The Bothas have a long history in SA! Right or wrong they were statesmen and do bear a lot of responsibility for much of the good and much of the bad in Apartheid SAFrica

They tried multiple times to make it a fifth province and for all intensive purposes was treated like a fifth province since WW2, however the UN refused to allow them to annex SWA/Namibia and declared their occupation of the area illegal in 1966.
