I really enjoy watching Ms. Fleming teach. I think she really helps the students explore a lot of new territory in a short time. She is encouraging and complimentary, but also demands that they try new things and go new places with their voices. My favorite here was the tenor at 43:05. I really appreciate the generosity of the Eastman School in posting these!

Jordan Costa has a perfectly lovely tenor voice; an actual real tenore lirico---open, fresh.
You either have that or you don't. Many guys singing at the MET wish they had that beauty of tone...want to hear more...delightful.

Last piece is Rachmaninoff's "Ne poy, krasavitsa, pri mne". Рахманинов - "Не пой, красавица, при мне".

Let's get this over and done with before anyone else asks what 'song' that is: 1/ "Piangerò la sorte mia" (I bemoan my fate), Cleopatra's aria from Act III, Scene 1 of "Giulio Cesare" by George Frideric Handel sang by soprano Robin Steitz; 2/ "Ah, fuggi il traditor!" (Ah, the traitor flees!), Donna Elvira's aria from Act I, Scene III of "Don Giovanni" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart sang by Daniela Camilleri; 3/ from Act II of the opera "I Pagliacci" by Ruggiero Leoncavallo the aria of Beppe (in the role of Harlequin) "O Columbina, il tenero fido Arlecchin" (forgot to add, so here: O Colombina, your faithful, loving Arlecchino, the word 'colombina' meaning 'little dove' in Italian, btw), sang by Jordan Costa; 4/ Ne poi, krasavitsa, pri mne (Sing not, O lovely girl, in my presence), Op. 4 No. 4 with lyrics being a poem by Pushkin under the same title (written on or about June 12, 1828 to Anna Alexeevna Andro-Olenina who rejected him), music by Sergey Vassilievich Rachmaninov, performed by Ekaterina Gorlova. There. And here's the Lucciano mentioned by Renée (54:00), singing O Colombina with a fabulous 'a' vowel indeed: th-cam.com/video/cJaCLDV5MTY/w-d-xo.html the "senza tardar" she was discussing at 0:32-0:38.

thanks for posting this valuable material, so happy there is a tenor this time and he's so nice and totally open to try suggestions. Unlike the second girl who was a bit reluctant and sticked to what she had, I don't think she profited much from the class. The first girl's performance was breathtaking! Renee, amazing as always!!

I love the guy...he was so charming and has great potential, and I really like the last singer...that Rachmaninoff song was amazing. I didn't catch the name of it. Renee is so giving with her students...as said below, she knows how to encourage and praise coupled with criticism in just the right amounts. Some other master classes by other artists I have watched are brutal. I cannot stand the Horne Masterclasses.

The complete course of study in singing requieres from 5 to 10 years. You have to learn technique and develope vocal muscles and to wait for results patiently

You don’t need vibrato on quarter notes . Just sing them softly and effortlessly

Yeah, nerves will do that like she talked about with the first student. Imagine singing for someone of her caliber. I would be excited but also a nervous wreck.

When the 1st singer introduces her piece, she repeatedly keeps saying "umm".... a bad habit that needs to be eliminated.

Steven S she’s also singing in front of one of the world’s most distinguished sopranos. Let’s give her a break and attribute it to nerves.

Beautiful timbre of voice...needs more work on phrase entrance. She started to fast, rhythm was off. It felt like the song was " in works" and not yet polished.

i thought she sang beautifully and was very moved by her. Sitting on your couch, it’s easy to underestimate how incredibly difficult it is to do what the teacher is asking. i think she showed courage.
