    You US citizens were so sorry when we had the great flood disaster in Germany last summer. My condolences go to you now. My condolences go out to all the victims who have lost relatives and their belongings. It's so horrible to see that, I'm sad. God bless you in America. Greetings from Germany.

    The tornado that went through Mayfield went a mile from my house in Fulton county it was classified as a strong F4. I work in Tennessee and the tornado that went through Bowling Green went through a town called Dresden. Which is about 2 miles from where I work. It had 170 mph winds there and was a strong F3. I was on the phone with my work partner who was home at the time. His son works in Mayfield and his work place got hit, he was telling me about it the same time the tornado hit his house. Was scary sounding as his wife was screaming and he was saying its ripping my house apart and the phone went dead. He ended up being all right but it totaled his house and neighborhood

      You might have been in the path of the storm but not the tornado itself so you may have gotten some of the other bands. Tornadoes this destructive tend to be between 1/2 a mile and 2 miles wide. You may not have been within that radius, but still within the area of the thunderstorm that produced the tornado.

      They can “bounce” over areas at times.
      Ive had it happen several times in Paducah Ky Florida, Alabama and ne Pennsylvania.
      As a kid in Paducah we had a large tree sucked out of the ground in backyard but candle was still lit in pumpkin on front porch.
      Tornados are very weird occurrences.

      @jeladsnikpoh1289 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aj402 that seems to be what happened, as my house, cars, motorhome were untouched. The back door of the house still open as I accidentally left it to go into cellar, but 200ft up the hill in back yard (forest) were tons of trees snapped like toothpicks and in a circular pattern. Likewise, no deaths or damage reported in Green County, but it tore up Taylor County immediately after (tiny counties in this state). Some would call it a miracle. I just moved here from Oregon, this is my first experience, ironically a record breaker in an unusual month. Always fascinated by 'naters since watching 'Twister' as a kid.

      These newsfolks might want to check-in with the experts in our area. The one that hit Mayfield then hit Dawson Springs, Earlington, Madisonville, and kept moving almost straight due NE..
      It was closer to an EF4/EF5 and over a mile wide at the base. What they need in Mayfield is to have folks dedicated to keeping track of storms and conditions. From Mayfield to Whitefalls, those of us in those counties hit knew what was coming since it started in Arkansas and got under shelter. Still lost some folks but nowhere nears as much as Mayfield. Plenty of property damaged and lives torn apart but they can be recovered and rebuilt. Lives cannot.
      We ain't got much in Madisonville and Hopkins County but what we can spare is heading to Mayfield and Dawson Springs. Schools out until 2022 for us so we got lots of involuntary volunteers, lol 😆...

      It hasn’t been confirmed yet and won’t be until NWS surveyors finish their inspection. The enhanced Fujita scale or EF scale rates tornadoes on both wind speed and damage caused. The largest, most violent tornado ever seen, the El Reno tornado, was rated an EF3 because it took place in a rural area so there wasn’t much destruction. The Moore, OK tornado took place in the same week and was smaller, but rated EF5 due to the destruction it caused in a populated area. Personally I think it looks like upper end of EF3 or lower end of EF4 but I’m no expert just someone with an interest in tornadoes.

    First.. so sorry to everyone effected. I have a serious question though... couldn't we do anything to avoid serious storms? I mean at the edge of every state couldn't they pump cold air into the atmosphere for say 8 hours before a storm? I live on the east cost and every time serious weather comes at us.. it hits the cold air from the ocean and falls apart. Even if the man made cold air only reduced the severity of the storm by like 30% ... wouldn't that be worth it?

      Would be impossible and probably would feed more to the supercell that caused the tornadoes (supercells are storms that often create tornadoes). If there was a rise of hot and moisture air, then cold air would simply create more strength for the tornado.

    I have a theory that the Carolina Bays were dug out by hyper tornadoes at the begining of every autumn. Every autumn the cold fronts would come off the mile thick ice sheet and the terrain would act like a sonic wind tunnel causing the wind to blow a lot faster and colder, when it hits the mountians it would compress it again and then it would hit hot tropical air creating tornadoes with such high speeds that they could dig out the bays. 5x to 10x the speed of these.
