Hi Manuel - thanks for your comment, it’s nice to hear from someone who was born there! Which neighbourhood did you grow up in? I’ll be there next week and will post a lot more content soon!
Great tips for our next trip to Cuba. As soon as we are allowed to leave Eastern Canadian Coast we are gone to Varadero. Would enjoy a side trip to Matanzas, have been through Matanzas several times. Really enjoy Cuba weather, beauty and people. Often call Varadero our second home. Thanks for video.
Thanks Ken - so glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully we can get there later this year. Let me know when you're going and I'd be happy to share whatever info you need.😀
Hi.....my wife and grandaughter will be the Oct 4th 2022.... can you still ride the Hershey train, and I would also mention that seeing a Baseball game is a absolute blast we have been to 2 games
Yes baseball games are a ton of fun too! The Hershey Train does not run anywhere anymore. It fell into complete disrepair and I’m told a section of it can be viewed at a museum in Havana. When is the last time you were in Cuba? Will your family be staying at a resort or in a city?
@@localincuba9363 We were at Cayo Santa Maria Super bowl weekend 2020 this will be our 13th trip to the Island. This time we are staying at Memories Jibacoa
@@localincuba9363 Oh i know.......our Son and his wife were there in nov 2021 and this march 2022........ can you suggest any local restaraunts near the memories or any in Matanzas....... and thank youfor responding, its nice to chat with a fellow Canuck, Edm Alberta here
@@barrybull6253 Hi Barry - MTZ has many good restaurants - I recommend Amelia Del Mar Restaurante in La Playa neighbourhood and Le Fettuccini downtown, and any of the places along Calle Narváez serve consistently good food. I've always enjoyed Hotel Velasco also, and they serve breakfast lunch and dinner - the kitchen was closed for renovations in June/July but I believe they've re-opened by now.
I spent 10 days in Matanzas over Christmas and New years 2021. It was amazing and I saw many of the spots on your video. Do you live there. We stayed at Pope Hostel.
Wow that's amazing that you had 10 days there! So many people just pass through or stay only a couple of days. I don't live there, although that is the plan eventually (at least part-time) - I currently live in London, Ontario, Canada. I haven't heard of that hostel - I wonder if it's a new one. Do you know which neighbourhood it's in? What made you decide to stay in Matanzas? Thanks so much for your comment!
Hi Margarita - thanks for your comment! I can't remember but I'll find out soon enough, I'll be in Matanzas on Friday for a couple of weeks. Are you traveling there soon?
@@localincuba9363 I am! I've watched many sunsets from the Malecon in Havana, but have never yet seen a sunrise, so very much looking forward to seeing it rise and set in Matanzas! loved your City of Bridges video too; will try to scout all of them. Thanks!
@@64mta I'll try to remember to let you know, once I get there to see for myself. I know July is a good time to see it from Monserrate. If it's too far over at this time of year, you can always watch it from Calle Narvaez. Let me now how your trip goes once you're back. Enjoy!
Find a Bici-driver (bicycle taxi) and inquire about the cost for a one hour random ride through out the streets of the city/village/reparto. I've done this in Las Tunas, Havana and Santa Clara. In the latter they are a little harder to find. They go places you would not think of asking because they are ordinary people's streets with ordinary Cuban life occurring not some promoted location of the revolutionary history, etc.
Great suggestion! Bici-taxis are hard to find in Matanzas, but I recommend moto-taxis partly for the same reason. They're compact and can get to places (down alleyways and dirt paths etc) that cars aren't able to. I plan to do a separate video and include that, because it's my favourite mode of transportation. Thanks for your comment!
If you're referring to the economic situation and the pandemic, I understand. I'm in constant contact with friends in MTZ and I can't imagine what it's like to be living there now during this terrible time.
I could have added so many more things to this list! I'm curious to know what would be #1 on your list of travel rituals.💙
Thanks, Kelly. Awesome vid.
Thanks for watching Ed!
I was there in 2919. I was born in Matanzas, CUBA. It's beautiful!!

I loved this Kelly! Congratulations and good capture of the city!
Thanks so much Joha!
Thank you very much, I really like your videos of Matanzas. Summer sunsets are also beautiful from Playa del Bahía.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy them. You're right about the sunset - I'll add that to the list for the next video I post on the subject. 💯
