    Great job, incredible build. You may want to look into tin or pvc corrugated roof, color matched to your house as the asphalt tar roof contaminates the water which is not the best water for chicken to drink. You’ve given me ideas to lift my chicken tractor. Lots of work & sweat for chickens and eggs. Mine help me compost for my garden.

    This is a super fantastic build! I like the additions you added like making the feeder look like a smoke pipe and the buttons for your nesting box. I would say that spot they're digging in you might want to get one of those black feeder pans and fill it half with sand half with wood ash for dust baths-- they're trying to roll in dirt. :P Wood ash will help keep bugs off them but please check out different ratios for yourself to see what works best for you and your birds!

      Safe for a predator to get in how it’s all just stapled . Unsafe for the birds to walk on dig around roll over or be pounced on getting staved by rebar that dirt was dug up by scratching chickens . I left a long list of nots but don’t think any criticism will be taken or taken kindly

    • @michaelstlouis2472

      Your right chickens don't go far, but dogs or other animals can get to them when out in the open. Lost all of my chickens to dogs. That is why I fenced in my yard. I was pissed to say the least. Have more now, won't happen again. 👍😁

Also you will find new solution to have a healthy flock. Thanks for showcasing the unique features such as the quick latch hood pins, very clean design.

    It might never be an issue, but it is not recommended to attract wild birds to where you are keeping chickens. Just in case they spread bird flu to your flock..

    That coop is really cool. I might suggest putting a 1x4 slat across the front of the nesting box so the eggs don't roll out. Mine was built like that. And, for the flyers, it is easy to clip their wings to keep them from flying. Some breed fly more than others. It is easy to do as there are some good youtube videos. I was able to do it by myself holding them upside down by the feet and a good pair of kitchen scissors. Good luck. My last chicken just died three nights ago at 13 1/2 years of age. I had chickens for 21 delightful years. When they molted, I would give them a can of unsalted, water packed tuna fish, non fat cottage cheese, low ash dry cat food and freeze dried meal worms or black fly larvae that I soaked over night. Not every day, like two or three days a week. They need a bit of extra protein when they are regrowing the feathers. And perhaps make a dust bath basin for them to bathe in. I always would put a handful of diatomaceous earth in the dust to help control mites. That will last for three or four months without having to replenish it. You can find it at Wilco.or Coastal Farm and Ranch.

    You did a great job! Your chickens are safe and living in comfort and style 🎉I love that it matches your home.
    A suggestion from me is.
    PLEASE remove the bird feeder, you don’t want to encourage wild birds to hang around your chickens they spread disease including Avian Flu and Newcastle diseases as well as parasites. Cross contamination is dangerous because chickens host salmonella, it kills song birds .
    I also put hand sanitizers on my coop, I did not realize how important bio security is when raising chickens until I actually picked up my chickens from a breeder and I witness all the precautions they took.
    Your family will enjoy watching them preach around I love to watch the roll around and flip dirt all over, if they don’t have access to a good amount of soft dirt you can supplement it, dirt bathing hilarious and pretty vital to their health😆 they are a lot of fun, I don’t know if you hand feed them but when they play keep away I laugh and laugh. You have some safe happy birds enjoy!!

    lower window causes a draft directly on the birds, very bad. I would seal up that window with plexi glass and make a new vent up along the top.

  • @PrinceCbass
    @PrinceCbass หลายเดือนก่อน

    The chickens can eat the straw and it can cause issues. The pieces can be too long and too rigid keeping them from swallowing it completely. Wood chips are better, more absorbent for moisture and smell. Looks great.

  • @jeanetteiacovone1958
    @jeanetteiacovone1958 ปีที่แล้ว

    Once they start laying eggs you need to switch to a layer pellet you should be able to get that crushed also, as they need more vitamins and you also needs to have crushed oyster shell available at all times… they do not eat much of it and it lasts a long time but you have to have that for them and you need to also have grit for them. You can feed them grass clippings and they love it, but no fertilizer unless it’s organic and then make sure you don’t give the grass to them until it’s melted into the ground or if you use a liquid one wait a week and till a good rain or a few watering. Your coop is awesome! Don’t put up a bird house as the feeder will deter any birds from nesting in it but you could do a hummingbird feeder but that has got to be cleaned everyday!

    • @Oregonchicken
      @Oregonchicken  ปีที่แล้ว

      I moved the bird house;)
      We are on our last bag of grower. We are switching to layer feed after this bag. We’ve been giving them grit, but no shells yet. I’ll start that when we switch feeds. I give them dried mil worms and cannabis clippings for treats. Thanks for the tips! Coop is working out great so far and is proving itself against critters.

    I love the use of your yard space. The coop is cute and unique! Will your birds be free ranging when larger or will you add more run space? I dont believe the space under the coop will be large enough for 8 birds once they are full grown if they are standard sized.
    Also, I love the colors of your coop! Do you know what the names of the colors are? Thank you

    • @Oregonchicken
      @Oregonchicken  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Not sure on the colors. It’s behr ultra and the number for the siding is 4017. The darker trim paint label is covered so I can’t read that one. The chickens have 4 square foot each on the upper level, and 4 square foot on the lower level totaling 8 square foot for each bird. They also have access outside via the door, which I believe makes them “free range”. Anyway they don’t seem cramped by any means and get to roam around the yard a few times a week. We’re getting eggs everyday now too;)

    Nice coop. But what's going to keep the rain from washing down the slop and into your run underneath the coop? O and are you worried about the contaminants coming of the roof shingles in there water?

    • @Oregonchicken
      @Oregonchicken  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The slope is full of rock and roots from that stump you see in the vid. It’s pretty solid. But yeah I might have to knock it back and build a retaining wall at some point. It’s crossed my mind. As far as water, it’s outside. Might be good to wash it out;). Everything is wet here in the winter. It’ll probably be the driest spot in the backyard.
      Not sure about the water getting contaminated. I hosed it off really well. Drained the pipes ect. I was more worried about the glue I used on the pipe. All seems well so far. All the sediments that collect will not go to the waterers. The buckets act like a sump. And because it moves so slow, it should collect a lot. 🤷‍♂️ I’ve seen other coops collecting rain water. Thanks for the comments!

  • @FVWhimsy2010

I used 1/2” pvc pipe and associated threaded fittings. As far as keeping this from freezing, I have plans to add a recycle heating system at some point. Ill make a video for that.
