Adrian Newey and the Red Bull Engineers know exactly what they're doing. They already have the 2025 car ready and by the time people copy the 2024 Red Bull, they will already have something better ready to go.
Like Mercedes said last year, The zero side pods wasnt the main problem with the car, it was just the easiest to see and blame. Their problem was with chassis control and the floor
Just to be clear because everyone seems to be massively surprised that the RB20 Is so different to the 19 red bull said last year they had only built an average car they could do so much better and they specifically said that the RB20 would not be an evolution of the 19 it would be a revolution and they clearly meant it
I do love how everyone is saying now RB is going the zero pod route when they're clearly not! there is still a huge amount of sidepod area! The only thing that different is the orientation of the radiator inlet! This has allowed them more freedom with the shape and size of the sidepod undercut as they are no longer constrained by having a fixed width and depth to take account of for the sidepod inlet. Mercedes' 'zeropod' philosophy was to have little to no horizontal surface (perpendicular to the road surface), whereas this has quite a lot! The only direct carry over (if you can call it that) from the w14 is those shoulder canons. I can only assume they are there to provide flow management and downwash to the beam wing as they appear to create a gulley similar to the 'bath tub' sidepods from the ferrari F1-75.
It’s a risky move but as you pointed they had an advantage in planning ahead of the RB20. Waiting for Bahrain and see how it goes, People do forget how the RB19 dominated, teams moving to that direction is a clear indicator that RB shouldn’t overlook. Expecting more competition this season.

If that is the case, then Red Bull will appear with even more dominance.
I mean i dont think it is surprising, they probably got close to its performance ceiling with its current concept so it makes sense for them to try something different to extract more performance
just as people missed what made the w11 so amazing (thinking it was DAS, but really it was the rear suspension) people are doing the same here, thinking the key is the front of the sidepod. at 4:36, you can see that redbull has managed to put 2 external vents, up from 1 last year. these are likely pulling air from inside the car, essentially blowing the diffuser, leading to more downforce and less drag since they can run less draggy wings and beam wings

can you imagine if red bull turn up with no side pods and still go a second a lap clear
Everyone has copied last years RB concept, then RB comes out with a brand new concept; That is the danger of copying; you’re always one development behind the team that you copied
But, but, but: "BIG updates coming for Merc next race!!!" - this is a recording
If anything, it looks that Red Bull has just developed another GG, WP car. If last year was already horrifying, watching Max going beast mode in this car could be well considered war crimes.
I have a bad feeling about this… I’m afraid they will destroy everything.
You mean you have a good feeling about this.
@@FrancisFjordCupola a bad feeling there won’t even be a fight
@@zippo5294 fia has to stop them...heck merc era was better
@@ShortnSweets2s FIA has to stop RB because there aerodynamics are better? That's fucking pathetic. Why punish anyone for doing better homework? Kinda goes against F1's DNA as well, since evolution, expirementing and vehicle development is a big part of F1.
Also Merc domination wasn't any better. Merc just had a OP engine for the most part.
@@josbakker1163 because they did the same for merc in 2020 with ban on das...
Looks good, but I think RB may eat it's tyres a bit, thought Mercedes was a gr8 concept but if think it's underfloor was wrong, that's where the problem lay....
Vertical side pods on the RB20 are just crazy
What vertical sidepods? 😂😂
Watch the video @@fingerprints2983
@@fingerprints2983inlets he means
I love how everyone is copying the RB19 while RBR uses solutions other teams dismissed as useless.
Stopping the video at 7:40 thank you very much
Yup
"Hey Mercedes, we understand your car better than you do!" -- Adrian Newey and RB. If the car is significantly faster than the MB, that will be demoralizing for MB.
We don’t know how good this car is going to be….but RB probably could have won races if they just ran the RB19 again this year 😂. Props to them for being bold and aggressive. I just wish some of the other teams cough cough Ferrari…would have been this aggressive.
To be fair Ferrar is
this vertical inlet is fake news, we have seen the sidepod intakes and they are horizontal this vertical shape is either a very slim s-duct like the ferrari of last year, a blended inlet like what we saw on the new alpine or just a patch of darker carbon. also that nose is obviously a vanity panel there is no driver cooling inlet in the nose and you can see the seam lines so expect the nose to change.
It looks gorgeous
Newey getting tired there's not enough innovation on the grid : "Fine, I'll do it myself"
Why does it has to go about Horner AGAIN? leave him alone and focus on the goddamn car..
Newey did his magic again! Hats off. I'm looking forward to reading development details and how it got this shape in his "How to build a Car" when the book got an update!
imma be honest - if you are saying amidst horner facing serious allegations, is it so hard to say immediately after that what the allegations are?
Sexual misconduct. There, I fixed it for you.
