

    Very helpful , thanks! I was able to swap the bulb without taking out the battery though, patience and a long flat screwdriver helps. It's shameful that Renault tell owners to take their car to a dealer for a headlight change!

      For what it's worth most of the content of the video is poor exaggeration and not factual. More based on ignorance than real experience changing a bulb...
      You can remove the battery, BUT you might choose to not do so and change the bulbs anyway!! What about that!
      About taking the car to the dealer anyone buying cars nowadays will be faced with similar expressions on their users manual. Go to your dealer for pretty much anything, beyond checking tire pressure... Renault is no different!

      It's a modern curse. All brands with compact cars on their line up suffer from these issues. If not for the bulbs, it's for some other component! Ever tried to change a bulb on a Fiat Punto or a Toyota Yaris or... it's the same drama with different tune.

  • @jontink1
    @jontink1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Start car. Put the steering on full right hand lock. Turn car off. Remove the 2 or 3 bolts at the bottom of the wheel liner where it meets the bumper and pull back. You should easily be able to change the bulb through that space

  • @MrAl8989
    @MrAl8989 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was also able to do this without taking the battery out. Taking the lightbulb out of the socket was tricky, I had to use a flathead screwdriver. Putting the bulb back in is also a bit tricky if you put your head in far enough you can see where it needs to sit. Just turn it clockwise in place and it should not move if you get it right

    Thank you for posting up the video. I decided to try to replace the bulb without taking off the battery and succeeded. I have quite big hands so have got quite a few grazes etc from forcing my hand in to do it! I wrapped the bulb until I was ready to fit it so as not to touch the glass and that was a bit fiddly. Anyways up, thanks again ;-)

    hello, i mean i just needed to see how to unclip the bulb from the wire harness because at this point i was afraid of breaking something. on the other hand I did not need to remove the battery and I find that the space is largely sufficient for this work, I had to put 15 minutes in all because I was not trying to break anything. I think that with a little skill you can do it easily without removing it. In any case, thank you very much because finding such a clean video for this kind of operation is very rare.

    I can only recommend that no one tries to replace their lamps themselves because it's just impossible. I've lost a few hours now trying to get the bulb socket back in, but it's indeed - impossible. Go to Renault if you want a bulb changed. It can't be done, which is a shame. You're not supposed to replace them and Renault made sure that no one can actually do it.

    • @crpth1
      @crpth1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In fact if you learn how to do it, it's a few minutes operation. No dealer involved, etc. Winning and complaining will not help you accomplish the task.
      Another example, on Toyota Yaris I can replace the main bulbs in under 2 minutes!! I know for sure that previous owner fought it back to the point of removing the head light units to acomplish the task. Which mean at least loosening the front bumper and a few more details!! Ouch! ;-)
