In Round 1, I mentioned my new setup. I noticed a few things during editing: there’s a shadow from the microphone cast on my face, and after Round 1, I accidentally left the room light on, which changed the coloring. Still tweaking things, but I hope the audio quality came through clearly!
25:18 - "They milled coiling oracle, I'm pretty sure this was errated to be an insect so they get another" If Grist hits an insect you repeat the whole process, including the mill. Oracle was the second card milled, the first was Wirewood Symbiote, which is an insect. MGTO represents all erratas accurately even if the irl cards don't, so if Oracle was an insect it would say so.
YOOOO this deck was how I got into legacy and it remains one of my favorite ways of playing MTG. Super awesome to see you on 7 card combo : P "we have 6 cards that win and mountain is not one of them" game 1 and "burn spell off the top wins oh hey bolt" game 2 is the burn experience to a tee, ggs!
Your setup and audio quality are fantastic. I do think your lighting has slightly improved as well. Your videos are definitely of the quality that I aspire to for my own content.
I think the audio sounds more clear. Sometimes the directionality pattern of a mic, means placing it overhead gets that clarity (where as placing it in front can catch extra noise, whether it's background noise, or just small echoes bouncing of walls). Hard to tell if this was just edited for brevity, but in Match 1 Game 2, with the Fireblast, I didn't see if you tapped the untapped Mountain before sacrificing it and the tapped one. If you didn't, and the blue card they pitched to FoW wasn't the Daze (I'm watching on my phone, and obviously not as invested in knowing all the info in a game as when you're playing it), they maybe had an out of "double Daze the Fireblast".
Boltwave beats The One Ring? Edit: if so, might be worth playing that spell out last rather than first (assuming you have several spells and they can get a ring down quickly)
I think that an 8 fetchland suite with 11 basics is really nice. I played a ton of this deck in premodern, and the fetchlands for thinning were not non zero. Obviously a different format, but still a wasteland format.
I wonder if playing Dragon's Rage Channeler (and Mishra's Bauble) as another aggro 1 drop (with card selection!) is worth it here in Legacy, since Burn in Modern have been using DRC for some time now
Null rod is cool, i’m personally partial to Harsh Mentor in the side. Gets those pesky Nomads en-Kor/ Nadu comboes. It also deals 2 damage on each fetch, and its fun forcing your opponent to bolt them self when they try and fetch around price of progress. but sideboards for LGS and MTGo are very different things
I wonder if we want flame rift as even more ways to play around leyline of sanctity. The two mana seems like a lot, and it probably depends on the metagame. Also I wonder if we want 1 or 2 equisite firecraft as a way to finish vs counterspell decks.
Re diverse manabase It comes down to deckbuilding. The list I ran at a local event last week had a set of searing blaze, and singletons of grim lavamancer and barbarian ring. I did have 7 fetches and 3 canopy lands to accommodate those cards, but it comes down to preference. Sincerely, Someone who will never give up fully foiled burn in any format.
@it does, and that has to be taken into account. Despite what certain bogans may say, burn is not a deck that can be built/played on autopilot. Not saying either rationale is right or wrong.
Run one cycle land. With fireblast you need the true mountains. I might put vexing devil in over fireblast though. Null rod is great tech but i would run surgical extractions over the macabre. That way you'll pull the rest of the combo pieces.
I don’t necessarily agree with these changes. Especially the surgical change with vexing bauble in the format and the premier graveyard deck also being a counterspell strategy.
@TheEPICStorm Except the graveyard decks dont run vexing bauble as much since they want their forces and dazes. In my area i see a lot stiflenaught so stifle has been doing heavy lifting. I play paper so my meta is probably a little off. Great vid, though!
i feel like a good meta call for this deck wouldve been razorkin needlehead in the main over eidolon. not much thought put into this opinion just would be cool to see another new card played
I know this video is 3 weeks old but i decided to try burn since it's so cheap. It nade me realize rift bolt SUCKS especially against vexxing bauble. I cut it down to two and might cut it completely. Losing to bauble cuz you have rift bolt and fireblast was a feel bad. Grim lavamancer was good for those mana flood games. It does require a few fetches though.
burn likes fetchlands to avoid flooding. if you play 3 fetchlands , you took 6 lands out of the deck. and that matters. maybe add 9 or more fetchlands and the deck will be more consistent

would Sokenzan Crucible of Defiance be good to replace a mountain?

Wasteland doesn't effect fetches, so I don't believe this argument tracks. The points I made about Stifle + effects like Opposition Agent do though.
I wonder if playing Dragon's Rage Channeler (and Mishra's Bauble) as another aggro 1 drop (with card selection!) is worth it here in Legacy, since Burn in Modern have been using DRC for some time now

I wonder if this deck would be better with galvanic blast, shrapnel blast, great furnace, and an artifact package.

The more mana you add to each spell, the worse the deck gets IMO. Flame Rift is a tough sell, what are you trying to cut?

Burn is just a 7 card combo. Love it.
I one time put lotus metal in place of 4 mountains inn ym burn deck for the lolz.
It was hilariously bad but sometimes it was like the best idea ever.
I think you just want stability in your Fireblast deck
Petal also exacerbates vexing bauble as a hose - fireblast and rift bolt can’t be alternate cast
