"The fact that it's mostly children in Yesterland explains all the amusements here. But happy as they seem, it's hard to think about their lives before this. For if the form of an Endless reflects their happiest self, it means they died before they grew up, or grew up to find no greater happiness." Erenville at the turning off of Yesterland. I'm wondering if Kyle understood what Erenville said, because it's immensely sad.

Or even worse, were unable to reckognize that they did. Namikka was 'stuck' in what she thought her happiest moment was when she was raising Wuk Lamat. Until she reckognized the older Wuk and realized that a life fully lived and seeing her little Lamati'yi having come into her own was even better.

God, I love the idea of G'raha (a person who has been to aether school) just standing there listening to Val and Tuna (by all accounts an astrology hobbyist and a murder hobo) arguing about whether eating the popcorn made of aether is morally correct or not because it might have been made of people and then deciding that eating the popcorn is actually a heroic act because it will be cleansed by digestion and returned to the lifestream via pooping with a completely expressionless face.

Cahciua and Erenville's relationship here may seem distant and cold to most but I got a different read because I see my own relationship with my mom reflected in them.
Being reserved and introverted like Erenville, my mom has never chided me for needing to take things at my own pace, to have space to process things until I'm ready to open up. She's always been patient with me despite expressing my love differently than other people, and she's always been ready to meet me on the level I'm comfortable with even if, if she had things her own way, she'd drown me in all the love she has to give every second of the day. Being understood this intimately is one of the greatest expressions of love my mom could ever give me, and I think Cahciua is doing the same for her son here.
Knowing he has a lot to process about this entire situation, I think she's giving him ample space to sort out his feelings while still expressing love more subtly from a distance with little comments like how happy it makes her to see him traveling with others, coming out of his shell, etc. until he's ready to open up.

Having this final zone be the antithesis to Endwalker's was brutal, and having to systematically dismantle something designed to be comforting, leaving it cold and lifeless really messed me up for a while.

I'm a big fan of her climbing on the front spar of the ship and definitely not sea skick, only to get horribly sea sick in the very same cutscene and be sea sick from just thinking about travel by ship or boat from there on out. ^^

@Phyrefly6 that's why I always said that Wuk Lamat is not a bad character but she's is just so poorly written...
It's like they intentionally cramped more and more weaknesses into her to make her seem worse than her siblings, while ignoring what was previously written.
She was totally fine taking the ship to Sharlayan, as well as climbing all over the ship, but she becomes seasick upon reaching her hometown... From then on she has motion sickness for taking ANY form of vehicles, from ships and boat to airships and balloons. She basically became Natsu from Fairytail. Then to make it worst, for some strange reason, this succession journey needs us to return to town to rest after each trial instead of spending the night at the villages we visit, just so that we can have a cutscene of Wuk Lamat whining about taking the boat/balloon back. It's like conveniently ignoring how they explained that Aetheryte was set up for easier travel too.
Imagine if Yuna and her party has to go back to Besaid to sleep after each night of her pilgrimage...
Furthermore, she doesn't seem to know anything about the people in her home continent that she grew up in... nor does she seem to able to recognize things that are presented to her in her face until we pointed it out to her... it's just so frustrating written

Had to VOD the last half-hour or so…
But, when I played through this, I had to take each of the sections of Zone 6 on separate days simply because I was too emotional to just plow through it all in one go. Texted my bestie that I just couldn’t… it was so much for my little heart to handle. Sending hugs.

I loved how this zone could be seen as mirror/reversal of Ultima Thule, instead of reigniting a zone as we progress, we’re shutting down a zone as we progress.

I think the most interesting part of the zone is how after turning off the terminals all the plants are still there. This world was never rejoined and its not like the source didnt recover from calamity's before so its interesting to think theres a revived world out there even if every kingdom outside the barrier fell. Like i doubt we will see some overgrown Linblum or Burmecia as a dungeon or something but its interesting to think it could be a whole shard thats just plant life now.

When Wuk Lamat said "one day we will meet again" to Namikka, it made me wonder: What does happen to the aether of the people in Living Memory (or at least the ones originally from the Source), and what is it? Are their actual souls saved there, or just their memories, while the souls remained behind in the Source?
If it's the former, would that mean, that Namikka now goes into that reflection's lifestream and thus her soul will not meet up with Wuk, unless there's a full rejoining at some point?
And if it's the latter, could Namikka already be reincarnated into a new body? Would that soul have any of the old memories, or were the stolen away and transported to the other reflection, rather than being copies? Did this thing they did with the Endless somehow block her rebirth in the Source, accross shard-barriers, leaving her in a sort of holding pattern, until the servers in Living Memory were shut down?
5:34:00 "Mama, why is that elephant wearing a giant axe on it's back?"
With all the FF9 references, I'm surprised they didn't name her Garnet, instead of Sphene.

Yep, and the key is the PATIENCE to get there. If they didn't spend their time setting up, we wouldn't have the rewarding journey we end up with. It's like a lot of players have forgotten what it is to be part of a journey and let a story be told, which is sad.

I don't think Cachiua is a very good parent, but I also think her lack of "mother's instinct" is what makes her stand out more as a character. Especially since it doesn't make her a bad person, just flawed.

I unfortunately had to go to sleep before the end, so catching up in VODland, but I think the weird feelings you guys had when starting the zone was exactly the intended effect. You are meant to feel weird about being here and about what you need to do here because it looks perfect on the surface but it's built on extremely wrong foundations and as soon as you start to look closer at the details, the wrongness comes out. Catharsis is a good way to describe what I think many players felt here. The gondola scene with Raha is something I think most people can relate to a mlment in their life, and the whole area is a reflection on life, death, loss and moving on that echoes Endwalker but approaches it from a different direction.
I have my reservations with some parts of Dawntrail, because nothing is perfect, but I think this part would have been a lot less impactful without the seemingly slow start. All of us could find some things to relate to in this place. Endwalker was about how to move on from disaster on a cosmic scale, and this felt more intimate. How do you move on when your own personal world has crumbled? It' a question we are all faced with at some point.

The music of Living Memory is the perfect combination of nostalgia and whimsy. I still get choked up listening to it.
Also: all the love in the world to Garrett making it through a truly powerful emotional moment. Even if we didn't experience the exact same type of loss, we can all sympathize. Living Memory is evocative and, if you let it be, surprisingly cathartic. Still hurts like hell, though.

There's a Black Mirror episode that covers your discussion at 3:19:12. A woman uses AI to "revive" her boyfriend who was lost in a car accident. The AI recreates him based only on his online presence (Social Media, Emails, comments on websites etc). It's super good, I think it's in the first season. Really cemented my thoughts on how afraid I am of AI trying to impersonate people, and AI in general (On top of all the insane, little to no regulation crap AI companies are doing today).

A thought I've had about Sphene: I don't think even if they DID talk to her about the cycle of death and rebirth it would have consoled her or made her think twice...Because to this being, who was made via memories, THAT is what she cherishes. She loves the living but I think to her that is just the prelude to where they truly belong; in that place where memories are given eternal life.
We learned that only very VERY deeply engraved memories survive the trip to the sea. So why would she be happy with that? To her, that's worse than her living subjects dying, because what made them THEM aka their memories are what she sees as the essence of what makes a person a person and she doesn't want ANY of her people to become forgotten.
I think the crux of this thinking, though, was her benevolence. She embraced any as her subjects, and that caused the ratio of people dying and moving up to this place against those who are living and using souls to become unbalanced. Now there isn't enough Aether to sustain everyone, especially after Zoral basically cleared out the FC chest as it were.
She knows this has grown beyond her ability to control, but her encoded desire to save them all has driven her to think that this is the only recourse. Kinda like the Peacemakers in ShB; they were encoded to protect the people of that world, and their conclusion was that to do so they had to kill humanity itself. It's ass backwards, but that's computer thinking for ya.

      @joshuarendleman7297 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

I mean the important thing to tell her is actually she's attacking the wrong reality. We learned in endwalker that if the source is destroyed so go the reflections. Thus if she eats all the aether from the source that could very well destroy her reflection.

My feelings on this section of the MSQ were very much in line with Garrett's...until the Namikka scene didn't land with me at all. I also agree with Kyle that they introduce such a complex web of worldbuilding...but it just doesn't hold up to critical thinking beyond the very specific examples they walk you through, and is certainly wasted on Wuk Lamat being the moral equivalent of a blunt instrument.
I left Canal Town wondering why on earth Endless Cahciua would greet her 'son' separated for 30 years by joking that she was happiest before he was born, and concluded that the writers hadn't put that much thought into it and just thought it a funny line.
The Alexandrian stuff feels like Kyle's concept of IPM gone haywire, ideas introduced and explored on a shallow surface level with no depth or examination of what they mean for the wider cast/world, as such, the world introduced in DT does not truly feel 'lived in'. The player can supply as many what ifs/abouts as they like, but they remain theoretical, and quite often show the flaws of the systems rather than any benefits, however fun and dark such an exploration is.
As an example: the Endless are literally soulless AI generated predictions based on recorded memories, coming at the cost of your place in the cycle of rebirth AND fueled by the deaths of other people. You could absolutely tell an amazing story about circumstances that would make this seem worth it, but instead it is simply explained away as 'scientists' and 'culture'.
It feels wrong to say, but I do feel 'jealous' of the people that could get the emotional beats of the last zone, but it didn't have the foundation to support it for me personally.

Yet, now that there is a new realm to explore right in front of her, she's reduced to a door holder.l instead. because her screen time so far in this expansion has been very well used.

I mentioned this in the chat, but that little scene was one of the things that bugged me most in this expansion. It's not a big thing in the grand scheme of things, but I just find it stupid that when dividing into two groups, one of which is going to try and stop a world ending threat, and the other of which is trying to protect against a theoretical problem that is not nearly as dangerous, the later is the group we put more people in.
I know logically it was done this way because they simply wanted only those few characters in the last zone, but the way to do that is to not have everyone there in the first place. Doing it as they did just makes the characters look uncharacteristically stupid.
