      Unfortunately, I don't have platinum preppy in my collection :( I have heard their fine nibs, but everytime it has been out of stock, when I'm ordering fountain pen stuff.

      If you want to, you can buy the Platinum Plaisir and swap nib with the Preppy. I've done it myself on all my Plaisirs. Except one, in that I have the fiber nib.

      The preppy is great. Want a dressy version the plaisiar has a metal body, and the nibs are interchangable

    Western EF nibs are not EF but at best M. Sailor has amazing EF and F nibs, but it is a very expensive brand.

      agreed. this is a ridiculous trend just like everythign related to fountain pens. idk why they have this idea nowadays all fp should be extra "wet" (inky), broad, oversized and overpriced "luxury item", when it's just a pen.... EF 70 years ago in the west was more like what they still call ef in the east than what we see today.

    I use a Pilot Pluminix with an extra fine nib it's a hairline thin writer.
    It also writes upside down its so fine on Tomoe river paper you need a magnifying glass to read it!
    Tomoe or Clairfontaine paper is best for extra fine nibs.

    Great comparison! I too love EF nibs and use only carbon black ink in all my fountain pens.
    The preppy 02 has also a great EF nib, it writes even smaller than my Falcon Elabo SEF.

    • @LanaGoesArt
      @LanaGoesArt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a really great nib, but Pilot uses it on their a little more expensive pens too. The price of the Preppy ist just so low because of the cheap body, not the nib.

    • @CyaneInkArt
      @CyaneInkArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only platinum I have is #3776 century with UEF nib. I don't have any preppys, but I have heard they have good nibs. Also platinum desk pen has extra fine nib that is really fine.

    • @LanaGoesArt
      @LanaGoesArt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had two preppys, but one of them broke in the middle. The nibs are great, but the body isn't. I use the one I have left for inks, that I want to use, but don't use constantly in a pen or not that much.

    • @CyaneInkArt
      @CyaneInkArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @LanaGoesArt

  • @k.p.6905

    Great idea for this video. Just a nitpick, for a more visually fair comparison, all the inks should be black :)

    • @CyaneInkArt
      @CyaneInkArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, it would be more accurate that way. But it would have take me months to prep for video, so that all pens would have black ink. And probably I would have run out of black ink at that point :D piston fillers takes forever to be empty and they also fill quite much of ink. Like my twsbi eco have had same fill over 6 months now.

      @CyaneInkArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have Lamy 2000, but I would say pilot F. Lamys EF are thick and there it lot of variance between them. Pilot makes consistent nibs and their F is really fine already.

    HI, i am seeking a fountain pen that can handle Spencerian or ornate calligraphy, particularly one whose feed can keep up with large gestural movements and embellishments. The nib i am seeking is a pointed one not a broad edge like the Lamy Joy. I have tried TWSBI ECO, Noodler's Ahab(terrible pen), Pilot Prera, Monteverde Artista Crystal Fountain Pen, but nothing seems to nib able to keep up in the same way that an actual dip pointed pen will. Any recommendations, the cheaper the better. i just need to see if there is a tool that can keep up without having the expense of buying and trying.

    • @CyaneInkArt
      @CyaneInkArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is really hard to find. Closes that comes to my mind is pilot falcon with spencerian modification (out of box it does not have enough variation). Or vintage flex. But they are not cheap options. Usually flex nibs are special and that makes them expensive. There is even some pens that have dip pen nib in fountain pen, but those tend to not work well. (Flow issues). Custom nibs could be option as well, but those are really pricey. I'm sorry that I haven't any solid suggestions for you.

      Yes, it is Lamy original nib. Don't worry about your pen being fake, I tested several Lamy EF nibs at their flagship store and some of them where so wide! There is pretty large inconsistency in Lamy EF nibs. Some are more like F nibs.

      Hi Benwick,
      Welcome to the fountain pen community.
      I would suggest a FABER CASTELL LOOM EF Nib, Pilot PENMANSHIP EF Nib, Platinum Plaisir EF Nib, and Online EF Nib.
      Western Europe Jowo, Bock nib makers EF Nib write like a F nib (0.4 mm line width).
      Pilot /Platinum F nibs writes (0.4mm line width ) and EF Nibs writes (0.3 mm line width). But keep in mind that since the nib is so thin, the feedback /feel on the writing experience might be too tactile on paper where you know you are writing on Paper. Platinum ultra extra fine nibs have line width of (0.2 mm) in their Preppy / Prefonte models. But Platinum is famous for a hint of tactile feedback but not scratchy.
      Montegrappa EF Nib writes really smooth and thin like a Japanese EF Nib but then you are spending 180 US dollars or more. If you don't mind spending 150-250 US dollars, you can get pilot EF Nibs with smooth gold nibs with really thin lines.
      Be safe and well during the pandemic
