I notice a lot of folks mention my band's lack of updates book, "boring", etc etc etc....put it this way, the difference between these new fancy cars with all these new amenities and those old school GMC, Fords, Chevys, etc is you'll always be spending all your money and time in the shop because the new stuff is always breaking down, malfunctioning and falling apart while that ol' school machine is still going strong as the day it left the lot. That's what my band's program is...super strong, reliable, easily recognizable, unbeatable..while other schools are playing all the newest songs and STILL can't seem to be able to hang with Cookman's 'old book'. So what's better, a new song that's sounding paper thin and thrown together or and older song that is oozing over with power, precision and professionalism? Quality over quantity young ones, quality over quantity.
As a rattler is natural for me to talk trash about the wildcats, although they didn't do anything spectacular what I love about this band is that they are going to give you great energy, marching, musicianship, and SOUND!!! And if they did update the book a lot of y'all still wouldn't like it because of their arrangement style, but that's what gives them their signature sound. From top to bottom the wildcats were the best band of the night, but I'll give A&T most entertaining
Coming from a matching wildcat, sudden impact 99-02, I have to agree with Freddy j hands down, but FAMU did set the tone years ago, then Southern, and now it's BC-U AND I'M PROUD SAY THAT. THE REASON WHY COOKMAN IS WERE THEY AT NOW IS BECAUSE OF NAYSAYERS LIKE Y'ALL. GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE. BUT REGARDLESS Y'ALL MOUTHS, COOKMAN ALWAYS GONNA SHOW UP, SHUT Y'ALL UP, SHOW OUT AND ALWAYS LEAVE Y'ALL WITH YOUR MOUTHS OPEN. we are the reason every band wants to sound like (quality togetherness), with precision.... PERIOD.
As a current Marching Wildcat, I started to understand a long time ago that people only hate you when you're on top. They only talk trash when you're the standard. These suppose "band experts" wanna talk shit about our book saying we play songs that are 10-20 years old, yet TxSU just did a show that was themed with 80s music. But I haven't seen any of you get on there and say the same thing about them that you're saying about us. But we love the hate. Keep it coming. It just lets us know that we're actually doing something...
xXPerryHotterXx you cant make that argument with txsu though. their show was THEMED for the 80s, while any other time their music is modernized. People can predict how bethunes shows will turn out 24/7 , 365. thats the issue that people have.
That baritone section tho....love the trumps, but dannnnng ....tuba, sousaphone , alto sax, even my fav cuz I played it ...french horn...is everything. @6:04 ...made that song come true. Did it justice ...so proud of these folks.
This band is really good, great sound, good precision and I love the drum majors too. Great energy over all. Oh yeah and the slow song by the isleys was hot.
It was a pleasure seeing Cookman live for the 1st time. in my opinion they were the best performance. A&T was great but I feel the theatrics took away from the band a bit. I appreciate A&T stepping out the box however I feel Cookman executed music fundamentals better. Me; along with most of the section I was sitting in, were applauding as Cookman hit us with that wall of sound, executed their drill to perfection, and showcased a vast knowledge of music dynamics. There wasn't a bad band at Honda. But no one was as sharp, on point, and clean as Cookman. In terms of everything mentioned, I think AAMU was the closest band but the drilling needed work. I agree Cookman can use a better book. I have followed them for years but just now got to see them live. I doubt that will prevent them from going to Honda next year for the 13th time.
Even though I wanted a little bit more from them I still think BCU put on a damn good show. Their sound, energy, precision is on 💯. I loved their dance routine. I really liked hearing them play "Spend The Night" and "400 Degreez."
The fact that people continue to say that they're predictable bothers me to an extent. There's a difference from being predictable and having a format to the show. If they were predictable the same show would be played on a continuous basis, but I guarantee you that half of the elements in this show you would not have been able to tell me that they would have done this. But if you feel that having a format makes you predictable then majority of the HBCU bands are predictable including Southern, JSU, FAMU, NCAT etc.
Jaron Williams exactly even when it came to the Honda sign people said cookman was predictable because they did it a couple years ago...did y'all REALLY predict that they would do the Honda sign?? Yet ppl eat it up when famu makes stick figures or southern makes arrows lol
Narasukedon I normally don't respond to stuff like this, because I was in the band when we made the Honda logo 5 years ago and the Falcon logo 6 years ago. But the predictable comments are just enough. Unless you could have told me from top to bottom what they was going to do with this show back in November I don't want to hear it.
Jaron Williams oh lol yea some of these ppl no matter what we do just hate to hate. They call for new music but as soon as we played 400 degreez they complained that our arrangements suck and I know they're just hating because little do they know that wasn't our normal arranger who wrote that one but smh no matter what they say they Cookman will continue to show up and show out
Stole?!?!!??.... Who wants to steal from a band who stole their name from FAMU just to have a name,? 101 Please, y'all never in any race. Especially that trash Bongo Bros, Btfol, Jones high in Orlando FL can hand them an ass whopping.
Bruh what are you talking about, I gave you guys your credit, but I also keep it real, the show was good but nothing about it was hall of fame. I said from top to bottom y'all were the best band that night, a&t just had a more entertaining/ creative show. I give credit where it's due and as far as sound, precision, and marching, bcu is on top right now. So go somewhere with all the cap locks lol
We will see what is said when the M100 of FAMU DECIDES to participate again....then we will have some real battles. Sounds clean but BCC has put on better shows. IJS.
What are you looking at? what Honda emblem!! it's the logo that's on the helmets of the NFL team Atlanta Falcons.... if you were watching the show and listen you would know, they were paying tribute to the Falcons and reaching the super bowl this 2017 year.... Smh

You sir need to look at towards the end of the performance. They played the Hotboys song out of that formation.
Maurice Jordan the line on the left was sloppy but you do realize this is 300+ people trying to come together to make a picture right lol it's not always going to be exactly right

Well said
So proud of all the HBCU bands.
1990 Cookman ROCK Tuba Player here... I played these same songs 27 Year's and the people still love it... I love it tooooo! Nothing is Changing!

Freddy J let's talk about that BORING ASS playbook. That is ridiculous
Dalion Casique Yeah but you know Wells ain't gonna let Bethune play anything new lol
Freddy J That's sad bruh....he needs to retire
Dalion Casique but I will say he knows how to run a program, book or no book the program is successful
As a current Marching Wildcat, I started to understand a long time ago that people only hate you when you're on top. They only talk trash when you're the standard. JGUTTER34 Yea man. We're gonna continue to do what we do. And if you don't like it, don't watch our shows. Simple as that...
xXPerryHotterXx you cant make that argument with txsu though. their show was THEMED for the 80s, while any other time their music is modernized. People can predict how bethunes shows will turn out 24/7 , 365. thats the issue that people have.
so true
It was a theme.......................... that's the difference but I like BCU and their 20 year old songs. Y'all sound amazing all the time! Good job
xXPerryHotterXx did this cat really jusy say bcu the standard of hbcu bands 😩😩😩😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 boy u funny Famu Set The Standard For All Band And Southern
I like how they went old school with their drum line movie feature during the dance line performance.
Straight smooth.
The ability of the musicians to play and dance like that is commendable.
Special individuals!
Awesome job Wildcats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love my HBCU.
lit!!!! Hail WILDCATS
That baritone section tho....love the trumps, but dannnnng ....tuba, sousaphone , alto sax, even my fav cuz I played it ...french horn...is everything. @6:04 ...made that song come true. Did it justice ...so proud of these folks.
Very glad i could be part of this on this past Saturday. GRET JOB!!!!
This band is really good, great sound, good precision and I love the drum majors too. Great energy over all. Oh yeah and the slow song by the isleys was hot.
BCU was exceptional!
SupervillainDW Yes They Was
That Fanfare was spot on... I don't watch Cookman much but I have to say I love that dark signature sound...
It was a pleasure seeing Cookman live for the 1st time. in my opinion they were the best performance. A&T was great but I feel the theatrics took away from the band a bit. Marcus Frazier City Forever my fellow knight. I'm sure I'll see the Wildcats again at Queen City.
That intro was bad ass
Even though I wanted a little bit more from them I still think BCU put on a damn good show. Their sound, energy, precision is on 💯. I loved their dance routine. I really liked hearing them play "Spend The Night" and "400 Degreez."
One thing I can say about BCU is their sound is always clean/crisp every yr.
I agree "Spend The Night" was a very nice touch.
I just wanna say I love the Marching Wildcats!!!

Jaron Williams I was agreeing with you lol
Narasukedon I know, I was just elaborating on how I felt
Jaron Williams oh lol yea some of these ppl no matter what we do just hate to hate. Bethune Cookman has the best band hands down!!!!
Just awesomeness
My highschool marching band still fly in our show
Every band head that was influenced by the movie "Drunline" probably got excited for the 14K piece! This show was lovely!
BCU should have been in the movie. They are better than some of those bands that were in the movie.
BCU,, Carry It,, #ILoveit
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BAND 😍😍

Sebastian Smith no one steals from scsu lol
Stole?!?!!??.... Who wants to steal from a band who stole their name from FAMU just to have a name,? 101 Please, y'all never in any race. Especially that trash Bongo Bros, Btfol, Jones high in Orlando FL can hand them an ass whopping.

There was no feeling...I gotta go with A and T on being the best that night
Who better Bethune cookman or fam u in band
MARQUAN BRYANT currently Cookman. I'm not sure if FAMU will ever get back to the old fam.
who won?
nobody "wins"... just people give their personal opinions on who won
THIS IS BETTER THAN HAVING ALEXA.
meca bands just don't d it for me but they clearly have quality players.
Leave spend the night to FAMU! 👎🏽
Ummmm Fuck ya.
We will see what is said when the M100 of FAMU DECIDES to participate again....then we will have some real battles. Sounds clean but BCC has put on better shows. IJS.
That Honda emblem is terrible......
What are you looking at? what Honda emblem!! it's the logo that's on the helmets of the NFL team Atlanta Falcons.... if you were watching the show and listen you would know, they were paying tribute to the Falcons and reaching the super bowl this 2017 year.... Smh
Delvin Salaam I know and I get that they were honoring the falcons but after that dance routine they did one last formation and it was a failed attempt of the Honda logo and it's sloppy af. You sir need to look at towards the end of the performance. They played the Hotboys song out of that formation.
+Maurice Jordan There was nothing wrong with that
Delvin Salaam ok bruh if you say so. That formation was sloppy and the lines were crooked.
Maurice Jordan the line on the left was sloppy but you do realize this is 300+ people trying to come together to make a picture right lol it's not always going to be exactly right
