My dad works here and I got to meet her one day when I was little, just after she had passed. She is actually really sweet and genuine in real life. I even got a hug from her and my dad got an autograph. Honestly, from what it used to be like, I think the campaign has definitely helped. I know numerous drivers at stagecoach, having worked with my dad a lot (mostly voluntary work when raising money for macmillan cancer support with them) , and I now know so many female drivers since she did this. Trust me this is not an easy job, I've seen it first hand and if she did it, it just goes to show anyone can too
Yvonne is so sweet. She was one of my dad's work colleagues and close friends. I've met her do many times amd she was always so kind. Her partner also worked here and he did photography on the side so he took all these amazing photos for one of my birthday parties when I was young
When I was the MD of a London bus company we advertised on the buses 'Quality drivers wanted' and actively recruited women drivers. One lady who worked for The Telegraph, saw the ad, then applied, trained, and became a really good driver! One of many.
As an ex engineer with London Transport and Stagecoach, with 34 years service I wish this young woman all the best. Her real test will certainly come when shes driving a bus in service. Perhaps she'll purchase some rose tinted specs. Bet she won't like it. The Stagecoach drivers who serve routes in my area, are under the cosh and these people belt about like race track drivers. Of course this is not their fault. They are undoubtedly under great pressure to cover their mileage. I do feel sorry for them all. As for myself, I resigned from my engineering job, because of constant bullying and bad language from a certain director from Manchester. I certainly wouldn't recommend this company, I'm mighty glad I got out when I did. Regards to Yvonne, who I knew as a bus driver, she was a good lass. 👍
Less than 10% off bus drivers are women because women aren't lining up to be bus drivers. Well done to ferne for passing her test but the only thing that needs to change it the attitude that thinks " because there is under representations for women in certain career roles, then it must mean oppression " we should start thinking " the reason why women are under representated in career roles is Choice" we need to stop playing into the hands of those meaning to divide us. Companies like Stage coach probably recieve unfair demands from media, local government and feminists to adopt these quoter protocols.
