Why be a programmer in Japan while you can earn more in your home country(especially devs from US)? I heard yen value dropped like a rock, and Japanese programmers already have lower income compared to western countries even before the yen drop.
Because not everyone is from a country or was able to stay in a country where the pay is decent OR there simply aren’t enough jobs to go around in said country.
It's true that moving to Japan isn't a financially wise decision if you're from the US, but there are other factors to consider apart from income. If things like well-designed cities, great public transportation, and public safety are more important to you than having a lot of money, Japan could be a good choice. Personally, I couldn't think of a single US city that I want to live in, so I moved to Tokyo.
As the last video of the day, I had a choice to watch n2 grammar video or this…you know what happened, the way the topic derails is just too good to skip 😜
Finally someone said it. I'm sick of hearing the "just get a degree and come over, teach English, find a job in IT". The English teaching market is completely saturated too. Companies arn't renewing contracts come renewal times and you have to move constantly, learning new bullshit curriculums and skills that are in no way transferable to IT.
Cheers mate. With the popularity of japan increasing it make even low paying jobs attractive for people around the world. But if you have 1. tech skills 2. decent Japanese you can really do well for yourself here. All the best
@@devippoI'm on the spouse visa with no degree or experience in tech. I'm now reaching into the N3 level, but I'm being realistic it's atleast another year or more before for me before N2 level. Should I A. Get the degree? Or B. Is there another route once you pass N2 level?
I should add I have "hobby" level skills, I'm no expert but I can do things: basic python skills, MERN ES5/6, Linux shell, compile kernel for RISCV to insert drivers. I'm guessing I should learn the stack you recommended and load it to my github. Do employers in Japan value GitHub the same way as the west?

the 1 ~ 2 years of language school is a very cheap investment if those high paid devs are serious with staying in Japan. if they dont even want to study the language then maybe they just want to stick around in here to get social media points
They want to stay in their bubble. I don't blame them. I wish I could go to a language school for a 1 year or 2. Social media points is all that matters.
I love your brtual honesty. It's refreshing, planning on going to a langauge school sometime next year. Then slowly making my move to actually move to Japan from the UK. It won't be easy but it's worth it as the UK is deterioating each year nowadays. Appreciate your view man, subbed and liked!
Cheers mate. Got a few of the lads here in tokyo saying how cooked the UK is. Might be a good time to get out. Once you can speak Japanese things get much easier here
It definitely is. I would say though not all language schools are built the same and some can very much be focused on just passing jlpt and/or rote-writing complex kanji words that may not be the best priority of the limited time you have. So definitely, people reading this, make sure the school you choose fit your needs. I say this as I am learning how to write 銃撃戦 for tomorrows test 😅
@@beauchifulbaby8145 Yeah, good advice. Best to talk to some people who went to the school before you drop a bunch of cash on it. That said, if you don't like it, it is possible to transfer to another school if you want to.
I also have a full beard, and I’m coming over next year to study Japanese and then look for work. Have you had any issues with applying to companies with your beard? I don’t particularly want to shave it (I’m happy to do everything else to fit in culturally - I lived in Japan for 3 years before and adapted to the culture ok) so I’m wondering if I’ll need to go clean shaven for when I’m job hunting or not.
Are the PHP jobs mostly for WordPress related work or is there a lot of demand for Laravel? In Canada, there's more work for RoR it seems than Laravel, but there's more jobs for regular PHP with WordPress. Anyway, thank you, your content is very informative.

Those from US tho, likely lack of jobs, interest in Japan overall, wanting change in lifestyle, or low cost of living
