It's not scamming. It's dishonest but it's basically a bunch of kids fighting for rares and someone goes up and is like, "I borrowed this from you want it back?" And they think it's some dumb luck and someone is giving them free stuff
I suggest to maybe try social experiments a different way cause something similar happened to my bud and she was so confused. Someone might also just think they have bad memory lol 😅

I once had someone try scam me my forest boots this was ages ago but they wanted to offer and their offer wasnt good so i said "no thank you sorry" and then they switched and was like "let me try them on please" and i was like "no sorry" and then they said "well they were mine and i want them back you took them" and i was like "no i didnt i traded for them" so they said "yea you traded me for them and now i want them back" so i said "okay give me my items back" and they said "what items were they" so i said "gold drag, blackout and camis frog" they said "well i dont have those they on my alt but you can just give me them back and ill trd you off my alt" which obvs was a scam and so i reported them immediately
No, it isn't, ya'll just made the game about it and now its ruined with everyone caring about rare items over socializing, playing games and collecting the stuff you actually like. A lot of it has became toxic, but the older people who played classic and the came back to play wild knows this already as we went through it on Classic for many years, the game became stale and everyone would fight about trades constantly. :(
